Free Illustration Mini Workshop: www.thedrawing...
I have been using this idea to help me fit more art into my day and also to get better at meeting professional deadlines.
But there is more to it than that. It's not just a practical solution to staying focused. It also teaches you to get into creative flow and to quiet down the voices of doubt.
It helps us to see forward and focus on making things good enough. To try to do better in the time we have. As opposed to worrying about all the problems with your art.
This is a rough go the first few times you try it! So keep in mind it's not a quick fix.. but rather a technique for the long term. As you get better at practicing to creating things within a given time... you learn to optimise your process and get to certain points along the way at a particular time.
It's often this optimisation that helps to keep your drawings fresh and start to achieve a looseness and life that can be stifled by endless re-drawing.
Often we can go to great lengths to put ourselves under deadline pressure to get the focus we need to achieve our art or other tasks. Waiting until the last minute to do something is a great way to make sure we focus... the trick is to harness this focus and be able to use it at will... not just at the last minute.
Remember that creativity thrives under pressure!
Happy Drawing!
