Electrolytes are very expensive, yet we need to supplement them on our carnivore/keto lifestyles. Bulk ingredients are readily available at a fraction of the cost of the commercially available brands.
Here's what you need and where to get it. Follow the simple instructions in this video and you will never have to spend all that money on expensive electrolyte supplementation again.
IF YOU DEVIATE FROM THE PRODUCTS I USE, YOU WILL HAVE TO DO YOUR OWN CALCULATIONS ON WEIGHT OF EACH PRODUCT YOU USE PER BATCH!
IF YOU WANT TO USE MAGNESIUM GLYCINATE instead of MAGNESIUM CITRATE: order magnesium glycinate instead. Here is the Amazon link:
Magnesium Glycinate Powder
amzn.to/481m1oX
TOTAL WEIGHT OF GLYCINATE FOR 100 SERVING BATCH: USE 125 grams (instead of the 350 grams of magnesium citrate)
NET AMOUNT OF MAGNESIUM per daily serving (substituting magnesium glycinate) = 225 mg
WARNING! - IMPORTANT! - IF YOU USE ANY OTHER BRAND (OR CONCENTRATION) OF THE INGREDIENTS I USED, YOU WILL HAVE TO CALCULATE THE NET AMOUNT OF THE MINERALS IN ONE FINISHED SERVING BASED ON THE SERVING SIZE (BY WEIGHT), AND THE NET DELIVERED MINERAL AMOUNT (BY WEIGHT) PER SERVING AS LISTED ON THE PRODUCT'S NUTRITION LABEL.
Magnesium Citrate Powder
amzn.to/41B1vt7
Potassium Chloride Powder
amzn.to/41iXr08
Himalayan Pink Salt, Fine Grain
amzn.to/41i60bH
I use this flask to drink from as I showed in the Video. It is perfect for this.
BUZIO 40oz Water Bottle, Stainless Steel Insulated Water Flask

I agree, especially with the points on sweetener and/or flavouring; I think people relying on those are not severing their connection with the sweet carbs that have got most of us here in the first place.

I whipped up 2 batches yesterday, one for me and one to give to a friend who says he will give carnivore a try come New Year's (fingers crossed). I added 6g of the mixture to half liter of water. As Mitch said, the taste is almost imperceptible. It's certainly not salty at all. There's just a hint of something in the background. More noticeable than the taste is the Mg and/or the K doesn't dissolve like the salt does so there was a bit of a "powdery" texture, especially in only a half liter. Think the fines in the bottom of a cup of espresso, French press or Turkish coffee. It isn't unpleasant or off-putting, just not what you're expecting when drinking water. This morning I mixed it in 24 ounces of water and it was much better. Tomorrow I'm going to start mixing it into a liter of water. I suspect the "texture" will mostly be gone. I give this episode of Mitch in the Kitch, Mad Scientist Edition, two thumbs up. 👍👍

When I first went HFLC, I did suffer fairly frequent leg cramps, and I’d say these intensified a bit when transitioning to carnivore (my journey has been keto-ketovore-carnivore…mostly). I did try various forms of supplements to get some relief, including the big brand often bandied about by the usual suspects, and these helped a bit, but are very expensive. Now however, I simply ensure my meats are well seasoned (salt to taste), and do so by using a good quality salt (I use Redmonds [hard to find here in Oz], and also a large container of Pink Himalayan from Costco), and for the most part, I rarely get cramps. I have noticed that on the rare occasion I eat something I shouldn’t like a choc bar or similar, I’ll get severe leg cramps that night…kind of reminding me how stupid I was for eating the carbs again.

Do you drink reverse osmosis filtered water or mineral water, I used to drink reverse osmosis and then I figured out it was pulling minerals out of my body when I switch to Pellegrino it helped when my leg cramps
@vonitaesse4307
@vonitaesse4307 7 ай бұрын
Because of the “Potassium-Sodium Pump”, a process in the body which protects the body from imbalances of these two minerals in the body, the body will dump potassium when the sodium (salt) is too elevated. I lowered my salt intake and my leg cramps went away.
@JKPilot
@JKPilot 7 ай бұрын
@@vonitaesse4307 that’s interesting….my wife and I generally eat the same, with the main difference being I salt my food significantly more than she does, but we both still get the odd cramp here and there. But as my comment implies, I don’t really have an issue when I avoid what I should be avoiding😉

