I don't currently get alot of outage issues with my service provider but it definitely happens from time to time. It's called "growing pains"; and right now it can be quite painful. Unless you have a specific reason to jump on the Matter bandwagon, my advice is to wait and let others work out the issues on the "bleeding edge". I think in a year or two from now, Matter (if it survives) will be a lot more mature and should work much better. Also, keep in mind that this was over three years in the making. Imagine what it would have been like if they had released Matter a year ago. Everyone was clamoring for it and developers were saying they still needed do a lot more testing to make sure they got it right. As we can see, there is still a LOT of work that needs to be done.

Being able to control products from many manufacturers from a single app is of some value, I suppose, but the real benefit of Matter is surely the ability to create rules that seemlessly link products from different manufacturers. For example, if one of my Wyze cameras detects motion, one of my LIFX bulbs will turn on. If Matter cannot deliver this, it will not be a success.

Have you verified your home network and all devices have been updated to be IPv6. Once I updated my network to have a IPv6 DHCP sever with static assignment of addresses, many of the stability issues I was having with the mss 115 and Home Assistant went away. I suspect the requirement for IPv6 is catching out many home automation network owners. Maybe do an audit of your IPv6 network capabilities.
@AutomateYourLife Жыл бұрын
So I did check the network was capable (and actually tried a different mesh system too), but one thing you said caught me. Why would all network devices have to be IPV6? That's not something I caught onto, and I wonder if I have a few older things hanging around
@petertgreen Жыл бұрын
@@AutomateYourLife I am not saying all devices need to be IPv6 but you would need IPv6 networks services running such as DHCPv6 and you might want static leases to have some stability. You would need to allow routing of IPv6 within your home network and between any VLANs if Matter devices, Home Assistant (or any controller) and client devices are on different subnets. It looks like IPv6 multicast is also required. Seems to be that all the IPv6 requirements are critical for Matter to work and I got that direction from Meross when I was troubleshooting the mss155. This is likely what will limite the adoption of Matter as most people have not configured IPv6 at home and many consumer devices do not have this enabled by default. It will be interesting to see how this stuff gets 'blocked' on people's home Internet routers as most ISP are not providing IPv6 services. Maybe check out this link to see how much this protocol depends on have a full IPv6 environment. developers.home.google.com/matter/primer/thread-and-ipv6

I don't want it all funneled through everyone's propriety system. I know in the back of my mind that it's using some kind of Samsung generic port to hand-off all the controlling to Meross. If Meross goes kaput, then anything Meross goes kaput. I'll pretend not to know all this and just be amazed how easy and reliable my garage door now works with Samsung Smartthings. As an aside, looking at the prices for all of the Meross switches, etc... I could have saved a ton of money just buying their Merosss products and using it with Smartthings, instead of all that pricey Z-wave stuff. Or even one better, just never went with Smarthings and their hub and used the Meross app to control it all. Sad, but it would have worked probably better over wi-fi with no hub, more reliable, and saved a lot of money. I'll take that back. Meross is all pure wi-fi. Thanks, Brian. I think many of us who have tried Matter have had similar experiences. Fo me, Matter is of little use for most devices. These days even if you use multiple smart home systems (Alexa, Homekit, HA, Google, SmartThings, Hubitat) just how hard is it to find an outlet, bulb, switch, motion sensor, etc. that will currently work with the systems you're using. It's not hard at all!!! They're available and generally inexpensive. So what are we really trying to accomplish? It's not about the cheap stuff, but really primarily about getting your expensive stuff working across platforms. These are primarily cameras, security systems, locks, and a handful of other products, like vacuum cleaners (not yet even supported by Matter.) Life would be so simple for users if Google made it possible to use their Google/Nest devices with Homekit, for example and if Amazon made their Ring systems available to all w/o Matter. Except that’s only the communication protocol, not the application layer. Matter is the application layer which uses the Thread and Wi-Fi communication protocols. With Zigbee you still need companies to taylor make support for Alexa, Google, etc, but with Matter (because it’s an application layer), that is not needed.
@sdamir Жыл бұрын
Zigbee is both network and application protocol.

