I'm enjoying it. I recognize the faults and controversy behind it, and I even agree with some of it. But...its still Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy. In one package. These are still good games. Plus, maybe its just me, but it seems like the fact that this is the first re release of sunshine and galaxy from their native consoles on modern Nintendo hardware is COMPLETELY underplayed and not discussed enough (dont bring up galaxy on the Nvidia Shield, nobody counts galaxy on the Nvidia Shield). I dunno man. 2020 has been a shitty year and it just feels nice to be able to play these games again. Maybe that makes me sound desperate and "fanboyish" but im just trying to enjoy myself and im really enjoying going back to these games.

Ive NEVER owned a console these 3 could be played on, before now. I had random intermittent exposure to 64 growing up, but the 64.. doesnt have the best controller. Beat Galaxy once, on my dads wii, which isnt the same as doing it on something thats fully yours. Ive NEVER played Sunshine. Ive done the first level, or rather enough to save the game, on all 3 so far (got another game i need to finish, as well as my final run on 3 houses now that the dlcs are out) but ill be back to these afterwards. Ive never beaten 64, and Sunshine is gonna be.. basically a fresh experience (ignoring small tidbits from assorted youtube videos), and i thoroughly enjoyed galaxy back then (its 8-10 years ago minimum) so im very much looking forward to this experience. The little bit i did play, did make me feel giddy, so theres something.

If Nintendo was willing to spend the time and money, they could've made the menu into a virtual room with a TV, N64, GC and Wii. Selecting a game would highlight the respective console. Have a book case for artworks and even developer interviews. Soundtrack can be done with a CD player. And of course have a picture of Iwata.

Maybe they'll be slightly more likely to listen if they think I'm an idiot who thinks its actually broken... maybe they'll consider adding more options. I don't know what to do, or how to reach them... Luigi's Mansion, and now this, I'm at my wits end with Nintendo... (not to mention other smaller gripes like the lack of independent camera control options in BOTW 1st and 3rd person. Same for Odyssey.)

(Still would be hard to configure what you wanted to happen between 1st and 3rd person... but inverted x-axis in first person view is just stupid, I don't think anyone likes that, but you're stuck with it if you want to invert the 3rd person camera... or just switch back and forth whenever you go to first person... or motion control first person like I do with BOTW and Odyssey... lame. For the bit I played with 64, textures are pretty smudgy, at least with grass. Also been playing quite a bit of Sunshine and noticed frame drops at times and when rotating the camera, this double image of the character sometimes occurs.

Sunshine is a bit rough-around-the-edges, and it got that frustration factor.. But I can get some fun out of it, because it is so weird! And modern Mario games are a bit too polished and user friendly, and quite easy to complete imo. I can compare Sunshine to those StarWars prequel movies: weird & different.

I'm really disapointed with the lack of options. I mean there isn't even any options menu at all. Nintendo really looked lazy this time, charging 60 dollars for doing almost nothing. There isn't even any button mapping options, the most basic and simple to program thing, you can't even reverse the camera controls to what they were in the originals. Forget the game cube controller and their analog triggers, you are not even allowed to punch with B like in the originals. You can't switch which shoulder buttons you rather use for certain actions, making playing sunshine with the game cube controller actually impossible, since you can't crouch or ground pound. I can't believe the lack of simple considerations for people that buy their products, game cube controllers that they are still selling. Never stopping and thinking about "But what if someone wants to play this game cube game with one of our game cube controllers?" 60 dollars is way to much for three roms and some mp3s with almost no work put into them.

@@theodore4165 If there are updates adressing some of those things then I would be pretty happy with my purchase. But in general no, I don't think Nintendo deserves gratitude for his practices. They choose to not release a lot of the games and a time, and then use the hype of the rerelease to boost the price up. Do you know that mario galaxy is 20 dollars in the wii u eshop? and mario 64 is 10 dollars. And since they are here in a bundle they actually should be cheaper, thats the purpose of bundles. Unlike with the rest of the industry, nintendo games seem to go up in price with time, instead of down. And then only release them for a limited time. I don't think the improvements are at all substantial, they only improved a very small selection of textures, mostly the text. The widescreen for sunshine is the rudementary upscale that you can do in dolphin, with the diference that there you could run it at 60 fps. There is almost no improvements to these releases except from what naturally comes with emulation. Play every wii u n64 release and its almost exactly the same, except for those very few improved or changed textures. I just ask for some mapping options, gamecube controller support and maybe scans of the manuals, since they are part of the original experience. I don't think thats too much to ask for. Just a little effort to justify full price

