How to fix the top 5 head construction drawing mistakes: www.thedrawingcodex.com/fixyo...
In this video I discuss the challenge of Drawing Everything. Often when we are starting out, or working on large projects the scope of work is so great... that it feels like around every corner there is something new to knock us off course.
The challenge is also to be able to re-draw these same objects and characters again and again. To have control of your drawing to the point where you can simply... draw all the things.
I use a book I drew back in 2014 (Pinocchio) to show you how I tackle some of these problems when I'm working on a project. I share my experience working on a book like this and talk about the specific challenges that came up when designing the large cast of characters.
There are a lot of shortcuts you can use. And ultimately it's about using a mix of solid structural while paying attention to the emotion of your characters, and the intent behind your drawings. The key is to remember that while we can learn a lot of solid drawing techniques... what really matters is how we apply these while still thinking of character.
Each drawing and each character and each project is unique. Which is why I address the specific challenges of the Pinocchio book. To draw everything we need to learn a lot about our world, and use it to create a new world on the page.
Happy Drawing!

Hey Tim, Just wanted to thank you for the incredible efforts and work you're pouring into the Drawing Codex. I've been a huge fan of your work for some time now and was beyond excited when I saw your blog about the launch of the codex. I've been thinking to get your "Drawing Scenes" package but as someone who draws directly from values I wasn't sure it was for me but recently I've been studying line art so perhaps I'll do at some point :) Thanks for the great efforts and I'm sure soon your KZbin channel will blow-up as well, there are very few artists on your caliber on KZbin.

Hey mkiller! Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate the support!! Lets hope 2022 can grow the channel a bit :) Yeah I think a lot of my courses so far are more focused on the line and color style. I will have some stuff out later in 2022 that focus on more basic drawing. And I will update the Drawing Scenes course this year to have a lot more content surrounding the drawing and planning phase (How to think about composing and organising scenes). That might make it slightly more useful. Just getting started! Best of luck with your art this year!

I recently acquired an old copy of the original Pinocchio book, with drawings by Carlo Chiostro (wonderful artist). What struck me most, and I was reminded of while watching this, is that in the original book there is no fox, it's a wolf! We were very surprised! I suspect the Disney film (or perhaps faulty translations?) may have influenced many people into going for a fox. 😅

for summary, incase i might mistaken the explanation , so correct me 1. what you need to know is anatomy foc the better but for more efficiency it's all about the structure, form and how they move 2. you don't need to go detail proportion for your character all the time, imitate the closest thing you can do as comic artist
