I happened to see this pop up in my feed and I have to watch so I never take her for granted. You'll be happy to know that this week commemorates 3 months that she's been with us. It's a wild ride. She is no longer the little toughie desperate street dog. She finally got full. Lol. Now she is a lady of leisure and sophistication. She eats carefully now and will walk away from food if she's had enough. And she now understands that ladies of refinement accept food in a gentle manner. 😊 On the flipside, she looooves playing in water and is a big tomboy digging in the dirt even though mommie says that's a nono. She still prefers outside to inside, even if it's 100 degrees. Lil miss is often sunning herself eating her favorite bone. I still don't have her exact weight. The vet's scale was broken!!! I am guessing she is about 60ish pounds. She's basically double the size she is here in this video. She continues to improve on her training every day (& mom too!). She is the sweetest, intelligent, has a big sense of humor and still loves her meals even if she leaves some for later. She is quirky as all get out in the best possible way. She is afraid of the water hose even though she dunks in the pool. She is even afraid of towels. Bathtime will be real soon. And you know she will make sure I get my fair share of wet. 😂 Mel what's your secret? You're the best❤ She still works the whine. She's a bigtime daddy's girl (jealous!) And she uses that whine and he just melts. She is my shadow too. Girl power! We just love her so darn much I can't stand it. I can never thank you all enough for taking exemplary care of my sweet girl. Massive group effort I know. We've been blessed by you all. ❤❤❤

P.S. The Dog Mom Guilt is real. She is never far from my mind. I worry over her all the time. I worry I'm not doing enough, or doing things right, how can I make sure she stays happy and healthy, and I worry that she won't gain all her confidence that she deserves to have. Once she feels 100% confident in her self and in us, there will be no stopping her. I can't wait to see that. But I worry. She gives me those sad puppy dog eyes. The girl knows how to work with what she's got! I cannot resist. Dad is no better. Lol. She's a clever, sneaky girl. ❤ does anyone else have mom dog guilt?

What a sweet Pupdate II, the sequel! :) I do dog walking and child care, and unless there's reason to suspect maltreatment, of course, I always say to parents that that guilt isn't necessarily a sign you're doing something wrong, it's probably a sign that you're the most invested person in their life, thus, well qualified. And Valerie…I just had high hopes that she would make it out and into a loving home but you are absolutely right in saying that she did live long enough to feel loved and cared for. After our black lab of 14 years passed, we cried every day for a week before running to the rescue and we found our Chow/German Shepherd mix in a similar state. It just hit our hearts and brought her home. She was found in the desert, emaciated, with 8 puppies. Her owner was found but turns out she was no longer wanted when she got pregnant. When we love an animal, it is for life. I truly respect what you do and how big your heart is. What you do is truly a big deal. Thankful to find this channel.

Sending love over the rainbow bridge for Valerie, and all the pups like her 💜 I believe that sometimes an animal fights to hold on just long enough to have a peaceful goodbye. They don’t want to die alone and starving and scared, but once they get to that safe and loving place and they know they can’t win the big fight, they peacefully let go. And as sad as it is, I think sometimes the greatest gift we can give to is tell a suffering animal *“It’s ok, we love you, you did so good. If you need to let go, it’s ok. You are safe, you are loved, and you can rest now.”*

I adopted a 3 yr old dog that came up from South Carolina. He was part of a police raid on a house. The owner went to jail. His THREE dogs went to a HUGE 4000 dogs a year shelter! What I learned is that they didn't know how to play with other dogs. I got one of them. He likes to run and play with me... chill around the house with people... but is quite selective with other dogs and otherwise doesn't even know how to play! He's friendly enough and indifferent. I LOVE him! My Richie! Macy/Lucy reminds me so much of my Richie!

Sounds like a wonderful guy. Definitely having to teach what everything is, every noise, what's behind every door (everytime it opens), how to play and have fun. That's half the joy is seeing her explore and react to various things and people.

I bring my dog tovdog park (about once aweek)Dogs pick their friends. They have personalities. My dog doesn't play with all dogs, but there are dogs she likes and plays with. We as people don't hang out/play with all people. Why should dpgs be any different?

