I get that feeling that Trapper was naturally over shadowing Hawkeye's character and they were holding him back so to keep him as the Hawkeye's side kick. It's too bad because MASH wasn't the same after he left.

I think because Wayne Rogers is a staunch Republican conservative . And Alda is a Leftist Democrat and didn’t get along ! MASH turned into a boring drama! It had no comedy ! The final episode was a total serious bore !!!
