Spot on financial advice, good for those considering a boat purchase. When people use the kind of clear-eyed budgeting you use for required future expenses lots of surprises are avoided. This kind of literacy should def be taught in school, thanks!

Thanks for a great video Capt.Elizabeth. You always do a quality presentation, best on the Tube for boat owners, IMHO. I was glad you went with the "Prop Speed" coating, I'm curious to see how long it will last and if you need to reapply it the next time you haul out. Thank you for the breakdown of the costs too .. that could be a nightmare for some folks if they are not sure of what they are getting into. These last three videos of the haul out have been so helpful .. again fantastic work. Please give Martha and Mr.Sully a scratch behind the ear for me, they are so cute! .. Hope to see you if you come down the coast ... Take care and Fair Winds.

Thanks for giving an honest and realistic cost assessment of boat ownership. I have owned everything from a small 8’ dingy I built with my father when I was 12 to a 23’ cruiser I kept in the water in Long Beach, CA. Boat ownership is expensive. Ownership of anything is expensive and getting higher. My backyard beekeeping hobby is expensive and increasing. I’ll be making a cost roundup video similar to yours for what it cost in dollars when I had to destroy my beekeeping equipment due to a wax moth infestation. Sadly, there seems to be a fear of honesty or fear of judgement amongst the KZbin Creator Community to disclose the cost in both dollars and time for the projects shown in the videos. I have stopped following many channels because of this very reason. Thanks again for your honesty and sincerity. It helps others who may be just starting out or considering the boating/boat owning life style to get a sense of the costs involved in the increasingly costly recreational or live aboard lifestyle.

Budget 10% of the replacement value of your boat. An older boat will be less expensive to purchase, but there will be more large expenses, engines & generators may need to be replaced, electronics updated & on and on. An older boat that is a 'good deal' may be the most expensive one.

Extremely informative! Thank you for the detailed breakdown. As a private pilot, I budget similarly for the annual inspections and TBO items that will eventually require major overhauls. What I found interesting is how similar the costs are, despite owning a small, but late model Cessna 182RG. Kudos to you both for your enlightening and entertaining videos!

MV Freedom is providing a real service to to those of us who want to go to sea. My "Offline" cost us every two years over the 8 years we had her in line with your costs. We had to find a hotel and I did some small tasks not anything as big as you guys did. We lived aboard for 18 months and loved every minute. The Bahamas was our hang out and cruising ground plus up and down the East Coast of Florida. You are a very good story teller and your editing makes it even better. Good luck to you both and continue the adventure.

Good One!! Enjoyed Cost/Benefit analysis. Because of my fishing addiction I do a highly technical analysis of our cost/pound of fish captured for consumption…. Its somewhere between $3 and $5 thousand a pound that goes in the freezer… eating our catch makes us very happy but…. Clearly an addiction…. 😵‍💫

Seaview has always been great to work with, and yeah, Shawn IS a machine. Good job to both of you for knocking out some hard work. Btw - I bet the yard gets their paint at wholesale and sells it retail - jus say'n - but the rest of their fees seem super reasonable. Congrats on getting re-splashed. Grey boot stripe? Really? That is so 2021.

That was less than I would have guessed. The yard sounds like a very fair place. I have a couple yards on the east coast I use and when it's that time I usually work my travel plans around one of them. It's always nice to have somewhere your familiar with and have some trust in. I've seen some yards that will really stick it to you once they have you on the hard.

I'm vague on why so many people offer creepy advice on your makeup and hair and whatever. I'll just tell you that you have great legs and a nice smile and call it good. You can grab a scraper and break a nail once in a while, it will add to your charm to get a little grime on you once in a while. When Shawn is doing something like the seals on the stabilizers, maybe a bit more of the actual work and sealing up so people can see how it is going. Maybe a report on the prop coating next time he is diving to check hull growth? I'm wondering if it will it will wear off on the leading edges. Thank you for including the costs of things. Like many people I day dream of a live aboard sized boat and wonder how much money and time are involved in maintaining the boat. The green stripe had to go along with the creepy green interior ultra leather. Good call on both.

Another great video. We live full time on our 44 DeFever and certainly know the ‘costs’ of this life style. Sold the house and etc, etc, etc…. Question! You’ve had Sully and now have Martha. They look like the same breed??!! We know you adopted Martha but don’t remember the back story. Small and compact and they seem to be very quiet. Are they? Great lap dogs! Our little girl passed last year and now we’re getting antsy for another dog. But we’re not up for a ‘barker’! Or at least relatively quiet. So? What’s the scoop?? Thanks for any thoughts.

That's actually quite cheap for a haulout for that size of boat. I was quoted this spring $1500 Canadian to sand and paint my 17.5' Double Eagle, needless to say we did it ourselves. I enjoying painting, but hate the prep work. On a 40' boat I ran with twin shafts. We still had a can of TBT, that we used for the shafts and props to keep marine growth off. You guys should be proud of yourselves for how clean she looked coming out of the water.
