A true story that's funny is a friend of mine had constant problems with a tractor he purchased new and this tractor company was giving him the run around with their warranty, so he got a booth near the front entrance of a big farm and agriculture show and had his tractor in the booth with 300 lemons on top of it. You would not believe how fast his phone started ringing if I told you. Made in the USA used to mean something and you now have products from China that is better.

Ugh! I feel ya brother! You hit the nail on the head. Customer Service and Quality are superpowers that no longer exist. Anymore, I just go through everything when I buy parts because I don't trust ANY manufacturer to do a good job. Hope it all gets straightened out and use this as a learning experience. Keep Jeepin and God Bless!

Thanks for sharing. I've been following a bit as I'm thinking of putting a stroker in my otherwise stock daily driver 05 LJ. I'd already ruled out the Edelbrock head as I'm wanting to keep the engine cast iron as much as I can. At this point, I'm thinking to just build my own stroker. I'm a retired diesel mechanic so building engines are nothing new for me. Edited to add. I want applaud you for getting the word out on companies that are showing a decided lack of quality control or willingness to QC or stand behind their products. I used to think a lot of Edelbrock products, but apparently they are no longer the company that they used to be. I think too many companies watch us buy chinesium junk and figure they can they can use the same business model.
@65SEEJAYFIVE

Yeah if I had to do it over, I’d do it all myself. Edelbrock as a whole is probably still a good company, but just like everywhere else, they are more concerned about getting product out than giving quality products.

Oh man I really feel for you. Found you by looking for info on these stroker engines. I have an '05 with 138k miles and it's running great. But is kind of a dog running up inclines. It's my rock crawler. I'm on 35x12.50-15 and 5.13 gearing. Crawls great and runs great. Just want more power for when I drive it to the trails rather than tow it. My thought is to go with a chevy short block 350 or something similar. But the drop in aspect of a 4.6L from Golen is tempting. Buuuuut, what made me comment is what you're going through. I'm 63 and over the past few years I've come to the realization that you Rarely get good quality or service, in Anything. It didn't used to be like this. But anything I buy, or any service I need, I just know nothing will go right. General public just don't give a darn about what they do. No respect for a job well done. It's a damn shame.
@mudpro200

I'm in the same boat with you that everything with my stock Jeep engine is fine, I just would like a little more power. It's is a shame that made in the USA use to mean something as well as hand shake between men did as well. Today some USA products are worse than China products and you have businesses now that brag about getting over on some one instead of having a conscience about how they feel as a man or company with integrity and being able to walk with their head high. I have no idea what direction to go with an engine in fear of choosing the wrong company to do busyness with. It's just crazy anymore.

"Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of building a Stroker for my WJ and I was considering getting the Edelbrock head instead of port-matching a stock head. However, I think I will stick with port matching at this point. S&J seems to be a bunch of D-bags. I contacted them when I started trying to figure out casting numbers to build a Stroker motor with the 4.2 crank and my block since my block was supposed to have better casting. But they told me to stop wasting their time and buy their motor. I'm glad I haven't. This is one of the companies I found that seem to be pretty decent, especially if you're just asking questions. He holds the current record for the highest output on a 4.7 Turbo motor: Newcomer Racing."

I feel ya on the quality control bit and customer support. But Sadly I think you made a mistake going with the Aluminum head, Aluminum heads on a Cast Iron block just don't have good track record IMHO. I think you'd have better gone and got a 0630 or 7120 head and have a machine shop port it. You'd have as good or better performance, and far less issues with expansion problems... Which is what happened there, and I think you'll do yourself some favors to check those plugs often. The aluminum will expand at a much higher rate than the steel plugs and I'd be surprised to find ANY sealant that keeps the water and oil from mixing with enough heat cycles. (this is all basically conjecture since I have not run the aluminum heads on a 4.0l just seems to me like a bad idea) Find a good local machine shop or hot rod shop and get a 7120 or 0630 ported and polished, have some one Tig on some coil pack holders and call it a day. :-P Hope I'm wrong and you have years of great wheeling with your fresh motor and top end!...

This is just custom motor type issues. Built engines can be great or can be troublesome. Custom built 6.4 diesel was junk but the stock one was going great at 252k. My stroker has been in my LJ for 10yrs now. Built by me in my garage and has a Kenne Bell supercharger. Besides a valve cover leak and a harmonic balancer…. It’s been bombproof. I’ve had street car engines sprayed to death and were super reliable, I’ve had cam swaps that turned to junk. Anything 4x4 will have you with tools in your hand especially if running trails.

Quality control means nothing these days. If you want something done right, you need to do it yourself. Nobody else stands behind their work or their products, and will actually do the opposite and lie and push the blame off of themselves as much as possible. I actually trust used good condition factory parts more than anything "new" or "rebuilt". It is a process, but you'll get the kinks worked out of this engine and everything will be good. The reply from Edelbrock is laughable. "We screwed up, so here is some merch so you can advertise for us." LOL they can kick rocks.

@@65SEEJAYFIVE It why we should go with reputable local shops. When a person is dealing with an economy of scale on the national and international level…theyre going to famr shit out to the lowest bidder, not really care about their name or rep, and find 2/3rds good reviews acceptable. I doubt a single edelbrock is involved with the company anymore. Their CEO is chris douglas lol. A local company is most likely still run by the person who put their blood sweat and tears into starting it…and their whole business is usually local or regional, so they cant afford to do a crap job if they want to stay open. I think for this whole job you shouldve went with a local engine builder of good repute. You might reply “sure, but that was more money than i wanted to spend”….and more understanding i could not be….but id reply “then it sounds like maybe a stroker swap wasnt in the budget yet for you” I ONLY point that fact out for future people reading this, considering the same thing. Aftermarket custom engine swaps are usually done by people whom know how to do them and fix their problems by hand on their own…or theyre done by extremely rich men whom pay someone to deal with the headaches and iron out the kinks. There will be kinks.

Even Boeing cant get their QC right. What a degradation in American manufacturing.
@Faq-ubeach
@Faq-ubeach 10 ай бұрын
True. One issue is that for most things, its not american manufacturing. Its american corporate structuring and greed…but also cheap labor and materials. I bet his edelbrock head came from china. Parts for the stroker build probably also came from poorer countries that we take advantage for cheap low quality labor and parts. I find that anymore the only american quality left comes from reputable small local older businesses. Take edelbrock for example. The family isnt producing the parts anymore, or doing the custom work. Its a numbers business to them. They ship on such a huge level that theyre okay with 1/4th of the parts being crap and being returned or warranties etc. a handful of bad reviews are not going your way take them down. Contrast that with a local family run starter rebuild shop or driveshaft shop. Theyre not doing business on a national or international level. All they have is local or regional business. They wouldnt have survived the 30 years theyve been open if 1/4th of their work was poorer. I feel bad for this guy, but he really should have done his research and maybe have had this engine build and swap done locally with someone reputable. I mean a job like an engine build is 100% WHO is building it. The person building it chooses the parts, assembles them etc.
