3yr-$93million? Every player knows the Mets are willing to overpay in the AAV for less years, like Scherzer & Verlander. Why would a homegrown guy from the organization not expect that if he’s not getting long term security? His initial asks were crazy but he is a top 3-5 HR hitter in the league who still is in the 93rd percentile in bat speed and in the 80th percentile in hard hit rate so there is no reason to believe he won’t continue to be that for 3 years especially in the best lineup he would ever be apart of, heck there’s reason to believe he improves as he’s still above average in chase rate he just needs to become disciplined at not chasing 1 pitch, the low and away breaking ball.

Even for a base of $25M / year, add $5M for 100+ RBI's, another $5M for 40+ HR's, another $5M for a gold glove, and $10M for a World Series, each year; then Pete could get a 5 or 6 year contract, worth up to $50M per year; potentially $300M. With Soto on base at a .430 clip it’s almost a sure thing Pete returns to 40-110 form. You guys are seriously opposed to 3/100 when we just paid Soto 800? Let me make this crystal clear: Pete Alonso gave us some incredible memories as a Met. He was a great part of this team, and I’ll always appreciate what he’s done for the franchise. But now? I’m over it. Pete had the chance to sign a good extension with the Mets, one that was fair and showed respect for what he’s brought to this team. Instead, he played the greed card, which is his choice, but it dragged out the process and hurt the organization in the long run. His refusal to commit forced the Mets to pivot, slowing down everything we’ve been working toward. At the end of the day, Pete, you screwed us over. I’m officially out on Alonso. Disagree. There are few hitters with Pete's power. He has hit more HRs in his years with the Mets than any other hitter in the NL. That is valuable. And as much as people love to talk about "market value" for Pete right now, nobody wants to revisit his "market value" in his past ... because he has been grossly underpaid up until now ... when he finally hits FA. If Pete had been allowed to seek a "market contract" after his first year -- in which he hit 53 HRs and firmly established himself as the top HR hitter in the NL -- he would have made a ton of money. But the rules didn't let him access the market. So, Pete ... after establishing the all-time rookie record for HRs -- was only able to earn well less than $1 million. And nobody cared. Nobody said "why shouldn't he get a market value?" NOBODY. And now when he finally hits free agency, everyone is jumping on the "market value" bandwagon. Pete simply needs to accept "market value." Now. He was barred from seeking "market value" before ... but now he just has to accept market value. This sickens me. It is a clear indication of why the richest among us always win. The billionaires are never expected to pay. It is always about "greedy" players who want too much money. Makes me want to vomit.
