I've never played it before, I missed it and the Galaxy games, but after I went through Mario 64 for the 65th or so time (love that game), I started Sunshine. I get that it's different than your typical 3D Mario game, but I'm falling in love with the damn thing and it's insanely fun! Except maybe some of those damn pure platforming stages, those things are driving me insane with how hard they are. I'm seriously enjoying it though!

Olimar Jones I agree with you, however all the 3D mario games are experimental except mario galaxy 2 as it was a sequel to a very successful game, but all 3D games could easily be received differently and poorly like unfortunately super Mario sunshine seemed to be, if you just think of all the 3D mario games out of context, Mario 64 was one of the first 3D games ever, Mario Galaxy was in space and had very strange gravity, super Mario 3D world was more linear and less world exploration unlike the other 3D Mario games and Oddesy had cappy, which could have been like fluud which people also don’t seem to like for some reason

I didn’t have Mario 64 back in the day so I’m having a blast. It took me an hour to get used to the camera and the controls. I played sunshine as a kid and I’m stoked to replay that and actually beat it. I never got Galaxy on the wii so I’m looking forward to that too. Then it’s time for Odyssey for the 3rd time!

Yeah they were inverted plus used buttons not a stick so less natural on joycon than the 64 control. However at the time it was the first 3d platformer so games that followed were wierd for a while.

@@acamp2209 Pro tip: don't move the camera around so much. It was never mapped to a stick originally, and wasn't designed for modern double stick controls where you move the camera constantly. When I was a kid I don't think I ever touched the camera at all. Just play it without touching it until you absolutely have to and you should have a better experience

One Nintendo quirk that probably makes ports like this difficult is their insistence on using a different controller for every system. It makes each of their systems feel unique, but it means ports on later systems can never feel 100% authentic, barring the occasional Gamecube title ported over with Gamecube controller support...which this port of Sunshine apparently doesn't have. So...I can imagine it was a huge headache to try and emulate all three games while making them feel right on the Switch.

It still feels different as the analog triggers won't work as they would in the original GameCube game, which would have been possible had this port had proper GameCube controller support instead of the game just recognizing it as a Pro controller. But, using a GameCube controller in this port will still feel 90-95% authentic, and is the best option for that.

I'm really happy to finally have all of these games available on the go. I admit that I'm dissapointed that the package was rather barebones, especially compared to other collections that have been put out by other companies or Nintendo themselves in the past, but I've still had a blast playing these three games over the past few days, and I'm glad they're here in any capacity whatsoever. I hope that Nintendo adds some updates overtime to improve this collection's, or that they release bigger and better ports/remakes/masters in the future for these games. I have to say I'm very worried about the practice of limited releases spreading throughout the industry, the way Tyler has predicted in his KnowledgeHub channel. I suppose we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I don't get that either, but Sunshine was my first one, so for me it was like "this is great! Why did Galaxy stray so far from this?" and then Odyssey finally scratched that "more Sunshine" itch. A game based around actual tricky movements to get through 3d spaces, not just linear stunt tracks or ... i mean, 64 is just a mess. it did a lot for its day, but it's hard to enjoy now. Not to say Sunshine doesn't have mistakes, but even those are weird and charming. baffling, in places, to the point that you can only laugh.

As time goes on, I'm starting to sense why this collection is a limited run, as 2020 is an awkward year for Nintendo and the way these games are handled proves that N64, Gamecube and Wii are possible to emulate on Switch handware. And that might be hinting towards a major announcement, but we'll just have to wait until it gets to 2021 before we hear any big reveals from the company. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long, but only time will tell.

The original AllStars collection was full remakes of 4 games. While I didn't expect them to do full remakes of all of theese, there is a few things I am really disappointed didn't happen. 1. Super Mario 64 camera control overhaul. 2. 16:9 aspect ratio in Super Mario 64. 3. Remakes of cutsceens. They are terrible in all remasters, they always look so different from the HD gameplay.

It has the fastest movement and most precise manual camera, that's all I ask for. When you flick the control stick, mario didn't need to "accelerate" he just dashes immediately. And turning is also instant. Also it has enough polygons unlike 64, and it doesn't need garbage motion controls and pointers and sensors like galaxy, so what more could you need...

