Please keep your subscribers up to date as the vinyl stripe ages. I am very curious about colorfastness, resistance to corrosion, ability to clean it, resistance to scratches, etc, etc.

Right? 🤣👍😋 I have lived here in The Great NorthWET since April 1960. I was six weeks old, so I can say that... lol. Especially these past few days. Woke up this morning, and there's a tiny hint of Fall in the air at 6 a.m. today. Yum.

Budget 10% of the replacement value of your boat. An older boat will be less expensive to purchase, but there will be more large expenses, engines & generators may need to be replaced, electronics updated & on and on. An older boat that is a 'good deal' may be the most expensive one.

Thanks for a great video Capt.Elizabeth. You always do a quality presentation, best on the Tube for boat owners, IMHO. I was glad you went with the "Prop Speed" coating, I'm curious to see how long it will last and if you need to reapply it the next time you haul out. Thank you for the breakdown of the costs too .. that could be a nightmare for some folks if they are not sure of what they are getting into. These last three videos of the haul out have been so helpful .. again fantastic work. Please give Martha and Mr.Sully a scratch behind the ear for me, they are so cute! .. Hope to see you if you come down the coast ... Take care and Fair Winds.

Wonderful presentation - frankly I was surprised at the very reasonable fees from the marina. You omitted the costs of the interior work though which was of interest to me. Love the gray stripes. Glad all went well and you are back off the hard.

Good One!! Enjoyed Cost/Benefit analysis. Because of my fishing addiction I do a highly technical analysis of our cost/pound of fish captured for consumption…. Its somewhere between $3 and $5 thousand a pound that goes in the freezer… eating our catch makes us very happy but…. Clearly an addiction…. 😵‍💫

Extremely informative! Thank you for the detailed breakdown. As a private pilot, I budget similarly for the annual inspections and TBO items that will eventually require major overhauls. What I found interesting is how similar the costs are, despite owning a small, but late model Cessna 182RG. Kudos to you both for your enlightening and entertaining videos!

Seaview has always been great to work with, and yeah, Shawn IS a machine. Good job to both of you for knocking out some hard work. Btw - I bet the yard gets their paint at wholesale and sells it retail - jus say'n - but the rest of their fees seem super reasonable. Congrats on getting re-splashed. Grey boot stripe? Really? That is so 2021.

Givin your climate there and it’s your house , year around living on the water is doable! Not having a house or vehicles is also a plus but you missed the cost of the vessel ( good deal or not ) bringing that back in line ~ cost of a house is around $450,000 + taxes and upkeep so you are saving money !

Damn, that doesn’t seem that bad! I agree that you got a great deal on the bottom paint. I switched brands of bottom paint on my Hunter sailboat to BlackWidow (I sail on a lake) and I don’t think I’ll ever do that again. Way more labor than I thought.

When you are having the bottom of the boat painted do they eventually move the stands and blocks to paint the areas they are blocking or do you just paint that area next time with the stands and blocks in a differ7location?
@athommen1
@athommen1 2 жыл бұрын
In Europe we do arrange things during the last lift--up so we can add the necessary paint on the hull to those areas. It's not a good idea to leave a hull without that special needed antifouling, even on small spots.

Does the yard charge by flat rate or clock rate? For instance, the yard charges a flat rate of 4 hours for replacing one stabilizer shaft seal. You are charged $520 if it takes the worker 3 hours or if it takes 5.5 hours. It is a common practice in the automotive industry and was wondering if the same were true in the marine maintenance world.

Thank you for allowing me to live out the final days and hours of my miserable life with your beautiful family aboard your vessel Freedom!. I live in SE Virginia and my home port is the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the shadows of the Wright Memorial. I leave you with the following poem penned by a good friend and fellow Sailor and Mariner, a ship builder from Newport News, Virginia, Dick Poythress Fair winds and following seas in all of your journeys! FRIENDSHIP Anyone can build a ship As strong and tough as steel It's easy to accomplish No secrets to conceal. Understanding is the blueprint And all you need for tools Is a bit of generosity And the Golden rule Lay the keel with kindness The frames may be good deeds. The plates must be welded on By tending other's needs There are many kinds of ships With timbers strong and tall But the vessel known as Friendship Is the greatest ship of all! Dick Poythress (unpublished)

You would have to do your research because used boats could have hidden things that would have to be fixed and don't know if the seller knows about the hidden things or not it's a risk going used and if you don't know what you're looking for when inspecting a used boat you should have someone that knows.. and always make a check list when you talk to someone that knows a lot about boats for things to ask about and check when looking at a used boat.... I hope this helps
