I've been running an optic on my Benelli for years. Running a truglo gobble stopper at the moment and it comes with reticle or dot in green or red. Not vortex quality but has features that vortex doesn't have yet.

I hunted with bead all those years. Last year I had one red dot extra so I added to my shotgun. A gobbler came close but for some reason he didn’t like the decoy setup and made a run for in the woods. Without that red dot, it was kinda impossible to make that long shot between trees . It helped a lot to quickly put the dot on him and bang . Like we deer hunters say “ didn’t go twenty “😄

You mention drilling and taping receivers. Check this out: I have a 3 MOA Venom on my Maxus. Which I had to drill and tap the receiver and use the rail Browning came out with last year for them. Perfect fit. I have a 3 MOA Razor on my Stoeger M3500. However, I milled the bottom edges of that rail so the center would fit down in the receiver grove because no one makes a rail that actually fits, just the holes line up. Having red dots gets you on target way faster than using the bead and aligning the barrel. The effort I put into them is well wort it.

@@VortexOpticsUSA Got my limit of two. One at 34 yards, and the other 122 miles away (as the crow flies) at 52 yards. I used the Stoeger M3500 with the razor on it for both. Had to hunt a different Unit for the second one.

So I bought an Eotech Exps3 for my AR last fall. I decided it’s going on the Turkey gun for spring Turkey otherwise it’s just going to sit and not be used. Can’t wait to let it eat!!

The reflex are much, much safer. Hunted with guys who used small 1x scopes when the red dot craze started…very dangerous if you’re hunting with others to occlude your field of view.

I just added a reflex to my shotgun and the field of view is obscurred at the bottom by the barrel and front sight. Is going with a higher mount the only way to avoid this?

What about the barrels with a cantilever scope mount? Just as good as the other mounting options mentioned? I've got a Remington smooth bore slug barrel I was thinking would be nice and short and maneuverable for hunting in ground blind. Just got move my turkey choke over and add red dot.

I have cantilever barreled guns and have a few dislikes. The optic runs high and you need a cheap riser to see. The cantilever has a lot of flex I get a better group with a receiver mounted optic with my 20 gauge at 100 yards. The thing I love about my cantilever barrel is it says zero when I take the barrel of to hunt rabbits or birds. With a cantilever you can use on gun for everything because you don’t have to remove a optic to shoot flying animals

I have been trying to get a bird for 8 years now. I can't afford a hunt club and have to depend on a quota on public land. Some years I get a quota some years I don't. I have a nice red dot but never have anywhere to shoot.

What if you have stigmatism? Red dots don't work I have a Stevens model 301.. But the rail is short and high. Need a picatinny rail for a scope.

Ive killed over a dozen turkeys at 45 to 55 yards with nothing but a front and mid bead. Im not against red dot, but 46 yards isnt justification for a dot when you can do that with a dual bead set up that is more intuitive

@@whiteyfisk9769 it is when you have someone that can’t focus on two sights and a bird because of vision problems. Old man was struggling until he got a red dot. He’s back in the woods and got 2 birds this past season

@@caseylyon6262 youre not supposed to focus on the sights anyway. Focus on the birds head, put the sight on his head and pull the trigger. Yes if you try to focus on the bead and put it on the turkeys head youre gonna have problems. I cant focus on open sights at all, this is the method i use and have very good luck. Missed my first bird in over 9 years this year.

@J_ the fact that with a bead I have to close my non dominant eye to be able to see the bead but with a red dot/ holographic sight I can keep both eyes open and also be able to aim
