Literally so sad to me. I had the feeling from this summary (not read the series) that if they just asked him for the book and explained that it was part of a plot to save the world from the war, he'd be like "fuck yeah Queen, here you go. And have a token of my friendship for added bonus" Why can't friends just be honest with each other?

I also agree that they were stupid in trusting and being honest with the queens but they literally lied to Tarquin who they said they wanted to as an ally. It’s one of those things that doesn’t make sense no matter how Rhys explains it and since it’s written from Feyre’s pov of course she is going to biased and be like yea Rhys had a point and he was right. This is when it would have helped to have chapters from other character POVs, like Rhys or Tarquin or Amren.

ACOTAR is one of those series that you can't think too deeply about or it all falls apart. Little details that don't match up, plot holes abound, and a whole bunch of tropes that aren't used in any new or inventive ways. But if you just sit back and take it all at face value, it's genuinely one of the most fun reads I've had. The characters are all likeable in one way or another, even if it's just because they're fun to make fun of, and for all the weird metaphors and unnecessary steam, their interactions are generally enjoyable. They're all a bunch of dorks, really - personally I like imagining the Inner Circle as a sitcom. tl;dr, ACOTAR is genuinely really fun if you just don't take it seriously
@someonefromearth5231 Жыл бұрын

Kind of, but I think that's part of the point. Even in the first book, he never really had much control over himself and his emotions (re. Calanmai festival incident), lied about way more than he needed to, and pretty much just gave up when Amarantha came back into the situation. Sure, he was sweet at times, but realistically, he had the balls to yell at her/get on her case for things that there was no way she could have known about (the mimic thingy that pretended to be her dad), and he's always kind of had a penchant for destroying stuff and taking Lucien for granted. They were in love, but rather than him choosing to listen and take control of dealing with his PTSD in a reasonable, mature manner, he chose to explode his surroundings at least twice and hurt his S.O. He was never a super mature character, he just had all the hard choices pretty much made for him so that he couldn't afford to step out of line to the point where it would have jeopardized everything. I just think it's not as immediately noticeable in the first book because he acts like a typical romance novel caveman love interest, which comes off as hot, but realistically has a shitload of red flags if you actually examine the behavior. I think part of the point is looking at how he deals with emotions (again, historically, he's never been good at it) and comparing it to how Rhysand does (surrounding himself with friends, but making absolutely sure that his emotions don't cause him to have a blast radius).

@TheJettaBetta Жыл бұрын
No. And this is explained in the books. Amaranths kept a piece of Jurian’s soul tied to his body parts. If you remember, her ring with his eye would move around and look at things. He was still “alive” in his eye. Whereas Rhys’ mom and sister did not have a piece of their soul kept alive in their wings. And, regardless, Tamlin says in ACOWAR that he burned their wings. And Rhys would have needed the Cauldron to bring them back IF somehow their soul was still alive in the wings. And when they were killed the cauldron was still unlocated.

It’s always bugged me that Mor’s dad is so blatantly disrespectful to Rhysand. Like, the dude can actually melt people’s brains and doofus just straight up sasses him to his face. There’s really no logical reason for that whole scene to even exist beyond horndog SJM wanting her babies to have a moment.

Honestly, I’m realizing that Sarah J Maas loves having a character have a whole plan that no one knows until it all comes together, and while it makes for good story beats, boy do I always feel bad for the characters who are left in the dark until the reveal. Like…you made me think I was going to die?? Only for your current Deus Ex Machina to come flying in to save us???? What the fudge???? Haha Edit: Oh my gosh, and shocking secret weddings are also a trend??? What the fudge…actually you know what, that’s about right for Sarah J. Maas

What was the alternative? Kill her humanely? That's a quick way to get Rhys killed. And if Rhys dies, Velaris gets exposed, and they're all captured and tortured. Then Feyre comes and dies. Then Hybern takes over Prythian and the Continent, enslaving and torturing humans. When you're dealing with twisted evil like Amarantha and Hybern, there is no good outcome, just bad and worse.

@@savvysavannahell I consider him as an asshole. I understand that he has “trauma” or whatever he’s got going on but that doesn’t excuse the fact that he wouldn’t let Freye DO anything. He was a controlling piece of sh*t. If it was me I would never let that type of man in my life. I would never have sympathy for someone who treats a woman like this. Common sense. ❤
@savvysavannah Жыл бұрын
@@ginnyluv4601 Tamlin only became controlling after UTM. In ACOTAR, yes, he pressures Feyre to come to Prythian, but only because he was literally physically (magically) unable to tell her the truth. And yes, he pressures her to eat but only because she was willing to starve herself to death because she was under a false understanding of fae culture (eating fae food will let them control you). After Feyre realized she wasn't in danger, she had complete autonomy. Tamlin didn't even lock her up for her own good on Calanmai, despite telling her she'd be in danger if she left her room. He's controlling in ACOMAF as a reaction to his experience UTM, not because that's who he really is. We forget (because we're always shown the secret, unmasked side of Rhys) that Rhysand is Prythian's Voldemort. Everyone in the Night Court is either a Death Eater or under the Imperious Curse to act like a Death Eater. Rhysand is known for inflicting a Cruciatus Curse on anyone who looks at him the wrong way. It's entirely understandable for Tamlin to do whatever it takes to save her from that.

@@savvysavannahWell how come Tamlin and Lucien talk about her behind her back? She has no say in anything at all. It’s always like Tamlin is always in control. Freye is a grown ass woman who can take care of herself. I don’t like Tamlin, he should’ve never locked her in that house, he should’ve let her have a say when it has to do WITH her! The first book really just feels like an overly long prologue to introduce the actual main couple. I understand why Feyre left Tamlin, and i think she was right to do so, but if she's just gonna end up with Rhys anyways, why even bother going through 500 whole pages of Feyre and Tamlin pining and flirting and the whole "Burn my body and i'll still love you" spiel?? What was the point of making us be invested in their relationship in the first place??

Disclaimer: I’m not a diehard SJM fan but I do admit to loving this series so far up until this point. However, I don’t really understand your logic. I feel like, by your logic, what’s the point of reading any book? I really like how SJM built it up to be this perfect love story just for it all to unravel in the second book. I think it adds more motive and backstory to the characters and everything ties together nicely. In addition, I feel like it replicates real life in that we could spend so much of our lives pining over something/somebody just to later find out it’s not what we want or it’s not what we thought it was. Idk I personally really like how ACOTAR created a solid back story for ACOMAF while still being entertaining and interesting. I think it shows a lot of character development in Feyre to go from being blindly in love with the first “person” who cares for her just to realize that’s not what she actually needs.
@galaxychar Жыл бұрын
I don’t know SJM or her intentions but it’s possible she never meant for it to go this route when she was originally writing. From these recaps it comes across like she writes to one up the previous section with new declarations, reveals, etc and gets a bit carried away as she does so. But like I said I haven’t read them so this is just my take!
@silenceinspace. Жыл бұрын
I'm not an SJM fan and haven't read these books, so obviously take this with a grain of salt, but I think it's actually a pretty deep message about how trauma can ruin something that otherwise was good, especially when the trauma was mutual. Sometimes people can't heal together. It's the same reason that experiencing a tragedy together can break up a marriage. Maybe it's just the empathetic way, Cari talks about the books, but I had heard about this plot before and thought that it seemed true to life.
@pinksenshi9690 Жыл бұрын
I actually love that she writes a more realistic story. We don't all end up with our first crush, she handles the depiction of trauma and depression really well and I love how we get to see Rhys help Feyre learn to live again. It is refreshing to read. The first book isn't a waste. It is part of Feyre's story, but it is only the start of her character arc