Thanks so much Mitch!! I'm a lifetime carnivore ..almost 83 .. and have never needed to add anything but salt to my meat ..and never had leg cramps . But my beloved husband of 6 years had them frequently until he finally went complete carnivore 18 months ago. He still suffers from them occasionally and this will be awesome.. I am wondering if I put some of this mixture in a salt shaker and he can use it on his eggs and meat? We run 2 ranches .. one in Alberta Canada and one in Colombia South America . We work hard every day . As everyone knows, there's not alot of real heat even working hard in the sun in Alberta . But in Colombia , the sweat runs off us like water in a shower !! I've seen it drip..drip off the ends of my braids ..and that's just from my head!! I eat alot more salt at the ranch in Colombia!! THANKS AGAIN LADDIE!! AMAZON ORDER IS ON ITS WAY!! ❤❤😂

Good video. After I mix the batch of electrolytes, I put approx 1.6g of the mix into 50 or so tiny paper cups (I have a better scale). I use exclusively Citrates and Bicarbonates, they provide the additional benefit of alkalizing your urine. If you eat a meat based diet you will 100% have very acidic urine, acidic urine results in impaired excretion of uric acid and some other waste products. However when consuming citrates and bicarbonates one has to be careful not to consume too much right before a meal or it will impede digestion, which is probably why the popular brands use mostly Chlorides.

Good afternoon from Copperhill Tn. I liked this video. The more I watch carnivore videos, they have a product to sell. Our generous keto/carnivore doctors/educated influencers don’t spend HOURS of their life every day that could be spent earning money, relaxing, loving family and friends to help people for NOTHING. Those ads let these generous, educated, caring people give you and me FREE health and medical information that transforms our lives. Also, MANY people would rather buy premixed electrolytes or convenience keto/carnivore products because they live very busy lives. It is a win for everyone to have ads. Sort of like the old-fashioned idea of "switchel" (which I still make) that combined things like ginger, molasses, salt, vinegar, etc., with water to make an electrolyte rehydration drink. Nowadays people buy Gatorade as a "sports drink" to do the same job, which it doesn't do nearly as well and costs a king's ransom in comparison. The medical community calls it "oral rehydration salts." The WHO has its own recipe as do many other medical sites. In any event, you can make your own so cheap, as you easily showed us Mitch, and save yourself a bundle! 🧡

I agree. I make up a mixture of one teaspoon Epsom Salt (for the Mg), and a half-teaspon of Borax (for the Boron) in a tall glass of water, taken once a week or so. It's fairly bitter, which can be fixed to some degree by adding some Lemon juice (!). This obviously contains no K. So I will try Mitch's mix, and just add a little Borax to it.

QUESTION: I was told, and have since read, magnesium citrate can cause digestive upset and diarrhea. Was wondering why you chose it over magnesium glycinate. Seems like it would be a safer choice. Also - would the amount be the same if made with glycinate instead of citrate?

My current mix is a couple shakes of Nu-Salt (potassium chloride) and a couple shakes of whatever salt is at hand (Redmond, Himalayan, kosher, sea salt or even iodized table salt if that's the only thing available) in a small amount of water. I down it like a double shot of cheap whiskey and immediately follow with a plain water chaser so I don't taste the saltiness. I do this several times a day. I recently started taking a magnesium pill (250mg) once a day because of cramps. It seems to have helped some but that could be coincidence or just in my head.

The magnesium does help with cramps. You can take 800 mg with no worries, but I take 400. Glad you liked the video!

That's great. You're not the first person who wasn't sure. I've had other people mix all the wrong quantities, and I had to actually calculate what they needed of each ingredient to add to make it right, sometimes resulting in a mix of about 500 doses.

Hi Mitch! This is a great video. I am looking at a one serving pack of LMNT right now. It is 1000 mg sodium, 200 mg potassium, 60 mg magnesium. Compared to your recipe this is sadly lacking. I find that the sodium level is so high that he causes me to retain water as a result I am unable to use it. I think I will give you recipe a try. Thank you.

Hi there. I also make my own electrolytes based on the LMNT ratios. However, I do not add the magnesium or I run to the bathroom ALL day. I just take it at bedtime to help with sleep and it doesn't upset my "plumbing".

