Hey guys thanks for watching! If you haven't already then you should check out my fireblade history video here! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ3PlHuspbupkJo Also no hate to the other blades, I just feel the 954RR is the best overall blade you can get. Sure others are faster and more capable or rarer and "cooler" but this one is practical, fast, fun, and cheap! How can you go wrong???

Great video!!! I can personally vouch for everything you've said! I CONCUR! One interesting fact you did miss, it was listed as actually 1kg lighter than the 600 model at 168kg dry (370lb) for the same year. Your video brings on some serious nostalgia! Those stats are absolutely spot on too! The 954 was my first big bore sports bike, and i drag raced, and stunted it (just wheelies and stoppies). Best ever quarter time was a 10.29 (factory set up) used to dial in 10.4 and do it consistently, with 1.7sec 60ft times consistently too, even 1.6 possible (although i never achieved 1.6). Clutch feel when launching was perfect, and subsequent models (08 and 17) feel disconnected in comparison. I used to run SC2 or even SC1 Pirelli superbike tyres. With a 180 (instead of factory 190) wide rear and an Ohlins steering dampener dialed up pretty high, it handled like an absolute dream. I miss it, and thanks again.

@ Almost, I rode a SC 57 of a friend, I test rode a SC 59 (I considered to buy, but didn't) and I test rode a SC 77. SC 50 still is more than enough power, super light and the most comfortable of all. But I have to say, the SC 77 also feels like a 600 (maybe because it is the first modern blade to reach that low weight of the sc 50)

Fantastic bike however the best motorcycle Honda have ever made for road use has to be the rc51 (sp2). I’ve owned both the 954rr and the sp. Both are awesome but the sp is in a different class, no good under 60 mph but crank it up and the handling is unbelievable the faster you go the better it gets😊

Man I wish they would stop trying to “improve” the looks of sport bikes each year or keep trying to keep up with the times. Sport bikes looked the best from around 2003-2008. And yeah about the trunk my 03 r6 has a huge trunk as well. Big enough to fit a couple water bottles or even a wind breaker and my tools. Wish they would go back to simple times of cable throttles and bikes that you had to respect rather than dumbing they down with so many electronics that you’re basically riding a computer

@@badgerman23 yeah because all those little electronics work well, until they break, put some of these new riders on a old bike, you see the skill set straight away, they rely way too much on electronics, no thanks, I prefer the older generation, that any mechanical mind person can read up on and work on with basic tools and skills without relying heavily on computers to set up the bike or fix a simple problem.

No they'd be riding motorcycles without electronics and abs, actually learning how to ride a motorcycle without all those riding aids, most real riders, want the ability to turn abs off because it's a pain in the arse. And if you can't pull away without anti wheelie, then you really do need to learn some riding craft

Lol we'll agree to disagree, I was brought up on bikes from the 80s and 90s, I have abs on street triple and hate it on the road, my first big bike was a 954 and loved it, and I'd have a brand new one over any modern bike, easy to work on yourself without having to take it to the garage, and big enough that you weren't squashed on it like the new fireblade and every other superbike that's been released in the last 8 years

I have to agree with almost everything he has said about this bike. Me and my dad recently completely disassembled and rebuilt our 954 all the way from a bare frame and the bike is so well engineered. It looks incredible and the weight is so low, when I move the bike around it feels like it weighs nothing like literally nothing. The bike does sit low but it's what makes it amazing and when he said you would struggle to keep up with one on the twisties he's right, when I go on the back of it the bike just leans from side to side so easy and you get so much power even at 50% throttle, I mean seriously I've almost fell off the back even at 50% and we reached 100mph faster than you could say holy shit. The bike will go up in value for sure, it just needs discovering first.

I had both and the 929 was softer with its suspension in a better way on the roads. A bit smoother on bumpy roads, The wheels always stayed in contact with the ground and it felt so naturally correct on the road. The 954 was firmer, still very good, just a little harder. But I never went to a suspension expert, so I can't be sure if wasn't just a suspension setting variation between my own bikes. The 954 was great for track days, easy to get the knee down. Lightweight, nimble, enough power, Honda quality. Even after 10 years the 954 still looked fresh. I kept in a garage, dust cover over it always. But I would ride all year around if I wanted to. Heated grips for the win:-)

Cool as Ice ...Both bikes stock. The zrx is powerful but after 100 or so it starts to run out of breath. At 100 the zzr is just getting started. The zzr is great for long hauls and dominates on the highway but is top heavy moving it around the shed. And when you ride it in town you always need to be on full alert as it's a lot of bike. It's a great bike and still would hold its own today. Definitely with the current sport tourers.
@blipco5

Cool as Ice ...Yes, I understand about the cam swaps to the ZRX. I'm happy with the power it already has. The ZRX has been relegated to my long distance tourer ever since I bought a z900. I listed hard over the zx14. I demo'd a couple of 2012 models when they came out. The massive power brought back the memories of my ZZR and running afoul of the law. In the end I'm glad I did not buy the 14, it wasn't a money issue. I'm happy with lightweight 115 rwhp bikes. The z900 with reworked suspension fits the bill.

