Sometimes you get stung and I have before but this is a fantastic car to say you’ve owned. Keep an eye on the rattle and enjoy it. Just put it down as a characteristic of the car.

Worth trying with the dealer but not expecting too much luck tbh. Only failure that I saw from the video was the tyre. MOT is for the day the vehicle was presented, for all we know the previous owner could have another one of these, swapped the alloy in question over for the test, drove home with a clean bill and swapped it back and traded the car in. Engine noise isn't obvious to those who don't know what the engines are meant to sound like so possibly just missed it. Probably can get a small contribution to the repair of the car but it'll be

His MO had been to buy a hooptie and take it to the Wizard (who he invented and made rich) and do videos on all the work and money to fix them. So he started buying hoopties again. If you want views, get cars that need work and show people how to fix them and how much it costs. I liked this video very much.

One problem with "sell this, buy a nicer one", is that you're going to end up with another unknown car - which may seem better than the current one, but a month or two into your ownership is no better than the current one. Sure, it may have lower miles or fresher tyres, but you don't know if it's got some other issues that you can't tell until a while later. It's a difficult one, for sure. I''m quite glad I don't have to make the decision. If you can get a bit back from the dealer, that would certainly help.

Several people have had succes with installing an Accusump to get around the cam variator issue. Problem with those is that between starting the car and the oil being up to pressure, you are running the cam variators unpressurised for a few seconds, which makes them rattle. The idea behind the Accusump is that prior to turning the engine over, with the accusump you can pressurise the oil system and with that the cam variators are filled and up to pressure before they are being cranked over. Makes a lot of sense.... And costs less than that 4K...

Up to you what you do, but as other people have said, take the car back to the dealer. Thing is, any vehicle sold from a dealer needs to meet trading standards and be fit for purpose. In practice, this means that you have around 3 months to take a car back if it's got any big problems, like this cam variator, and the dealer really doesn't have a leg to stand on. You may even be able to return the car up to 6 months later. Also, sounds like the MOT could possibly be a bit dodgy, but certainly was quite lapse!

See how the dealer reacts, if he is willing to refund half the repair costs, not so bad, the blow on the exhaust should not have been missed, tyre could have been overlooked by mistake, the car is not really that bad for its age, if the dealer is unhelpful just get a refund and mention about the sloppy MOT.

Number plates from Halfords, that in itself on a supercar is massive alarm bells. It's come from Solihull, Postcode B90, I live in the area. So, it really depends on from where in that area it came from. It's either and ex-footballer or, erm, somebody who doesn't care about cars, only their image....

Very interested to see how you get on with the dealer - I just bought a car that a few days after delivery (and under warranty) had complete failure and the dealer is trying to refuse fixing or refunding! Did you buy on a credit card by chance?

I have had a 2005 Quattroporte Executive 4.2 litre Cambio Corsa (Duo Select automated manual) (with Formula Dynamics chips for throttle control and increase from 400HP to 425HP) for 10 years; and a 2012 GranCabrio Sport 4.7 litre with ZF auto box for five years. The Cabrio looks stunning (of course) and attracts comments shouted across the street of "Rich bastards" - nice for my 10 and 14 year old sons in the back. The Quattroporte is almost unnoticeable. Yet it drives faster and handles way better and more easily than the Cabrio. Plus the Quattroporte has far better seats, upholsterery (Poltrona Frau leather), wood and leather and alcantara interior. Sure, the analogue TV doesn't work anymore (all digital now) and the in-console telephone is quite redundant now. While top speed is supposed to be 275kmh (isn't that a supercar?), the speed limiter in the infotainment system (bit of a silly place to put it) reigned the car in at 250kmh. No one, even the dealer, doesn't know how to cancel this - seems no one actually uses the car for what it was built for - high speed luxury travel for a family of five.

Well, aren't we in the same boat 😅😅😅 both got awesome looking and driving modern classics for just under 10k, only to find out they had expensive cam issues! I got a lot fixed and thought now it's worth the repair, 'cheaply' outside the E.U. on my vacation road trip.. the cam was the last of my issues, the engine lost 2liters of oil in the middle of Serbia, where nothing is covered by insurance and phoning someone costs 7€/min! Refilled the oil, and there came all the repairs I previously payed 2k for undone, back to oil leaks, dpf blockages... I am not rich enough to own this car, the question is.. are you?

lol. You bought a £6k Maserati, what the hell did you expect? It’s a super car, they don’t get cheaper to run/repair/maintain when they get older. The MOT test in this country is of a woefully low standard regardless and guess what, the tester is human and can miss items. To indicate that the MOT is dodgy when you know nothing of the sort is completely out of order. Get a grip.

Naive is how you would characterise this video. Paying less than £10000 for a £100,000 pound Maserati and not carrying out a full fat specialist inspection before parting with your cash is just silly. A common sense rule of thumb, the older/ higher mileage/higher original value car you purchase, proportionally, the greater the due diligence you must perform. In this case, you did the exact opposite. The dealer must have seen you coming before you left home.

I work in a mot garage and had to work on a Maserati coupe suspension. Every nut and bolt was such shit quality and was seized and had to be cut and replaced. Strangely they were mostly in stock meaning it was a regular problem. The ones that weren’t available were replaced by BMW equivalents in the end the whole front suspension had to be replaced and it took 3 days to do a job that takes 1/2 a day on most cars.