12:34 - first time player, here are my thoughts: * Mario 64: This one is honestly rough. I can respect it for what it is and its place in history, but honestly it's really showing its age. It really takes getting used to the controls of this game, and the camera is annoying. Also they need to make the hit boxes for talking to the NPCs larger. IMO it didn't age well - it would be better as a more complete remaster or a remake. * Sunshine: This one is a bit better, although I'd be interested to see what would happen if they added motion controls for aiming FLUDD. Haven't played it much so far, but it seems to be a decent enough game. * Galaxy: This was a Wii game?! It's amazing, it really looks more like a Wii U port, and aside from tightening up the motion controls a bit more it's almost perfect. It's incredibly fun - and yes, it's my favorite of the three. I really missed out on playing a great game here, because our family does have a Wii. Definitely play it with the JoyCons for the best experience.

I never played a 3D Mario game until now thanks to this collection, I haven't beaten any of them yet but I do have an opinion now: Super Mario 64: It is that game I knew people love to speed-run but for me was "meh it's and old game I'll never play it". I tried it and at the beginning I thought "horrible camera controls I'm not sure if I want to play this" but then I felt in love with it, it looks old but the puzzles are great, the levels are well designed, the main goal (collecting stars) is amazing and makes it so addictive, Mario has many moves and it is not as hard as other old games. Summary: Super Mario 64 is old but a great and fun game! Super Mario Sunshine: I didn't know what this game was about, I knew about Flood because Mario uses it in Super Smash Bros. The moment I first started the game I was like "it looks way better than Mario 64" it looked like a weird game at the beginning, but the moment I got Flood and found that I can make the toads scream by wetting them I started have fun, the game has great mechanics, great level design, better graphics, and better camera controls. Summary: I love this game and I don't know why I never knew anything about it. Super Mario Galaxy: I have only played a couple of hours of this game and I these are the words that come to my mind when I think of my short experience with it: beautiful, great music, super fun, great experience using the Joycon motion controls (I never had a Wii :C) I feel happy playing this game; Mario, the music, and the levels give me great emotions while playing this game. Summary: I'll beat the other two games first and leave the best for the end, I'll play it slowly, enjoy it and explore each corner of this game. When I was a kid I played Super Mario Bros 2 and 3, Super Mario Land and Super Mario World 1 and 2 (Yoshi's Island) in my GameBoy Advance SP, and New Super Mario Bros. in the Nintendo DSi. I have great memories playing those games while imitating Mario's voice. Mario has a special place in my heart and finally after many years I played a Mario Game again, I got my Nintendo Switch a year ago and I've been enjoying Super Mario Maker 2 a lot, but now I found out some great titles I missed in their time and once more I can feel like a kid while playing these 3D Mario Games.

Never was a big Mario game fan myself, but the one game I did play often at my cousin's house was Super Mario Sunshine and man I loved that game! I remember thinking the graphics were soooo good and the water looked so nice, and really enjoyed the atmosphere of that game. That game alone is going to make me buy this package on the switch.

I’m still not certain that this obvious cash grab is even worth it, $60 is way too overpriced for 3 ports. I wouldn’t pay $20 for just a PORT of an N64 game nor would I pay $20 for a single (again) basically just a port of a GameCube game in 2020 so unless you’re telling me that galaxy is still worth $40 then this collection just isn’t worth it. It’s also pretty scummy when you realise that The Crash and Spyro remakes were priced at $40 each and Rare Replay (which included Banjo 1,2,3, Conker, Grabbed By The Goulies, perfect dark 1,2 and MANY MORE) also launched for $40. Nintendo’s pricing strategy is horrible but they know that their Nintendrone fans will buy it up.

Froggy I compared to rare replay which is a collection of 30 ports for $40 and used Spyro/Crash to show that a complete remake of 3 games can cost less than $60 meaning that complete ports should also cost less than $60. that's the whole problem, Nintendo does such a poor job of letting you play their old games that people are willing to take whatever crap nintendo slaps together. I still wonder where people are getting all this patience for nintendo from. They're taking a big mario collection off all storefronts in 6 months. i’m currently playing sunshine and i’m loving it. i played it on gamecube but never in full, so it feels fresh to me. it’s such a unique way to play mario. i played a lil 64 but the controls and camera are annoying but i have good memories of it on DS. Excited to play galaxy once i’m done with sunshine.

