Same here. My 2002 Mini was written off and I bought a cheap runaround until I could find a replacement Mini. Am now the proud owner of a 2001 Mini Cooper that I love. And no, I didn't consider 2nd or 3rd generation Mini as I really dont like them (hate 2nd Gens actually) so my replacement had to be a 1st Gen which are hard to find in good condition in tbe UK.

When I went into my Mini Dealer to buy my 2016 Mini Cooper S in Melting Silver, the the young lady in the financial department had a picture of her Clubman. She was T-Boned by a reckless teenager, she walked away with no injuries and that picture serves as a reminder of the safety and reliability of Mini Cooper. To me it served as proof that even the Mini Team drives Mini vehicles. It gives me piece of mind, because you can go to a Honda Dealer, or Toyota, but often times you will notice the people working there don't buy the vehicles for their own households.

I bought a 2018 Cooper (F57) convertible once the Consumer Reports magazine started showing all green (good) on reliability, etc. They are an absolute blast to drive. I have made purchases in the past where I felt let down - the idea of the product was better than the reality, but the opposite has been true for my Mini - it was better than I had imagined. I bought the Cooper (3 cylinders VS 4 cylinders for the "S") because it had plenty of zip and better mileage than the four cylinder vehicles. I will probably own a Mini from now on.

Thank you for the informative video. I am a Mini lover and I have a 2022, but I cannot help but not think about all of the issues Mini had when they first came out in the early 2000's. Reliability hasn't always been there until recently and I think people are getting confused with people not maintaining their car versus real mechanical faulty issues. Just all in my opinion.
@maniphonep3 жыл бұрын
I'll add to this; you should buy a Mini if you can afford one. I am sure many people love it, but don't have the resources...I will agree, they are great little cars.
@ocramidajzj2 жыл бұрын
I think you hit the nail on the head. Many people don't realize that maintenance is required and, unless you are a DIYer owning a Mini can get expensive. I also think Mini/BMW get criticism on reliability/longevity with things like extended oil change intervals and "lifetime" tranny fluid. I own a F57 and F54, both sticks and both 2016 models and they have been great cars for the last 3 years. I change oil and filter at 6 months or 5K and changed out the tranny and brake fluid every 20K. They both have tons of personality and are a blast to drive. My Clubman is also practical enough for anything I thrown at it. My only regret is that I did not get into Mini sooner. Can't think of a car that packs so much value and personality in one package. But you can't treat them like an appliance from Toyota. These wonderful cars need to be treated with care and they will pay you back with smiles on every drive. Very underrated products. My only question, where did you find Mini was number 3 in reliability?

You sir, are 100% correct on MINI. I had not considered a MINI, and was very skeptical, but my wife has wanted one for many years. When it was time to replace my car I was looking at all options but MINI, I even put a deposit on a new Canyon AT4X that's coming in 2023...spring...maybe. I stopped by the MINI dealer by on a whim and ended up purchasing a Countryman S that night for my wife with the intent I'd take her car until my truck arrived. I now do not want to give it back. Three months later and I've cancelled my truck and ordered a custom Clubman JCW that is slated to arrive January or February. I was able to test drive a used 2022, and WOAH! She is a beautiful beast in regular drive mode, and really makes the heart pump from her roar when in sport and sport+ modes. I can't wait to get mine and really open her up on some curves and a track. Green mode in the Countryman S we hit 40+ MPG and daily mixed driving runs around 22 MPG (19 MPG when I drive it). We are now a MINI family, and I'm so happy I stopped to check them out. I'll still be looking for a truck, but I'll be happy with an old beater for backcountry and off-road fun that I won't care if it gets further beat up.

I absolutely love minis. My dream cars. I personally would be content with a mini than any super car, cause that’s not really my thing. My last mini before my current one was a brand new 2020 4 door Cooper S. Had it for a short while and after it’s first oil change there was a drivetrain malfunction and I had to get it towed back to the mini dealership. They gave me a rental for free and I waited weeks to get my car back. They never found out what was wrong with it, I just traded it back in for a different mini cause I was tired of not having my car. I have an engineering friend who went to work an internship at that mini dealer and he told me they still have that car there, they have no idea what’s wrong with it. Really weird. I agree with Miniac that the MINI Cooper is a great little car. However, from what source did he get the information that the “MINI Cooper is the car with the third highest reliability rating after Toyota and Honda?” It’s true that the MINI has improved its reliability substantially compared to the first and second generations but the last time I checked with Consumer Report the MINI Cooper is average in terms of reliability compared with other vehicle brands sold in the United States. The MINI Cooper is in my short list of cars that I’m considering to buy. Some drawbacks of the MINI Cooper 2-door and 4-door hardtops (the only types I would consider buying) is the lack of rear passenger room and small trunk space compared to other cars in its class.

@@TheMINIac there’s too many options to label one car as ‘the best’ under a price bracket . You aren’t lying about the community though. I love minis owned a few but my last one I needed a few repairs and mini does not share what the codes mean! They are not supporting there product ethically

You can find the codes online relatively easily.

do you think the cooper s is a good first car for a teen?
@haythamibrahim60644 жыл бұрын
Excuse me, it isn't. The 1.5 turbo seems to be more than enough for a teen to enjoy some sporty driving without being tempted to get themselves hurt, or even worse.

If they would stand behind their product, I'd buy another one. Whenever Mini has had trend issues, oil leaks, mushrooming strut mounts, water pumps going bad, auto trans issues. I've seen it all but Mini USA always says they have never heard of these issues but go to the forums and see the issues trending everywhere. Also, minis are so overpriced when new. Fun & quirky sure but problem riddled and expensive to repair. No thanks.

@@TheMINIac I will agree all cars have issues, but at different points in time. We all know Mini had lots of issues like you said earlier on in gen. 1 and 2. I hate to hear that it all depends on who you work with to make things right on the dealership, sale, etc, but it is what it is. Yes, cars are expensive in general, but a Mini doesn't fit everyones lifestyle if you just look at dollars, example a truck cost just as much as the tiny thing we love so much.

lol that was not a Scotty jab at all. So one of the points he made was the engine bay and how tight it is. Do you find this being a problem in mechanic bills?

So based on past engineering failures that resulted in serious reliability issues in Gen 1&2 somehow you derive that Gen3 avoids all of that. Your reasoning lacks substance. And for the record, the old Toyota Supras were sports car versions of the Celica. They were extraordinarily successful because of their performance, and their rock solid reliability engineering. Your diatribe is reminiscent of a car salesman, "pay no attn to that broken vehicle, on fire, on the side of the road! Look over here, it's shiny and new" LOL, all cars have some sort of issue, but if you want a long term solution, continuous improvement reliability engineering has to be baked in. That's what Toyota is famous for, and thats how it's done.i live my R53 Mini, but I have been through engine, suspension, transmission, cooling and electrical. I have done a number of repairs. The result of that is a hands on knowledge that it was not designed to be easily repaired and there were a lot of cut corners where it would have been easy to make very obvious reliability gains. Dont be a salesman that lies, be one that up front let's the customer know the short and long term cost of owning the car.....

@@TheMINIac To be fair, the 2017 are only 3 years old so they shouldn't be having any serious issues at that age.

Details, I want details. Everything Miniac has stated is based on his opinion. I want objective and not subjective information. Every Mini owner I know has had to have his car towed because of a breakdown on the side of the road. It's a beautiful car that handles fantastically. But.......
