@LM-mr3fd2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is hard to not be offended by some of what he said. That said, I got the impression that this was something that he truly wrote out himself (I guess that is better than someone writing it for him). To me, it felt more indicative of his immaturity than a sense of self-pity tbh. It seems to me that he struggles to some degree with expressing himself properly. I genuinely think that, in his immature mind, he thought that mentioning that he can't even watch TV anymore would be strong proof of just how affected he is by what he did that day. Thing is, it wasn't very clear and could easily be interpreted as though he was complaining about not being ALLOWED to watch TV anymore. I suspect that he was likely trying to say that watching TV triggers memories of what he did so he can't watch it anymore. I'm not really sure that he could have said anything that could truly convince people that he is remorseful and haunted by his actions but I do think that was what he was attempting to do. I sincerely hope that he is genuinely remorseful and repentant but there is no way for us to truly know. Regardless, he deserves to be properly held accountable for the horrendous crimes he committed. Personally, I don't condone the death penalty but I do think that he deserves life in prison for taking 17 lives that day and for causing immeasurable pain to so many others.

Well to be quite honest, this case was a slam dunk and already predetermined. This is actually a common practice in cases where the defendant has plead guilty to multiple homicides. It's actually good nurtouring for young judges. Just like any profession, you need to start somewhere. There are trials and tribulations in all careers. There is absolutely no way that young and learning judges can possibly mess this up. The defendant has pled guilty to 17 counts of premeditated homicide! There are specific guidelines that must be followed as far as sentencing. This hearing is more a formality. It's more for the families, who deserve to be heard by the world. This is also an opportunity for Cruz to feel the full weight and sorrow from the victims friends and families. Without these hearings over the past few weeks. It would be as if Cruz got 17 free kills and slipped out behind the stage without ever having to confront these families . If this man has the ability to be rehabilitated in his 744 year maximum Florida prison sentence. Or whether he can mill over it the next 7-10 years before they put him to sleep! Which still seems to easy to me! I don't mean to sound barbaric. But there are still at least a dozen or so nations that impose Capital punishment in the manner that you took your victims life. I believe he needs to understand that pain, if only for a few seconds 😡 I better stop, time to go to work, and I don't like where this is going...God bless everyone!

"i have to live with this every day". despite all the emotion, he showed zero empathy. his entire speech was self promotion. he didnt once acknowledge that they live through hell each day, of that the lives were gone. of course most perps would say "if i ever had a chance to do it again... "..yeah after being caught. and yeah the drugs is just further self promotion, trying to say it wasnt his fault despite pleading guilty. Not a pysch, but id say hes pretty classically a narcissist. he doesnt seem to have the power to put himself in someone elses shoes. he only sees what he is facing and its no longer fun. he wants out of the mess he made. "if I could go back, ID help people" how about if youd go back youd not kill theri loved ones and not cause such anguish and pain to the families. But that would be taking responsibility and realizing the pain of the surviving families. And if you havent watch the interrogation of this .. thing. he is a practiced actor and liar.