alex bob I think we’ve been spoiled with the current day remakes. Nintendo probably had nothing initially planned other than the Super Mario 3D World and due to pressure from well everyone, they spit out the collection to shut up the public. Besides these anniversary deals are a cheap cash grab. Usually 25th, 40th, and 50th are generally more celebrated upon. I know toy companies do the anniversary bit all the time but that’s usually to sell more toys. Same thing here.

For example, I LOVED Dark Souls Remastered, even though it did nothing to improve the normal PC version with mods, and actually made it worse in many areas. That wasn't because of the remaster but the original game. They could have made SM64 widescreen at the very least, now I'm basically playing it on a Gameboy screen.

I don’t think anyone is really complaining about the games themselves, they’re great, but rather the lack of effort put into the collection as a whole. The package is as lazy and barebones as it gets. There’s literally zero extras other than digital soundtracks. I just think people would’ve expected a bit more care from Nintendo for a big 35th anniversary release of their biggest most famous IP.

Galaxy 1&2 are my persona favourite 3D Mario games, with 3D world as a close 3rd. I'm over being mad about the omission of Galaxy 2 now that I've played this. The other two games in this collection are great but the Galaxy games have always been a 10/10 for me, and to play Galaxy in this collection is such a treat, such a magical, wonderful, calming experience.

Disappointed as a straight emulator they didn't fix marios movement in 64. Tried to emulate it s couple years ago and used a ps3 controller but found his movement much less precise since the n64 controller was not designed for true 360 movement so a modern controller doesn't register most angles. Sad to say its no different on switch.

The n64 controller has precise movement. The emulators never account for that really though. Also anything but an official N64 controller also has that problem. It is awkward but can get used to it :)

The N64 controller absolutely was designed for 360 degree movement. Don't get confused just because it had that octagonal guide, it still output X and Y axes like any other stick.

I've been thinking about this for a while. What if the reason why *Mario Galaxy 2* has been absent was because they're planning a second wave of limited runs for 3D Mario Games? _Unlikely and far-fetched,_ but there are a decent amount of 3D Mario games from the DS era. Especially *Super Mario 64 DS* (a noteworthy upgrade w/ additional characters and graphical updates, limited only by 4-directional inputs). I highly doubt it, but I wouldn't put it past Nintendo if they see *SM 3D All-Stars* sells well enough.

Even though it's all Emulated, I do like how they seem to be pumping in improved graphical assets on the fly for Mario 64. Everything is MUCH smoother and sharper looking than it should be, even with the upscale. It's clear that they have actually reworked some of the textures and such to make them look nicer, which I can definitely appreciate. Mario 64 is really the only game I care about on this collection, and it was worth it to me being such a huge fan of it. Of course it's a game we should have already gotten for like $10 on the nonexistent Switch Virtual Console, but I digress...

Of all three games that are on here, I think Super Mario Sunshine is the one that reminds me of Super Mario Odyssey (the one 3D Mario game built from the ground up for Nintendo Switch) the most. The reasons I say that is because they are the only two games in the series to have a pure analogue camera controlled entirely by a stick, blue coins and regional coins are close to the same idea, and going with the blue coins and regional coins, that makes for a lot of exploration of really big open areas. Also, Cappy and FLUDD are the same idea, secret linear obstacle course areas, and NPCs the world over (which is now the one thing all these games have in common).

