That’s one reason why I stopped working in an Auto shop. I can’t name anything, but it really pissed me off that we were getting pressed to promote services that were not needed at all.

I won't go to a dealership unless it's a simple recall. The nearest one lied and cost me over $1000. I couldn't drive it off the lot, drove back to the service bay. They said they would take care of it. A day later, they said something else was wrong, and it would be over $1000 more. I told them to put it back together so I could drive it to another shop. Amazing, it worked fine. Without the extra 1k bill.

It's why my grandfather gave up his service station in his 60s. He didn't want to relearn how to work on cars that started to get computerized back in the 90s. Nor did he want to buy new tools to work on them. Dont blame him. Cars need to get rid of computerized head lights, windows, nav, brakes, shifting, traction control, wipers, cruise control... a few others. All those things are more reliable an longer lasting as a simple on off switch. No need for a Dell to decide how your lights work

Changing SOME of the trans fluid on a mid or high mileage vehicle is most often fine. Leave the filter alone unless it is visibly clogged, don't disturb anything. Great video as always! Only thing I disagree with is the last question about the transmission fluid. I have a 07 BMW 328 with 290k on it. I never changed the trans fluid because I never had any slippage etc. At about 270k I finally started to have some slips and vibration when going from 2-3 and decided to change the fluid. I ended up not flushing but just drained the fluid and replaced the fluid with a newer dex and this thing is like brand new again. Whether it was the age of the fluid (probably) or the new formulas, this thing runs like new again and is smooth as it gets.

If you're a smart mechanic, have the tools/equipment and have a space to work, just do jobs on your own and charge a reasonable shop rate! You will have customers up the wazoo and never need to worry about not having jobs! Don't do engine rebuilds or transmission rebuilds as they will take days to do and you might not have parts available for these. I would say that there are many jobs that are overcharged at big shops/dealerships that can be done relatively cheap at a private shop that only charges for the actual hours worked. eg. My 2005 Subaru Outback, 2.5i, they wanted 500.00 to do sparkplugs and another 250.00 for engine treatment. They wouldn't do the plugs unless I agreed to the treatment. I told them to pound sand and did it myself. It took me 30 minutes to find a video of the plug change, then 30 minutes to go get the plugs and finally 45 minutes to actually change the plugs without removing the engine or tilting it. The final cost of me doing it was about 70.00. Parts were 40.00 and 2 cans of beer were 8.00 and 45 minutes of my time. I would have gladly paid 100.00 for a tech to do it and that would be it, but, no one will do it for that. The world needs mechanics that charge rates that are within our pay rate... I don't make 135.00/hr., I make 20.00/hr. and that is what I can afford!

Bottom line, DO NOT GOTO A DEALER ! Unless it is warranty! Then maybe take your LAWYER WITH YOU! AND A CAMERA TO VIDEO EVERY WORD! Under cover of course! AND IN THE CAR TOO! What SCUM THEY ARE! , not the mechanics, the owners of the dealerships!

This isn't special to mechanics, this is every business today. All done by design. Follow the corrupt money handlers. 👍

Anymore I have to be a mechanic and computer tech to work on the newer crap and most guys either want to be one or the other not both. Wish the car companies would realize that don’t need all this electronic crap and just go back to basics like early 90s and call that good enough.

how do you as a business owner now make sure that you don't run things the same way as your previous employers?

Here is a random one. 2001 suburban 5.4. The alternator it's making a whining noise in stages. I thought it was a transmission slipping on shifts, but it's not. It's RPM related, not speed related. I can be at idle and slowly rev the engine, and the pitch increases, then drops increases. Then drops, just like you were shifting, and the motor rpm was changing. I thought it was the transmission slipping on shifts. How does the regulator work in the alternator that would make it changed sounds like that?

So true Scotty. My brother is a great mechanic. Retired now. Owned his own shop many years. He was honest to a fault like you are.

Scotty ! I purchased a 2024 Nissan Frontier because of its price and reliability. If Nissan cannot make a deal with Honda where does that leave me? Warranty support and future repairs? I love the truck but I am concerned about service support while under warranty and after.

Look around in your city and find a private owned shop with a good honest review. They are there..ask around. Do not give up your search. It may take some time, A barber shop worker or lady beauty shop normally hears what is going on in town. Contact them for revealing as to how they were treated and charged.😊😊

👽 .... .. whats wrong with the Nissan Vans ?
@jessem869047 минут бұрын
5:40 Nissan knows how to make excellent vehicles, they just weren't allowed to with Renault in charge of the money. Nissan had quality on par with (even better than in some cases) Honda back in the 90s before Renault got involved, even though Nissan struggled financially even back then. Hopefully Nissan can get back to it's roots of desirable high-quality vehicles now that they have parted ways with Renault, and perhaps Honda's money can help achieve that goal. That's my hope for the merger. I've had several 80s and 90s Nissans, Hondas, Infinitis and Acuras. They were all exceptionally well built and reliable. My current 99 Pathfinder runs great with over 300k miles and is my daily work vehicle.

1. Greedy Company makes a Crappy Car full of Planned Obsolescence. 2. Old Mechanic will retire because of fully loaded dumb work, also because of Planned Obsolescence with the same wage. 3. Car Stealership will sell these crappy cars that is easy to break. 4. Dumb Customer will buy this and after a month will return for repair . 5. Poorply Paid Young"Mechanic" who can only replace parts and can't troubleshoot will "fix" the crappy car. 6. Dumb Customer will return once more any Pays Ton of money, Poorply Paid Young"Mechanic" will do the same sh!t again. 7. Crappy Car will break, No More Parts, Service and Warranty... BACK to Step 1... Rinse and Repeat... Moral of the Story? NOTHING! Just Happy Ending for Greedy Company and Car Stealership... THE END... ... Of Society...

There's still no excuse for screwing people over. Reputation goes a long way. One reason we love Scotty. People won't hesitate to take vehicles to a mechanic if they are honest. Also if they were honest people might buy more cars and more often. Start making cars people really want and can fix at an affordable price. Buyers are suffering like the sellers. I think if they made trucks like they used to, with the means we have today, people would be all over that. Why do we still have "lemons."