I agree the whole some fans crying over "its just an emulation wahh" like who cares lol most compilation games collections are. It's not HD remastered, redone Nintendo never said that yet some entitled fans act like this was some sort of HD 4k unreal engine promise or something...lol The game is amazing and the physical copy has limited copies that will go up in value in the future no doubt. Half of the negative response I think is that it feels low-effort. Letting Nintendo get away with the bare minimum isn't great for consumers. The price for what it delivers is more of the issue than the collection itself. These types of barebones collections are never (afaik) $60. Way fewer complaints if it were around $40. Nintendo is straight up below industry standards and charges you more for it, thats why people are mad.

Having poured many hours in Super Mario 64 on both the original console and on Project 64 I can guarantee you the input lag is there, it’s not just an audio problem. I come from a fighting game background and also played melee competitively so I’m sensitive to any noticeable input lag. I’m still glad I bought it because I want to support these kinds of projects to come to other games like the Zelda series.

This is my first time playing all three of these and honestly Sunshine is my favorite. It’s adorable, so sunny and warm, the characters are fun, and the battles are fair but hard. It also doesn’t suffer from the old age that 64 is, its old but is still holding up pretty well. Especially with the updates.

Pro controller tip for galaxy, point it really far to the up right and then hit center, so that when you put your controller back in it’s normal position the cursor goes to the edge of the screen and disappears, if you want it back, hit r and it’s right in the middle. I really prefer playing with no cursor on screen when I’m not using it and this basically accomplishes that

mario 64 came out during the same time as resident evil 2, final fantasy 7, crash bandicoot, spyro, medievil...fuck, in medievil ps4 (40$) you can unlock the original ps1 version and it runs it glorious 4k. thats just an unlockable bonus and then you have mario 64 run in 720p in 2020. wow.

I had heard a lot of peoples critiques about emulation, and so I went in a little skeptical. However, I'm amazed how good these games feel. It's the best Mario 64 experience I've had, and Sunshine feels really good (although I really miss analog triggers). Haven't gotten around to Galaxy yet, but I'm really excited for it when I finish the others. I understand why people may have expected more, but I'm perfectly happy with this collection, it's been a joy to play.

I find that the cursor works nearly flawlessly if you use the joy-con wrist strap attachment. It allows the signal between the joy-con and the switch to not get blocked as it does without the strap attachment.

I just played and beat Mario 64 for the first time on the Switch. I'm glad I finally did. I didn't have an N64 growing up. There was a lot of frustrations, but that was mostly camera related problems. I may be tempted to go back for all 120 stars one day.

Spot on. - Mario 64 is an early 3D game and suffers for it with things like the camera and large turning circle. I also felt the analogue movement could have done with a little tweak, the difference between slow walk and run is so small. Regardless once you get used to it’s nuances it is still Mario 64 and still fantastic. - Sunshine not played much yet but looks wonderful graphically - Galaxy with the joycons is a... er.... joy ;) the pointing without IR is very accurate and feels great. I don’t see why Yoshi in Galaxy 2 couldn’t work in docked mode like this. However it is held back by handheld mode and Yoshi would be tricky as at times you need to control direction, press buttons and use pointing which would take 3 hands!

I was born in 1992 and the Nintendo 64 was the first true 3d system at the time I grew up playing Ps1 at the time and seeing the Nintendo 64 at a friend's house one time with Super Smash Brothers got me hooked onto wanting a 64 so I eventually got one but I eventually sold it for a dreamcast but still seeing a full 3d Mario game back than was truly ground breaking and I will always remember the moment also down the line in life in my teen years I got the Wii which was Mario Galaxy and that was one of my favorite Wii games ever,I absolutely loved the motion control gimmick of the Wii it's still one of my favorite systems to this day and this collection is like a homage to my past memories with these systems
