I wish car reviewers would stop using space as a negative just because a different car in the segment offers a slight bit more, and sometimes only more on paper but not actually more useable in practice. Just give me the figures and I'll decide if it works for my needs. Not everyone is cramming their cars to the brink and looking for every cubic inch of space. This is why every car in their segment keeps getting larger and larger. Mazda built the car to their vision and their segment of customers. And like someone mentioned in the comments, most buyers of these are not squeezing 5 people in the car.

My only real compliant is that the dark brown leather is too dark. Needs to be a lighter brown or saddle color to be really rich looking. Also I wish Mazda had a really bright blue color available like my 2007 Bahama Blue Mica 2007 Mazda 6 5-door I traded in the this car. My mileage is 23-24 mpg in the city and 28-30 mpg on the interstate on regular gas. The turbo power is great to have on the interstate. I find the cargo space is enough for me and I like the 40/20/40 split rear seat. Mazda really deserves higher sales. This car competes with SUV's $10-15,000 more and is very reliable. Size is not the problem. In my book it being smaller than the competition is an advantage. What needs improving is the ergonomics of the center console. Tall cups block the dials and no usb in the forward cubby under the dash. The GT trim we test drove did not have lumbar support. The CX-30 is better. Having more trim selection allows the customer to get what they need if they are on a budget. Another concern is the cylinder deactivation with long term wear. It’s a great car, just needs updating. Please do not make it bigger. Get a CX-9 if you want bigger.

The CX-5 is wonderful with one big exception for big backside drivers. The front driver seat has firm side bolsters on the seat bottom. They can pinch in on people with bigger backside and thighs. I was in serious discomfort after a 30 minute drive of a grand touring reserve. You will not notice the pain in the first 10-15 minutes. So take an extended drive and pay extra attention. A quick google search will show other people have experienced similar discomfort with the front seat. If you are tiny, I would think you are OK and the vehicle is absolutely amazing. If you are bigger - watch out. Note is am 6’1 and 210 lbs. I was coming out of a 2016 GTI S for 5 years that never bothered me. So I am not a huge person and was accustomed to a sports seat - not sure why the CX-5 dug into my thighs.

I have the 2021 model and am 6'4" and 308 lbs although most of my weight is in the stomach area, and have no issue at all with the seating. I realise you are talking about the backside and I guess mine is about normal for my height. Just wanted to add that being heavier and a little bit taller didn't cause a problem for me. The centre console is slightly annoying but much better than the RAV-4 which was a big factor in me choosing the Mazda. You have to go with what is best for you no matter what other people might say is good or bad with a vehicle. KIA Sportage won car of the year here but I didn't like it after a test drive.
@MikeL-gm8ym Жыл бұрын
I tried to like the CX5 with 2 different test drives (2023 model) and really wanted to like this car and tried talking myself into it, but the front seat feels so cramped with that with that large center console not letting you to move your right leg at all if you like to sit a bit relaxed. The sales person said that they did that due to a design with how the transmission runs through the center of the car, they had to take up more room that normal. You have to drive with your knees very close together and on long trips, that type of posture will just get exhausting. I have a ridgeline now and that seat is just so comfortable compared to the super cramped feeling in the CX5. I also owned a 2014 honda CRV, 2006 Mazda3 and neither of those ever had this type of poor design problem like the CX5 and the CX50 have. If you are a small very thin person who likes to sit with their knees about 4 inches or less apart this is great car all around, but for folks that like a relaxed drive - don't buy until you do a good long test drive.. The CX50 seats are really uncomfortable but with the numerous complaints mazda sales person said they should be fixing that in upcoming modes. In this car review, you do see everyman driver's knee cramped up against the center console but he makes no mention of how cramped it feels. I am shocked because I test drove a ton of cars this week and the only one that has this issue was the Mazda CX5 so not sure how that wasn't mentioned on the review as he is about the same build as I am. Hope this helps, please do a long test drive before you purchase - cars so much money now so get something that will be comfortable long term.

My main problem. I have Siriusxm. I can't change channels using the steering wheel. Must use the selector knob and do 3 total turns and presses to change the channel. The steering wheel only let's me control volume and the button that should be used to change channel instead is for rewind and ffw, skip channels. It is annoying and very hard to get used to. Plus the knob or cup holders are in a bad spot. Can't really use the knob with a decent size bottle in the cup holder.

I can tell you as someone who has followed the CX5 subreddit for 2 years now, people absolutely care about cargo and back seat room. One of the common questions is spacing for car seats and if its a family friendly suv. I am one of those people as well with a car seat and toddler in the back. The Forester is ugly and wasn't even a consideration, but I just looked at their stats and the Forester has 0.2" LESS rear seat leg room than the CX5 anyways...