I am playing SunShine for the first time. I had a little trouble with the controls at first but I am enjoying it. I do own Mario 64 on the N64 and DS. I also own Galaxy as well. And I could have bought SunShine on Gamecube which I have been considering doing for some time. But I am still happy with the 3D collection. It allows me to play SunShine for the first time and does not cost a whole lot more than the GC version. And the pro controller is more comfortable than the old worn N64 controller I have. So I did see value in the collection for myself and am satisfied with the purchase. One point against them doing more with the collection is that I don't think I would want them making too many changes to the game. For example if they did a remake. It still needs to look and feel like the games I remember. If they changed too much I could see a lot of backlash from fans. That being said I do feel like they could have done a lot more with this collection. It just seems to me like Nintendo has gotten lazy and has lacked a certain level of quality that use to be there but is gone or is fading. I am slowing drifting away from Nintendo I mean I still love their games but I feel like the company is not the same as it use to be and I am slowing accepting the fact that they might continue down that path and never return.

I guarantee you had it released on the 3DS it would've been seen as the definitive way to play SM64 to this day. As it stands it's held back by somewhat clunky handling thanks to the 8-way movement and the need to use the touchscreen to control either camera or movement depending on your preference.

Mario 64 DS is much different from the original game - this was to celebrate the original game. There are 150 stars in DS, yet significantly easier to beat than the original because of the new characters. Fun game, but definitely not the original and not appropriate for this anniversary edition.

na I think many loved the Galaxy games from the start, otherwise they wouldn’t have made a sequel. I’d say Sunshine is the one that gained more love as years went by.

In 64 they change Mario’s voice line when toss bowser from “So long! King Bowser!” To “ See ya later!” And i was like duuuuude come on really!? Lol we all know why they changed it but come on lol

This is the Japanese rerelease that’s why that line is different. Japan has no ‘Bowser’, just call him King Koopa.

The original Super Mario 64 in Japan had no Mario voice acting, so when they rereleased it, they had to change the line because Bowser isn't known as Bowser in Japan.

I never got to play sunshine because we only were allowed multiplayer games with all my brothers. And I wasn't into the controls for Galaxy so I really never got to play either of those games. Excited to hear that the buy is worth it. Can't wait to pick it up

For those who are wondering if you can play sunshine with a gamecube controller yes, but I'm using a wireless controller on it. Also the dive button it's switched to Y instead of B like the original it will get easier with some pratice 👍

Got mine delivered in store to make sure I got the decal Joycon skins and to avoid BS. I knew that this game would be crazy with shipping cause of Covid. Sure enough, hardly anyone was in my Gamestop and they had an employee handing out masks. Got my copy and Decal skins quickly and left.

@@boatenthusiastandexplorer6961 i would love to, but honestly i don't have the money this week to do that. i could cancel my pre-order from gamestop and go get it in person, but the refund would take about a week. they also can't just transfer online orders to the stores. i told them to just refund my shipping because i paid for day one and didn't get it. my package says it has the joycon skins. i doubt i'll actually get those, and honestly don't care much about having those. but i'm holding on to hope i'll actually get it this week. never again am i ordering from gamestop. or even just buying anything from them. next time i'll pre-order from best buy and drive the 50 minutes to the closet one and pick up in store.

I picked this up yesterday, I was apprehensive paying £50 as I've been emulating Mario 64 for the best part of 20 years and have all 3 of these games already on my Wii U. Mario 64: Yes I agree it would have been nice for them to have ported this natively, but the re-worked in game text and certain textures such as the HUD and certain character models (especially Mario) do make this feel very sharp/polished. I kinda get why they didn't go 16:9, but It would be nice to have an option in the menu to scale the game so that it at least removes the top and bottom borders. Sunshine: This is emulated well, but I agree that an option to control the F.L.U.D.D using the gyro would be helpful as the aiming is terrible. Overall very polished and does look better than running the original game on a Wii U. Galaxy: I've been told time and time again this along with Galaxy 2 are probably the best 3D Mario game ever made, but I just cannot get onboard with the Wii controls so have purposely avoided the game since 2007 awaiting an official re-release. Genuinely looking forward to playing this one, the graphics do look incredible and significantly better than running the game natively on a Wii or Wii U. Now that Nintendo have their own N64 and Gamecube/Wii emulators running on the Switch, hopefully we will get more classic ports like this in the future!

Me and my GF love it. We played it 10 hours nonstop yesterday. I only played Mario 64 as a kid, she played that one and Mario Galaxy. Galaxy is sooo fun.

I can see why people are upset with the collection, I'm picking it up for nostalgia's sake
