In germany kohlrabi is very popular! My favorite way to use it is in chicken soup! Cut in small cubes and cook like carrots or potatoes in your hearty soup, it gives such a wellrounded umami flavour and does not taste like cabbage at all! Its also a great substitute for celery if thats too intense for you 😉 in a salad its super crunchy in small strips! Its also great for a low calorie snack when you crave something salty&crunchy 👍

In Iran, in a city called Shiraz (just like the wine), we make a very delicious and popular food with kohlrabi. It's called Kalam Polo Shirazi. It's a mixture of Kohlrabi fries, spices, minced meat, rice, basil, leek, tarragon, butter and lemon juice. It's amazing. 😋😋😋😋😋

What's a victory garden?
@Catalina-Winemixer
@Catalina-Winemixer 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexs5574 Victory gardens were home gardens women would keep during WW1&2 when there was a shortage of basically everything. The idea was to get as much fruit and veg to the boys fighting on the frontline as possible; rations were scarce, if you wanted butter or extra eggs you’d have to buy them on the black market. It became a way to supplement diets.

Fun fact: kohlrabi is considered a potato replacement because the carbohydrates are a fraction of potatoes, and they cook up even better than potatoes because they hold their shape better and don't get all mushy. Great for stews and roasting. Try it! ☺️