If you added cargo volume it wouldn't be a CX-5. It would be what once was a CX-5 with more cargo, but what gets compromised elsewhere? Found myself having to scramble to trade my AWD Santa Fe SEL with convenience and chose a new 2021 AWD CX-5 Touring. That's just the 6th out of 7 trim levels (Agreed, there are a lot of trim levels). Sure, the Santa Fe cargo bay was amazing, but my family and friends love this CX-5. I've just had it two months, but it's plush and the quality jumps out at you. Don't change a thing.

Current gen cx5 has age so well and looks much better than rav4 and CRV. Mazda is for people that prioritize style and performance over space. The space is limited because of the long hood which is what makes it stand out among the competition and also it’s safer in a frontal collision. Cx-5 performs very good in moose test and it’s the only crossover suv among 20 tested to pass the new side impact test with good score.

There are only 2 things that bother me about the CX-5... the blind spots (which all the other SUVs have), and the tiny fog lights. The fog lights only enhance the driving lights, and helps others see me better. Other than that, I love my new CX-5. It's the perfect size for me and my wife. And I know that my 3 teen granddaughters will seat just fine in the backseat. It's comfortable and fast w/ the turbo. I don't need great gas mileage since I'll only put about 2,000 miles on it in a year, which means, I'll spend about $350 annually on fuel.
@traolin58772 жыл бұрын
That’s what fog lights are meant to do… they aren’t for driver’s visibility, they are so others see you better. The idea is that fog doesn’t settle closer to the ground, hence why fog lights are down low. You’re supposed to turn them off once the fog has lifted

We leased a Grand Touring Reserve several months ago. We are a 2 adult family, so tight back seats don’t really matter to us. We have a sedan, and wanted something with a little cargo space. My husband researches these kinds of expenditures throughly, and found the CX-5 to have some of the best ratings in its class, for the $$$. The things I dislike are: 1) having to plug my phone into a cord for Car Play. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten to unplug it and take it with me when I exited the car. Having my shopping list on my phone, and finding out half way through the store that I left my phone in the car, is NOT a pretty site. Other cars have Bluetooth enabled, for this. 2) I like the wide view of the backup camera, but hate the static guide; I prefer to see the guide point to where the car will go when I turn the wheel. 3) I can’t believe that this is their almost top of the line model, and there are no front sensors for parking! Enough said, I’ve even seen some vehicles that have front cameras for parking. 4) The driver’s seat is hard. It wasn’t too noticeable when I test drove it, but on the way home (a 20+ minute ride) it became obvious. My husband bought this vehicle for me, so he didn’t drive it. He attempted to take it on a short trip and said his back was killing him a couple of hours up the road; he hurt so bad he turned around and came home. So much for this being a vehicle for us to take on vacation. I’m not sure if any of those things would have been “deal breakers” for us. But now that I’ve driven it for a number of months I’m glad we only have a 3 year commitment. Our plan was to purchase it at the end of the lease, but I don’t see that happening now.

If you don't need the rear leg room, then look into a BMW X1. Front PDC, wireless Apple play and better ride and seating even in the lower trims. I'm not sure if there is a big price difference between the top of the line CX5 and the X1 but I'm pretty confident the payments would be close. I currently have a X3 for family duties and it been rock solid reliable. I do my own maintenance so the cost is very low. If I bought it brand new, the first 3 years are included from the manufacturer. So be sure to factor in maintenance costs when buying any car.

I just finished paying off mine after 6 years, and I have a list of what bothers me with mine: hellishly shocky ride quality, bad brakes, infotainment system that sometimes chooses a random screen when I start the car, when I re-select the song list from a USB thumb drive it always takes me back to the top instead of showing me the currently playing song, A/C sometimes likes to switch from dash vents to floor vents while cutting off the compressor (a real necessity in the summer). I see that they moved the start button out from behind the steering wheel, but on my 2016 it made no sense to have the start button obscured. The one thing I do like above the competition is that this car has a real transmission & no CVT. As soon as I take care of a few things I'm trading mine in for something with a better ride and more reliable.

There's nothing "elegant" about the cheap plastic wheel arch trim that seems to be mandatory on every single SUV now. They WILL fade, crack, require replacement. They look like you bought "wheel flares!" at Pep Boys. Maybe in 2023, they can get rid of the tail lights that protrude a couple inches from the body and ruin the body lines, too.