Re guarding Arthur 's situation, I am elderly retired on ssa, so my kids support ! I had to move to another community 300 miles from where I was living, the only living space was an apartment that absolutely denied pets. We had a cat that had decided she was ours, I had to find her a new home within a week. I did and she accepted her new owner. That was almost 18 months ago. I still miss Muse, and want to move to a house that we can have a pet. Situations sometimes decide for you. BTW my name is Arthur.

@@artbrownsr Arthur, I hope you get your wish soon. I agree that when circumstances take the control away from you it is very frustrating. I hope you will get your house and a few adopted friends to keep you company. Cheers! Sherri

Those poor pups likely appreciate the softness and quiet.... Finally. Able to rest, to sleep, without worrying about anything else bothering them. So much love to all of them. All but one of our fur babies have been rescues. Twelve pups and kits in all to date. 🤗❤️

Have you ever had to be strong through suffering for so long that eventually a simple hug opens up a floodgate to the needed healing sobs? That’s what I thought of when Macy cried.

What a great ending for Macy's story. And I was really pulling for Valerie, she was so sweet and gentle. She ended her life with a full belly, warm/dry, and experiencing love. That's what a dog can only hope for in life. Nice to hear Arthur got to be reunited with his humans. He's a GOOD boy. God bless you, Rocky, Kelly, and Alexa.

Hi Rocky, I understand your concerns about Arthur the dog being returned to the shelter. Here are some hard truths: For many of us who are renting, it's extremely difficult to find landlords willing to accept dogs, especially those over 40 lbs. (some landlords have been burned). The situation is compounded by high non-refundable pet fees and limited housing availability. I almost faced this myself a few years ago. Thankfully, my coworkers and friends helped me find a rental that allowed me to keep my pets. It was tough, but I managed to keep my babies. Now, my dog is 7 years old, and I had my miss kitty for 12 years in total. Her name was actually Precious. Thank you so much for sharing your videos.

My tears fall as I write this. Valerie’s journey has me recalling a time that I rescued an older kitten. I heard this cries, pangs of helplessness, pleading for assistance in their most fearful moments. I found a cat (about 1 yr old) in such a fearful state, emaciated and near death. I brought the young feline to a vet, and gave them my credit card. This kitty rallied but never was able to over come the desperation of being alone.

It is soooo rewarding to go from literal count every rib skin and bones to having a little bit of a tum. You find a dog on your way home, what do you do? Grab your lost dog kit, bribe the pup into the car, and take 'er home to hang with the pack until we can go to our vet to check for a chip and reach out to the local shelters to let them know we have the pup. If the dog can hang with the House Queens, we will keep her until we find her family. Believe it or not, we don't really have strays, so the dog belongs to someody. She is such a beautiful girl! I wish nothing but pampering and spoiling from this day forward!

My Chi owns our home...and everything he sees. He believed me that first day when I said, "This is all yours, your home forever. Come in." A rescue so abused and fearful for his first 5 years even after 5 years of peace and being adored he still reacts to sudden loud or metallic noise. If only I knew everything he suffered. But he doesn't shake anymore or fall on his back in surrender, seeming to wait for punishment. When I tell him no I always pet him and tell him I love him. He gets it. He's the best behaved Dog I've ever known. I made him a sanctuary and he will go there many times to look out his window or nap. He's 10 years now and the best boy ever❤

There needs to be a worldwide public education program on how to care for pets, they are a responsibility, and to turn them over if you cannot feed the or feel you will hurt them. It’s so wrong to let them go through this. ❤

My pleasure to help... It is an honor to join everyone in this amazing journey to save these wonderful living little souls from such pain, I absolutely love dogs but I am highly allergic and no treatments have ever helped hold off my asthmatic reactions.... But I sure can love them from afar right now until medical science meets me halfway LOL. Please continue this wonderful labor of love and I will enjoy all the love that's given to these wonderful doggies everyday. Thanks so much for letting me be a part of your wonderful work.. xo
