I quit working at DQ because the good managers left and the new ones don't tell us to flip them. (Was the only one still doing it) But mainly it was because they refused to add cherries, cherry dipped cones, and limeades to the menu (And like all other DQs have those items )

I'm a crew trainer at DQ and have to do this evey time, once I had one partially melted flipped it and it spilled so a re-make was needed. I like the idea of flipping it since no other resuturant I can think of that serves ice cream based things does. And it's interesting to see where the idea came from.

Maybe other places don't flip it because they don't want to get sued. Lol. DQ trademarked everything else, I'd be surprised if flipping a cup wasn't trademarked too. Lol. My ice cream shop doesn't flip their not-blizzards because they actually add a nice garnish on top.

Ex-Dairy Queen employee here. The Blizzard Flip is to show the customer that the Blizzard has just been made. Since the cups are paper, the ice cream will melt around the sides so if the cup has been sitting out for a minute and we try to hand it to a customer, it will fall out

Also, Sam Temperato didn't come up with this idea. The idea came from a St. Louis business called Ted Drewes. Ted Drewes is a frozen custard shop (Frozen Custard is like Ice Cream but creamier and thicker). Since frozen custard is so thick the main thing they sell are "Concretes" and are practically Blizzards. They were named Concretes for a reason, and Ted Drew (As you can guess, Owner of Ted Drewes) was the one who started serving them upside down. Sam Temperato got the idea from this, but as many known corporate tycoons often like to leave small business in the dust.

Funniest true story about DQ I ordered a blizzard and they served it upside down so about when I ate 1/4 of it I decided to flip it upside down. It worked the first 2 times but not the third and the rest of the blizzard fell onto the table. My friend and her sister and my family started cried laughter. I went to the cashier and told him about it he laughed to and gave me a new one. XD LOL

I don't flip it every time. don't tell my boss. when people request their free blizzard after we don't flip, we get mad. you can rarely flip a banana split blizzard. if you get multiple blizzards in drive thru, we only to flip one. but if you come in and get 17, we have to flip all 17. if you get your blizzard without a lid, you get more ice cream. old people think it's exhilarating when you flip. except one lady, who threatened to throw it back if her blizzard was flipped.
