Understanding how to utilize a flash or a polarizer for specific situations is how you achieve the best results. There’s a clear difference in color accuracy and definition when using flash, not always required though.

I completely agree. Though not needed there is a clear difference in my opinion

I shoot luxury or high end homes, many of them air bnbs. I guess you could say I went after the luxury market and worked on my skills to deliver high quality. I do agree with the part about using gear that works and that you can afford though. Don't go deep in the hole before you even start unless you have the work lined up to pull it off. BTW- if you're not using flash that could explain why you're having trouble cracking the luxury market.

Hey man! Awesome video, glad this came up on my recommended. Pretty much how I’m running my real estate photo business! Also, don’t think you added the outsource company but I saw you mention them - it’s BeePec. Can vouch for them since that’s who we use for our outsourcing as well!

For windows how about 3 brackets plus 1 flash, to get a better window exposure? Editor says they prefer one flash.

I liked the video, the problem is that in my country many of the houses for sale have very dark areas without windows and they are generally good areas so it is almost impossible not to buy a flash.

like everything is a balance. You need to get good, and you need to actively market. Also not knowing how to use flash just weakens a huge percentage of potential skill. if you bracket, you will need to be GREAT at editing. or outsource

Great video, Eli, and I learned a lot. I am a working commercial photographer with 35 years of experience, I'm looking to work more locally, and my chamber of commerce needs real estate photographers. The shooting learning curve should be nearly instantaneous. Here's my question: A considerable part of my business for the last decade has been post-processing product photography, so I have Photoshop totally dialed; would you still recommend outsourcing the processing? It would be a no-brainer for me. Thanks.

The question I have for you is would you make more money editing yourself or selling and shooting during the time the outsourcer is editing?

How you get rid of the color cast without flash ?
@aperturehd7335
@aperturehd7335 Жыл бұрын
When it comes to color casts I usually make a virtual copy in lightroom, Turn down the saturation of the colour being casted until it matches the wall colour on the virtual copy, then I open the original and the virtual copy as layers in photo shop, Put the virtual copy on the top and then hold alt and click vector mask, Then just use the brush tool to brush away the colour casts

Seriously question from us because we currently shoot luxury.... What happens right... what your shooting volume and the Realestate clients start getting PEDANTIC? What starts off on paper as " This is awesome all we have to do is shoot photos, use cubicasa and shoot house tour videos" turns into " oh we though you might go down and take photos and footage of the cafe to include in the house tour, We thought you might do a brand video for us, We where thinking you might be able to stage a swimming pool, Can you remove all these items, We want to interview the local business that just opened up can you make us a video, we need you to film this auction on the weekend.... We want you to come and shoot lifestyle photos of our agency down at the beach....... Eventually what starts off as a smooth work flow becomes this monster of different services/expectations How do you deal with all these other things that Realestate agents want us to do....? Do you just price it up? I'm so curious about a lot of this side of the industry.... What about the "race to the bottom" with saturation and everyone else using a lower price as incentive to win business instead of the selling point being the effectiveness of a higher quality campaign? Also Eli, Love your content. I always contemplate whether luxury or volume is the better business strategy

Well, flash is used to get accurate colors more than anything assisting dynamic range. And a huge portion of shooters in my market use flash. Saying professionals don't use flash and nobody should is just bad advice.
@grainpv

Additionally, knowing how to use flash in a room that is insanely back lit from a window or other light source is the difference between an ok photograph and an excellent photograph.

Totally agree.
@forumsnowsoldier
@forumsnowsoldier Жыл бұрын
@@ScottPrincePhotography All dependent on what market your aiming for - most agents in my area are looking for good photographs at a lower cost. These photos are NOT being critiqued like some of you may believe. It's simply overkill for a run of the mill RE shoot, end of story. Your price point should ALWAYS reflect the quality of work you are providing. HDR bracketed photography is more then enough in my opinion if edited correctly. If shooting for a interior designer/high end property then yes - a flash would be a great addition to your toolkit.
@ScottPrincePhotography
@ScottPrincePhotography Жыл бұрын
@@forumsnowsoldier I dont know man. Seems quicker to walk into a room, pop a flash off the ceiling or corner of a wall then it is to shoot 4-6 frames for HDR. I got out of RE photography years ago anyway due to all the lowball shoots that were taking place in my area. $25-50 to shoot int/ext. Not my game anymore but whatever works I suppose. Take care!
@forumsnowsoldier
@forumsnowsoldier Жыл бұрын
@@ScottPrincePhotography Doesn't take long to shoot a bracketed photo to be honest but to each their own. As RE photographers we are our own worst enemy when it comes to critiquing! All the best my man. Also - 25-50 dollars?!? I'd bail too.

I'd charge more than $1 per photo just to open the file for editing, . No way you're getting quality editing at $1/photo, probably just a Photoshop action on the batch at that price.
@itselijones
@itselijones Жыл бұрын
Not true haha. Its 3 brackets hand blended in photoshop. Just because you wouldn't do it doesn't mean others wouldn't. Most of our editing team is in Vietnam where cost of living is SIGNIFICANTLY lower.
@Simon-iq1yl
@Simon-iq1yl Жыл бұрын
@@itselijones We outsource to Vietnam as well (software) - but half the cost for decent work. Quality and professionalism rapidly deteriorate seeking out lower. But if your clients are happy, all good. We have found because digital is a global economy, countries like Vietnam know they can kill it at half price - so don't price just to support their cost of living.
