Negotiating, Chinese style. I learned this from a friend who was producing model trains in China for sale in the US. They will fly you out and put you up in a very nice hotel for four days. First day, tour the factory. Second day meet and sightsee, third day they’ll come up with an excuse as to why they’re very busy and they will meet you to finalize contracts tomorrow. The fourth day, the final day. They’ve got you in a corner, because they know you don’t want to return to the US without a contract and this is how they do it. My friend had spoken to several other companies and all had the exact same story.

Ha! A friend that owns a truck repair business with 3 locations, was invited to China for working out a purchasing deal. Not only did they wine and dine him, they sent young gorgeous women to his hotel room. He's married with a strong Christian faith, and sent them away. The next day, they told him no deal would be done, put him on a plane and flew him back. They obvuously will only work with people they can corrupt and control. Who knows, they probably had cameras and audio recorders in his hotel room for blackmailing.

Back in 1990s, I was an engineer working for a large international telecom company in Texas on a huge proposal for the Chinese government. At the bidders meeting, the room was crowded with all these ancient bureaucrats. First one, and then others, started demanding $40k "bribes" for their approvals of the bids. Since that is against American law, my company refused to pay and we lost the contract (even though we were the lowest bidder and surpassed the specs). China is corrupt on all levels.

I’m also ex military and lived in China for 7 years, in particular, Shenzhen during its extraordinary economic boom, I’ve never seen a city clean up, and develop so fast in my life, first year, people were pissing and shitting on the middle of the street, 2nd year, they were all gone, all the shacks, all the swamp, it’s not Singapore by all means , but it was incredible to watch. As far as CCTV and all that, it isn’t made for those who don’t break the law, but those who do, lots of opportunist there , haha.

I lived in Singapore for two years and yes, it's beautiful city. However, if you wander off the beaten path you still see Asia. Japan is probably the cleanest place I have spent time in, it's just to cold in the winter for my liking.

@ you are right, I’m not China ass kisser but I legit liked it there, had some incredible time and met incredible people there , and they legit cleaned up the place, if you like architecture, a huge city and the beach then you’d love it there , I was there for 7 years like I said, and frankly I never seen it return to how it was when I was first there, because they actually started jailing and fining people for breaking the rules and doing things like pissing and crapping on the road , are there poor spots? Absolutely but it pales in comparison to places like San Francisco (skid row)

I lived in Chengdu for 10 years. The people are great. The institutions are morally bankrupt. If the Chinese people rid themselves of these institutions and governments and live without a monarchy and cult of personality type government, then they would prosper. Ancient China has invented a great deal of things we use up to this date such as seismometers, fiat currency etc etc but recent history, they’ve been taught to steal and copy. The people deserve better and deserve more because when left to inwardly expand, they do so naturally and lovingly. Attention to detail, outlooks on life etc are deep. I am also ex-british military myself.