@Mitch - You said the 100 servings mix was worth $50 - $75 of a store bought one. In fact it's a much better bargain than that, I'd say! The LMNT is $45 for a box of 30 servings. That means by comparison that 100 servings would be $148.50.

Wow that’s the same brand I use!..but I take a bag of mag citrate and a bag of mag glycinate and 50/50 those into a jar then add the right amount potassium citrate. I combine those two mags together because you get the best of both worlds, it solved my cramping problem that I had for years. Bulk supplements has high quality stuff. Thanks for your videos!

We have the "Escali Primo Digital Food Scale Multi-Functional Kitchen Scale and Baking Scale for Precise Weight Measuring and Portion Control, 8.5 x 6 x 1.5 inches, White " that we got from Amazon back in 2020 and it's good down to 1g, so that would simplify things. It'll go up to 11 lbs, and the batteries seem to last a year or more in most cases. It's only $1 more than what we paid for it back then, so that's good. I'm sure 1g won't matter that much in most cases, but our previous scale had the 5 gram granularity to it, and it drove me crazy.

I'm a 77 yo retired RN. I don't know where u got the safe proportions to use, but your method looked very accurate and really is a great advantage over the bought mixed products. I take prescription potassium chloride due to taking blood pressure medication, so I would have to consult with MD before using my own mix. I salt liberally and take a magnesium complex mainly to help me sleep better. So, I'm already getting these 3 electrolytes and have no labs or weird symptoms indicating I should adjust them. 😊

i made my own when transitioning (and experiencing cramps), and i still add magnesium, and pottasium while I've got some to use up, but other than that i now just occasionally have seaweed, which whilst not strictly carnivore would had ancestrally been an important source of electrolytes

I do the same Mitch, pre mix 100 doses. I put the daily dose into a ltr bottle of filtered water + 1.5 tbsp of ACV + half tsp baking soda for a gentle fizz & a dash of Xylitol, sipped through the day, so no chance of too much potassium. Mine has magnesium glycinate but mag citrate is just as good. Cheap as chips. Enjoy 🥂

FYI I went to mix a single serving (using tsp) and noticed the serving size on the Magnesium Citrate says: 1 1/3 tsp and on Amazon the label says 1/2 tsp which is actually the correct amount. I notified Bulk Supplement via their website. This also confirms that your serving size should be just over a tsp like you said! Nice work Mitch! LOL

Manganese is what got me to splurge on Dr. Sten Ekberg's electrolytes, the best I've tried but pricey. I bought powders of choline, MSM powder (methylsulfonylmethane), DMG (dimehylglycine), TMG (betaine anydrous Amino acid derivative). Same as you, to use my long ago chemistry classes to make my own daily liquid supplements.

I like what you did today, was waiting for this episode. Have me thinking a 3d printer might be good to further make something like this simple, assuming there is a food grade plastic available, could 3d print a spoon to get exactly the gram amount you want, maybe make the spoon half a sphere to make the math relatively simple to know what diameter to use to get what you want. 500 mg of potassium seems a little light to me, curious where you are getting the other 2000 mg Mitch.

Just mixed up my batch. I chose Bulk Supplements Magnesium Gluconate (don’t need poop help), Microingredients Potassium Chloride and Redmonds Rock Crushed Horse Salt. I used an empty Calm container to shake it all together. The long handled scoop that comes with the container works out about right for one dose. I want to mention that you may need to shake the container each time before you take a spoon of dry electrolytes to add into the water. The question is if the size of ground particles (of Potassium chloride, Magnesium citrate/malate and Salt) are the same. If not, then bigger particles can go to the bottom of container due to bigger mass. I encountered this problem in Erythritol with stevia mix. Stevia (in granules) ended up in the bottom with powdered erythritol at the top. So mix/shake blend before taking some... After learning price of ELMT electrolyte (30 pieces costing 30-45$) , each piece/package contains 1000mg salt, 200mg potassium (of potassium chloride) and 60mg magnesium (of magnesium malate), Those are pure weight of K, Mg, NaCl I guess. Whereas overall weight is much bigger due to chloride, malate/citrate endings in formula.. I separately bought above minerals (KCl and Mg Citrate) and mixed them on my own to get daily dose of each mineral. Saved up to 10times..