What I find fascinating is the fact that in 2012 (ish) there was Stringify that made all of this matter & software totally useless and our homes were was better off and it was FREE! Then came comcast GGgrrrrr!!!

The fact that It can be reseted by a buton and Time makes every product a failure ... My smart eletrical contact is being reseted and cant be conected because the Alexa itselft Is to big so It pushes the buton ,ITS on the kitcthen so when a chair Is too close It even turns off itselft.

So what you're saying is that you have to associate matter with your app of choice and then use that to give everything else a docket saying "that's what we have installed" relying on cross compatible linking (and Apple Co operating with anyone 🥺😂😂😂) and beyond-skiddie coding... I think I know how Hubitat will do it, they have timeslicing/frequency slicing in some of their radios that means it'll work as well as it ever does... And quite honestly I'm not a fan. I just don't like what I'm hearing with matter because it's far too complicated and I'm betting you'll get all sorts of weird bugs - especially sensors - like different reactions based on the primary pairing app interacting with all the other associated apps.. Can see it ending in tears..

Aqara has made a video how to link their m2 hub to Google home. Google wifi pro do absolutely not find the aqara m2 hub. Aaaaaarrrgggg

That makes sense (sadly). Google's released some Matter updates on their Nest Displays and speakers thus far. Hang tight and it'll come.
@Bigglare Жыл бұрын
Matter professed no need for Manufacturers apps. Why even try? Starting from Apple Home, every matter device above, cept for the linkind bulbs worked perfect. Eve's initial firmware upgrade insanity aside. Ive been able to add the matter devices to apple, home assistant, smartthings, easily. Amazon and Google do not support IOS so I wont blame matter. Smartthings wont support Matter Bridges yet, so again, not Matter's fault.

I have also had great luck setting up a few Matter devices with HomeKit. Things went bad once I added them to Google Home. Once I added them to GH things stop working in both HomeKit and GH. Deleting the device from GH did not restore them to a working state in HomeKit. So the issue for me is adding Matter devices to multiple systems. The devices that I only added to HomeKit continue to work just fine. I could not get any Matter devices to work with Alexa.

@@jasonedwards6562 you apparently need to enter multi admin mode or something similar is what I've seen on a different video.
@jasonedwards6562 Жыл бұрын
@@spoils8179 I did. I put them in pairing mode and was able to add them to Google Home after adding them to HomeKit but that is where things started going bad. Once in GH nothing worked anymore not even in HomeKit where they were working fine before adding them to Google Home. Alexa would also see the devices but would fail to add them. I have since removed them all from HK and GH but have yet to try adding them back. When I have some time I will try adding them to Google Home first to see if the outcome is different. I figure with Matter being so new there are plenty of kinks to still work out.

Matter sucks because of "corporate greed!" as another youtuber would rightfully so well explain it. This youtuber was also one of the few who uses common sense not to be misled by the sales departments of smarthome industry about matter. Apparently a lot of expactations were induced by the anouncement of matter and a lot of youtubers were raving about matter. Those youtubers, -reviewers, experts and what not-, are merely parotting the sales departmens of the smarthome industry showing the lack of critical thinking. I'm inclined to believe that this is how the smarthome industry is framing the youtubers,. I find a lot of youtubers are made to look like idiots by the sales departments of the smarthome industry. Apart from Paul Hibbert who predicted this, you're now also showing the dampaning enthousiasm for matter and rightfully you are. When David Smith suggested to develope a worldwide standard for digital instruments to communicate with each other, midi became the world standard protocol for the whole world to use. Look what it brought to the pro's and the hobbyists and the consumers. Those were the days when entrpeneurs not only went for the short term financial profit, but the long term benefits for the whole world as well. But then again: For this to happen, people with vision are much needed, not corporate greed.

Paul definitely has and had his misgivings about it. I think it's still important and should get better, but we shall see
