Speed bead and venom combo here. I’ve ran it for years. I’ll never go back. Hit percentage went way up on waterfowl. The built in parallax setting allows for non perfect form when sitting up quickly to make shots. Meaning you don’t necessarily need your head perfectly down on the stock to be accurate. Only negative is rainy weather and keeping the glass clean.

Yeah. I agree. I have noticed this year doing more field hunting that it's much harder to use in fields. Especially when it's rainy and muddy. If I'm hunting over water even in the rain I have had very few issues. Just seems to be field hunting in the kryptonite

I had a shotkam for a while and thought how good it would be if you could see the dot whilst shooting as opposed to viewing clips afterwards. Here it is ! I also like the ethical argument you put forward about achieving a clean kill.

I shoot Skeet, Sporting Clays and Trap competitions. I shoot both eyes open because you can process your target easier and faster with both open, shooting with one eye put me at a disadvantage. I shoot upper 90s most of my competitions. It takes adjusting but is way better. I also shoot a lot of birds so it transfers well

When I was growing up, and we went hunting we had no idea what we were doing. And so, with that being the case, I wasn't educated in shooting with both eyes open and formed bad habits early. I wish that I hadn't. But the red dot sight does make it easier for me to shoot with both open. And I'm grateful for that. Thanks for your comment and expertise. I appreciate it!

Yes. This would work well for deer hunting. It doesn't have any magnification so expect some close range shooting. But unless you have a rifled barrel on your shotgun it'll be under 70 yards anyway.

So is it possible to get a speed bead for a supernova nowadays? And what’s your thoughts on holosun
@final_fall
@final_fall Жыл бұрын
They do make a speed bead for a supernova so it's definitely possible. I have no personal experience with holosun sights. It seems like they have good reviews and are not made for airsoft or pellet guns. They are made for actual firearms. Which is obviously important because it has to be able to hold zero while withstanding a decent amount of kick. Especially on a shotgun. So I think it's a good option. The only reason I would not buy a holosun, is they do not have a no questions asked lifetime warranty like vortex or Burris optics. And that is HUGELY important. Especially if you are going to use this for waterfowl. Waterfowl hunting is notoriously hard on gear and guns. If you break it, you want the piece of mind you can send it in and have it replaced for free. So, because it's about the same price as the vortex venom, which I have been using all year and I am loving, I would recommend getting a vortex over the holosun just because of the warranty. Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it! Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already!

we are almost done yet. I have two more goose hunts and I'll be done with the bulk of waterfowl because it ends on the 31st. But to answer your question, yes and no. It was slightly problematic on rainy days. As the glass gets rain on it and you're constantly cleaning it. But even with rain on the sight it still worked, just wasn't as easy to see through. I was still able to kill birds though. The rain did not damage the sight, and it still worked. Just was a hassle to keep clean. I do really like it though. I feel like shoot better with it as shouldering my gun is much easier with it.

Yeah that’s what I meant. Good to know. You should make a follow up video about it. I’m going to try it this year in WA. I’m sure I’m not the guy out there thinking about trying a red dot for ducks this year and there’s not a lot of videos about it besides yours. I’ve got a Nova but I just got a CZ Turkey Reaper over/under that came with a rail. I’ve got a 3 MOA and a 6 MOA Venom that I can put on it. I got it for turkey and deer but I’m thinking about changing out the chokes and taking it duck hunting instead of my Nova. Can’t decide on what I’m gonna do that’s why I watch your video. Seems to make a lot of sense to me. I shoot red dots well. I think you made a good point in this video when you said 2 eyes open. Most people don’t do that and they complain about the dot looking broken up. Good video good advice thanks man
@final_fall
@final_fall 11 ай бұрын
@philiptrump8472 yeah I have made a brief one last year about it and just filmed a new update but haven't gotten it put up yet. I'm hoping to get it up this week. I definitely like it. I feel like it has actually made my instinctual shooting better as I'm not focused on making sure I have a good sight with my bead. I didn't realize how much I actually had to adjust my head and pull before I shot at Ducks before. And now I don't do that. I pull to shoulder and my red dot is there ready to lead and shoot. It's made me more accurate and I've been able to take shots at longer distances with better success.

Really wanting the Burris style one but have a sx4. thought about just buying a shotgun that is compatible with it. You guys still running red dots?
@final_fall
@final_fall 11 ай бұрын
We are yes. I actually think having farther from the eye using the meadow creek mount is preferable though based on my opinion and how Eric feels about his Burris speed bead. Burris has stopped making the speed bead. Or at least they aren't making it in any new styles. So I wouldn't go and buy a gun just to get a speed bead. I initially thought the speed bead would be better, but my opinion has changed and I think the meadow creek mount is the superior mount in my opinion. And it costs less.
@danielholder511
@danielholder511 11 ай бұрын
@@final_fall that’s interesting. Figured the closer the optic the better of a FOV you would have resulting in easier more accurate use.
@final_fall
@final_fall 11 ай бұрын
@danielholder511 You are correct that the field of view is larger with it that close to your face. But it also has a propensity to fog up in colder weather. The speed bead definitely looks cooler too. But I have gotten really used to my red dot and it's made my shooting much more reflexive and and made me a better shot. I'm sure with either the meadow Creek Mount or the speed bead, you'll get to the point it feels really natural. But I'm glad I have my mount where it is now.
@danielholder511

@@final_fall gotcha. What red dot would you recommended? Also thought about if I could just drill and tap my receiver and direct mount a red dot haha. Or just order and modify a sx3 Burris mount
@final_fall
@final_fall 11 ай бұрын
You could do either of those to mount it. A drill and tapped receiver would be perfect I think. I wish mine had a tapped receiver. And I'm not sure if the sx3 one is compatible. @final_fall
@final_fall 2 жыл бұрын
It depends. I think there are advantages to the red dot sight. And ultimately I started looking into it for my Dad who has bad eyes and has trouble lining up his shots properly. So it might help you out. There is a learning curve when using it. But ultimately I'm liking it.
@eduffy4937

Not trying to be a troll here, but whats the difference between a sight bead at the muzzle and a speed bead at the breech? Both point where the shot is going, or is there sometjong im missing?
@final_fall
@final_fall 2 жыл бұрын
No. You're not wrong. They do both point where the shot is going. The difference is how you get there. For example, as my dad ages his ability to properly pull his shotgun to shoulder and line up a shot properly has been more and more difficult. This has gotten to the point that he is discouraged to go hunting because he feels like he can't hit anything with a bead. Because with a bead, you have to pull correctly, make sure your looking down the gun properly before you shoot. And my dad struggles to do that now. The red dot eliminates that problem. With a red dot, no matter how you pull to shoulder, if you can see the dot, and put it on target you will hit it. The red dot can be in the corner of the lense, and if you put the dot on, you'll hit it. This ultimately makes you more accurate and could potentially give you faster target aquistion. On top of this, you don't really focus on the dot, because when looking through the lense, it in a way projects the dot out into the plane the ducks are at which makes it seem like the dot is floating out there in front of the bird. And that helps with your accuracy as well. This is our first season running them. And the jury is still out. But so far I am liking mine. Eric has had mixed results with his.

@@final_fall just a cheap red dot is what i thought it was. Paralax free allows you to move your head and the dot stay at point of impact whereas a cheap one moves the dot all over when you move your eye
@final_fall
@final_fall 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. The cheap ones also won't hold zero during recoil. So you have to buy one that's a little more sturdy and having one with the lifetime no questions warranty is helpful because duck hunting is hard on gear. After a while your brain just knows where to put the barrel when you are focusing on the target.
