As a New Yorker, bodegas are not just a staple in NYC, but the metro area as well. I lived in Jersey City for a few years before moving back to NY, and there are plenty of bodegas there as well in The Heights. What makes bodegas special are the charm and the affordability (typically) for the average person living in some of the most expensive areas anywhere. And it's a true bodega if there's a cat around.

My dad who is originally from Brooklyn has even told me that the two most popular NY sandwiches are a baconeggandcheese on a roll (apparently us NYers consider it as one word) and a chopped cheese. I’ve personally never had a chopped cheese before, but I’m definitely gonna try it soon.

I tried the BE&C this exact same way the ocky way and guys, it's worth the money. Even when cut in half these things are HUGE! I'm a big guy with a big appetite and I was full when I was done with my half. So say my half was $9, typical bacon egg and cheese is anywhere from 3 to 5 bucks depending where you go, if you get a side of mozzarella sticks that costs another 4-5 bucks, and this guy puts enough bacon for 3 or 4 sandwiches you get anywhere else. If you go there go there with a friend and split it, totally worth it. Ocky is magic!

I love how eclectic NYC is and how the people seem to embrace diversity. I love that they have so many "mom n pap" food spots with original flavors and secret recipes. I'm not knocking all the big franchise chain food spots but these little ones tend to have some of the best tasting most creative menu. Years ago I went restaurant hopping with some relatives and literally visited 4 different spots on the same street and enjoyed a taste off each menu, we don't have that luxury in my city for a variety of reasons.

NYC definitely isn't a perfect city (their subway has seen better days, while ours has chandeliers), but I'll give it to them that their bodegas are culturally significant. My go to at the bodega is a chopped cheese on a hero... salt pepper vinegar on the lettuce and tomatoes with pepper jack cheese..ketchup and mayo. For breakfast it's a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese. Life long New Yorker here.

I don't eat bacon and eggs but I enjoyed video. The little mom and pop places are great - it what keeps a neighborhood interesting. Big thumbs up I think you will hit 300K subs before the end of the month. Plus it's great you share other links and hosts. You both benefit more exposure to an audience with the algorithm. I'm on a long bus ride back home to NYC so I'm just going watch a marathon of your videos.

I’m from Columbus OH and I lived in New Rochelle NY for a year and I must say I miss those deli’s since moving back home, miss going in there at 3 in the morning and picking up a roast beef or bacon m, egg, and cheese sandwich, something we can’t do with deli’s here cause they’re closed by 9pm. One thing Columbus has that NY doesn’t have tho are drive thru’s.

I wanted to open a restaurant since I was young. I've cooked for years and I've got the skill to succeed but coming up with monet to start is the problem but this really inspires me to push and try to make it happen. I honestly should have done it long ago but there was no social media then so it was much harder to spread the word.
