Why say anything?! His attorney should have advised him not to say anything. It’s insulting to hear, “I can’t live with myself.” “I can’t watch tv.” What a small price to pay, very small in comparison to the lives you’ve taken, the trauma you have caused and lives you have changed forever.
@LM-mr3fd

Yes, it is hard to not be offended by some of what he said. That said, I got the impression that this was something that he truly wrote out himself (I guess that is better than someone writing it for him). To me, it felt more indicative of his immaturity than a sense of self-pity tbh. It seems to me that he struggles to some degree with expressing himself properly. I genuinely think that, in his immature mind, he thought that mentioning that he can't even watch TV anymore would be strong proof of just how affected he is by what he did that day. Thing is, it wasn't very clear and could easily be interpreted as though he was complaining about not being ALLOWED to watch TV anymore. I suspect that he was likely trying to say that watching TV triggers memories of what he did so he can't watch it anymore. I'm not really sure that he could have said anything that could truly convince people that he is remorseful and haunted by his actions but I do think that was what he was attempting to do. I sincerely hope that he is genuinely remorseful and repentant but there is no way for us to truly know. Regardless, he deserves to be properly held accountable for the horrendous crimes he committed. Personally, I don't condone the death penalty but I do think that he deserves life in prison for taking 17 lives that day and for causing immeasurable pain to so many others.

Well to be quite honest, this case was a slam dunk and already predetermined. This is actually a common practice in cases where the defendant has plead guilty to multiple homicides. It's actually good nurtouring for young judges. Just like any profession, you need to start somewhere. There are trials and tribulations in all careers. There is absolutely no way that young and learning judges can possibly mess this up. The defendant has pled guilty to 17 counts of premeditated homicide! There are specific guidelines that must be followed as far as sentencing. This hearing is more a formality. It's more for the families, who deserve to be heard by the world. This is also an opportunity for Cruz to feel the full weight and sorrow from the victims friends and families. Without these hearings over the past few weeks. It would be as if Cruz got 17 free kills and slipped out behind the stage without ever having to confront these families . If this man has the ability to be rehabilitated in his 744 year maximum Florida prison sentence. Or whether he can mill over it the next 7-10 years before they put him to sleep! Which still seems to easy to me! I don't mean to sound barbaric. But there are still at least a dozen or so nations that impose Capital punishment in the manner that you took your victims life. I believe he needs to understand that pain, if only for a few seconds 😡 I better stop, time to go to work, and I don't like where this is going...God bless everyone!

If you watch the psychology video on this guy on youtube you can see that after the shooting he acts insane, but only when the cops are questioning him. When the cops leave the room he is perfectly fine. He knew what he did and he should not have spoken here at all. He is just a sick person and life in prison is not good enough of a punishment. If I find the link of the psychology video I'll post it here. This wasn't about being high. That was his normal state of mind.

I understand probably a lot of people want him to get the death penalty, (which I would probably want if I was one of the victims families but I'm not) but I honestly believe it would be more of a punishment both mental and physical to have him sit in a solitary confinement cell for the rest of his life everyday staring at the wall reliving what he did over and over!

@@mixebox High profile killers sometimes are killed in prison but usually not. Dahmer was killed because he went into general population, which was his choice- he had to know he would be killed, it was a matter of time, but either he couldn't take solitary any more or he wanted to leave this world or both.

True. Its never going to be an exact science that cures all, but a whole lot more could be done that's for sure. Those who engineer society, do this deliberately, so that the mass of population are kept down by having to deal with such mess. You hear the term "falling through the cracks in society", but they're not cracks anymore, they're giant chasms that people fall into, with no hope of ever getting out.

I can't imagine how the victims and families felt hearing this. I'm sure that he is really sorry now, but hearing his videos about how he bragged about what he was going to do, and bragging about wanting to kill people and see their families suffer. I feel some pity for him because I can't even imagine trying to live with myself if I did something like this. I couldn't even look in the mirror and would want the death penalty because I doubt I could live with what I had done. I do feel some pity for that but I also believe that he should get the death penalty. Life with no parole is expensive for the tax payers, and because he killed children.

26 years for murdering 17 people?? He needs life without parole or the death penalty. There were people in California who got life for shoplifting a t-shirt.
