Performance is a long term process, you either wait for deals or you pay for the "in the moment" experience. I have pieced together a SS2 mainly from Gwatney including converter, trunnion upgrade, timing chain upgrade as well as the usuals(lifters, bolts, dampener etc) and have spent well under 2k including some suspension parts and 3.91 gears. So it can be done cheaper if you know where AND when to buy. Best advice i got and can pass along is; take time to build once thus spending only one. Firm handshakes on doing all your work.

The lifters and rods as well as the other parts that go into the heads.Plugs and fluids and tune. I don’t think I can do that work myself I have some knowledge but I never took apart an engine. I did change the starter on my BMW X3 I had to remove the intake and a lot of other stuff and buy tools. I spent $190 the shop wanted $1800.I don’t think I should touch the engine on my Camaro SS.

Definitely man. Lots of good shops around so there’s no down side to handing the car off. Plus the LT1 cam install is a little more involved than the LS3 from what I’ve seen. Those 6th gens move with a good cam set up though. She’ll be fun when she’s done.

Thanks bro for the help i keep getting different anwers from other people but i see your honest, valley cover doesnt come included in the kit i believe is it needed and the trunnion kit??
@DylanLustick8 ай бұрын
@@normajorge9906 yeah so if you’re going l99 to ls3 the valley cover is necessary. And the trunnion isn’t “necessary” per say, but it’s highly recommended. The factory trunnion is just a bunch of tiny needle bearings and if one of them decides to go on you that’d be a bunch of tiny metal going straight into the engine. So, having the peace of mind, I think, is worth the $200.
@g0tsp33d5 ай бұрын
@@DylanLustick the trunion is 100% necessary I almost lost my ls1 vette to it. Rocker blew up at high rpm, an outer dual spring exploded on me, and it also took out a chunk of piston, but not enough to burn through. Pushrods will 100% bend on stock engines and I've pulled them out of so many stock trucks it's insane. PRC have been tested to 1000hp and I replaced the Yella Terra's on my LS3 stick SS with them because the Yellas can be loud.

They’re just about the same price. If you’re daily driving then a VVT cam should be fine (assuming you have a good tuner who knows how to tune a VVT setup). The word is that the VVT cams make more torque across the power band then the non-VVT ones. My recommendation is if you’re dailying your car, just get a GPI SS1 VVT setup with all the best top end parts and call it a day.

@paulfrankelphd3 ай бұрын
What was the issue that you had with your initial oil pressure? Was it the oil pressure sender? Great video. My local shop in Memphis, TN, want about $5k to do this for me. It includes labor and parts. How much hp and tq is this worth overall? I would guess 50-75 hp from a cam install. Thanks!
@DylanLustick3 ай бұрын
So, when I deleted my oil cooler I put a block off plate that completely sealed the oil cooler ports. Come to find out that you can’t “block off” the oil cooler. You actually have to get a “block off” plate that redirects the oil through both of the little ports of where the oil cooler would be. If you completely block it off then your oil doesn’t pass through and you slowly lose oil pressure. So, I just had to buy the right part and it was good. 5K seems like a good price. And I couldn’t tell you because I don’t have a before and after dyno sheet. But most of these bigger cams will get you around 75 hp.

@@DylanLustickbro unless you are looking for a max effort build the price of porting will not be worth the gain on a factory displacement LS3. Then again is your money but for the cost if max hp is desired you get a much better cost from a small nitrous kit from NO. @DylanLustick Жыл бұрын
@@johncrankshaft2886 yeah one of these days I’ll buy the dipstick from JRE. I still don’t understand why GM didn’t put one in from factory 🤦🏽♂️. @@DylanLustick my info on porting came from Richard Holdener so i believe it to be correct with all the dyno sessions they have, the dipstickless trans are a industry standard now; the aisin 8speeds on GM/Toyotas also dont have dipsticks.