The 954 was a great bike, but it did have quirks. The heat off the frame was absolutely INTENSE. When pushed near it's power limit, the front did get twitchy. There was a safety recall issued on the 954 to change the bearings, which helped stabilize it. That said, being twitchy is what also made the bike dive into corners like a 600. It responded to all input because it was twitchy. So that was a good, and a bad thing. Still loved mine. The headlights are one of my favorite things about it. Central low beam/running, with the two massive side high beams. Beam pattern was excellent, and just had a beautiful balanced appearance.

The 954 was the pinnacle, I’m on my second one. First was the white/blue 2002, sold it three years ago and always missed it so bought a 2003 blue/black one yesterday. Jumped on and immediately felt at home. So easy to ride fast, so light and you can throw them into corners. I had 2x 2006 cbr 1000rr and 1x 2009 repsol cbr 1000rr and although the power of the 2009 was great it just didn’t have the same handling of the 954. The 2006 model was too boring and predictable. The 954 is just a really good bike and it doesn’t look out of place standing next to the newer litre bikes. Great bike.

Agree with your comments; I've been riding for at least 35 years and have had all sorts of bikes (mainly sports) and I would describe my 2003 Blade as the Nirvana of bikes, it feels almost perfect due to its lightness and balance. I've improved it by re-springing the front forks, which are too soft as standard, also had the rear shock re-built and re-valved, added a Power Commander and race can, plus a steering damper, ready to take it on track as soon as this lockdown is over.

there is little between them, the 954 being a essentially a production bored out (and perhaps slightly stroked) version of the 929. If I recall, going off memeroy of long past motorcycle magazines of the era, the 954 didn't make much more power, but did have/has a deeper torque and midrange than the 929.

I had basically a brand new GSXR-750 at the time when the Fireblade 900 came out. A mate purchased one. We were side by side and about to overtake a bus and the Blade pulled away from me even though I went down two gears to keep up with it. He was still in top gear! Needless to say my next bike was a brand new Blade. Just wish I kept it. The younger riders of today just don’t realise how easy they have it with all the electronics!

It's 215hp and way better looking and has some insane tech apparently. Honda supposedly did a fantastic job on that bike. I think most Honda's are built to last, they just have that reputation. My 2013 Honda Civic Si has 170,000 + miles and still going strong, no problems. Garage kept, really nice condition. Well, I did just have to replace the radiator, but that's it other than wear and tear items. Honda makes great products. I'm also a Kawi boy though, I love my '19 Ninja 650, as my first motorcycle. @@tsubarider13 Hi, Its not economical on town driving but non the less okay for long runs. An example would be? I would normally cover 100 miles then look for fuel Top it up and that would average around £19.00. Fuel is expensive now no matter what vehicle is used. The 954, I have is my angel and no other bike will do. i am happy enough to keep running around on my blade forever. Ye that`s how much I like my bike. I look after it and it looks after me. As for possible faults? I replaced the rectifier on several occasions (All okay at first ) as it would either start giving out to much voltage or not enough. So I fixed this by re-positioning it to an area with better air flow. Never replaced it since. Passed. DIY: Maintenance: Change oil/filter every year without fail. All I can say is the bike you are thinking about purchasing is most likely been looked after and had regular oil changes. Good luck and let me know please if you decide on buying it. Best Regards. John.

Great video, thank you. I have a 2003 954 with 11k miles. Just waiting for winter to pass by in UK, so I can enjoy it again. I had a 1995 Urban Tiger for 5 years and I rode it throughout our winters and loved it. It seemed either lighter, or smaller than the 954. (or perhaps I am getting older !!). The only other bikes I found to be equally enjoyable were two Blackbirds, a 1997 and a 2005.

I need to ask you your opinion: I'm looking for my first sport bike, coming from a cruiser, and I was looking for a 600. But I just ran across a 2003 all stock, 9000 mile 954rr. Other than a scuff on the fairing, it looks fantastic- asking $5000. Now I'm 51 so not going to do crazy things but I'm concerned with lack of torque in 600 models. Does this seem like a fair asking price?

954 is not best Blade ever made.... Very far from it actually and i'm not being an asshole here, it's just an undeniable fact. If you are a TRUE Fireblade series enthusiast you probably know what impact SC28 made on world of superbikes. 954 is a decent bike and definitely worth of interest but the statement from the title of your video is very contrived. I get it though, it's KZbin and titles must be bold and catchy so fair play.

the 954 was never a 150hp bike... despite anything *claimed. matter fact, the lack of power is why it never won anything in its class. it was short on cc's and made more like 130hp. remember, by 2002 the GSXR 1000 had already come out (2001) and it was a *true 150+hp bike that became the standard.similar

I bought a brand spankin new CBR929RR,which basically has the same, identical engine and drivetrain. I modified mine of course, with a carbon-fiber slip-on (which at the time back then, was P-R-I-C-E-Y!!!) and I re-programmed my ECU with a significantly more aggressive Fuel-mapping (which again, back at that time, wasn't cheap EITHER!!!) yet, still was an extremely light bike for all the horsepower it had and yes..........there wasn't anything that could outrun me back then when I was riding it!!! Lol. Unfortunately..........an extremely jealous, needy ex-boyfriend of my girlfriend at that time, ended up stealing it right out of my garage (Because she'd always brag about how much fun she'd have riding it w/me when we'd go for rides and he hated hearing that)!!! :-( That's okay though, because I KNOW who took it,and alerted the police to it,and he's sitting in a prison cell right now, although he pushed my immaculately kept bike into the river,so that's what hurt the most!!! ~Peace~

man, what a cool video congratulations! I really liked it and those are the videos that when you end up wanting more. I love the CBRs I already had a 2007 CBR 600RR very light ... 155 kg dry but I had to sell. here in Brazil things cost a lot, to acquire r to maintain. I sold it at 600RR for 26 thousand reais. now i have a 600 F4i 2001, mint, 19 thousand kilometers. So I am very happy. but I confess that I spend my days looking at 954. pity that here in Brazil it is little known, has few copies. Those who have it ask for around 24 thousand reais. Above the f4i and below the 600RR 2007. Here it is difficult to find information about it ... all I know was seeing American and European forums, and videos ... but never a cool one like that. Now I'm even more crazy about the mythical 954. As for the blades 2004 onwards, there are a lot of them here ... but they cost more too. When I had the 600RT I rode a 2007 1000 blade and really felt heavy, clumsy compared to the 600 from the same year. of course, the 600RR 2007 is a generation ahead, as the 1000 updated in 2008 ... this one I never piloted, but they say it went back to being like the 954 ... light and strong. but the prices are even higher here. So 954 should definitely be near me ... And you confirmed what I love most about the 954 ... light weight, powerful enough, space under the seat, and comfort for one and even two. I'm going to enjoy the f4i a little, which is very good and has fresh mint, and as soon as I have the opportunity to get my hands on a 954 in excellent condition, I'll take it, because otherwise I'll spend my life thinking about it. Thanks for the video. that come more about 954.

European magazines I have read also praise the 954 for many of the reasons you mention. They think the 954 still has the ethos of the original 900RR, and the 1000, although fast and a good bike, does not ride like a fireblade.

Much enjoyed the video thank you keep up the good work and I really do wish Honda would go back and build the 954 again if I have to have 200 plus horsepower I need to buy a jet. One thing you did say and I think it was an error you said if you get in the twisties you might find yourself chasing their tail light and I think you meant vice-versa versa as I know the 954 was one of the lightest super bikes built and best handling everbilt ever and you could leave them over much farther in the curves than most people ever had the gonadical fortitude to even think about doing let alone actually lean it that much if you had some good tires under it God bless the 954. The 954 is a great bike no doubt but it will never compare to the 06-07 1krr. My first bike was a 929, I loved it light and nimble. Shortly after bought a 954 again, practically the same bike with a little more power, trunk space was awesome. Then I bought my 07 CBR1000 and holy fuck was it a night and day difference. It has nearly 30 more HP, honestly one of the best looking bikes of all time, mod market is pretty big, handles great, reliable, and has the more mid range TQ than any other 1000cc bike created in the last 10 years up until the newest 2020 RR. I bought my 07 blade back in 2014 and I still own it to this day with over 40k + hard miles, and I do NOT want to buy another bike other than the new 2020 CBR. It has withstood the test of time even with the newest bikes and I do not think I will ever get rid of it.

Great video!!! I can personally vouch for everything you've said! 👍
