The scene where he lays in bed after the decap floored me. Hearing the mother and father saying goodbye and listening to her go to the car knowing what she'll find but only seeing his face is a stroke of genius.

@HauntedHippie the scariest scenes in the movie aren't the "scary" scenes. It ls the subtle dread that makes the movie a masterpeice. Tony Collettes wailing and writhing after this scene are etched into my subconscious.

I remember feeling shocked at Charlie's death as she was featured heavily in the advertising, so like Peter's character I was in complete in denial the whole time. Not to mention the only time I saw Peter's character in the trailer was the classroom screen so I thought he was going to die first.

V cool to see and hear how everyone involved really was fully onboard, passionate and gave their all to deliver an excellent piece of work all round. I always find that inspiring. As regards Ari's comments about not being a fan of horror, i kind of took it as him not being a fan of certain tropes, how predictable a lot of the genre has become, maybe certain elements/sub genres etc, which seems totally reasonable. Midsommar obviously showed that he must be a fan of The Wicker Man 🤷

This is my favourite film of his. When that decapitation scene came...Ok movie, you have my attention. I'm glad King Paimo didn't show up as a giant CGI creature. Ari did a good job of making you feel Paimon's presence throughout the film.

An actor willing to commit murder to be able to work with a certain script, story, or director sounds like a Tales From the Crypt type story(or something similar, actor kill for a part, etc) or could be a fun horror short for the up and coming filmmakers out there...

This one is so up my alley gurl! I was terrified (yet fascinated) by horror as a kid; but as adult I’d been so hard to scare, and Hereditary was the first one to ACTUALLY terrify me. Even more wild for me is that it’s a supernatural horror, bc that tends to scare me wayyyy less. I’ll be watching this while I make some shrimp, thanks henny ❤️🏳️‍🌈! I’m a bad Jew, I know 🙂‍↕️

even back in 2018 when I saw this I was a huge horror fan, I wasn't a part of the general audience so to speak, but I probably have never had a more visceral moment in a movie than Charlie's beheading. I was so deeply disturbed by this, I legitimately had nightmares for weeks after my viewing and I kept seeing people hiding in the shadows of my apartment at night lol I didn't give the film a rating, I hated the experience but I recognized it was a well crafted and masterfully done. At the time I told myself it's a film I'd never watch again but I think enough time has passed and I've had enough traumatic experiences of my own since then I think I'd have a more enjoyable go around on a re-watch. anyway, great deep dive as always Kylie, thanks!

Nice.. Hereditary is great for so many different reasons although it's not one I usually look forward to rewatching that often.. I respect the pure dread from beginning to end and the performances are great.. Annie banging her head on that attic door is legit one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen lmao..

Agreed, it’s most similar to Requiem for a Dream for me as one of the most terrifying/disturbing things I’ve ever watched, but that I don’t (can’t?) ever really rewatch usually bc of how deeply it distresses me!

@@Wraiven22 yeah Requiem for a Dream is no joke, but for me personally it's just too good of a film and I usually look forward to watching it once in awhile, Ellen Burstyn gave a horror performance for the ages!

I remember first hearing about hereditary through word of mouth before I saw any trailers and I was gobsmacked when I first saw it! It deeply disturbed me in a way I hadn’t been in a long time! I feel the whole losing your whole family thing was kinda too easy to make a sense of dread but I was impressed how he was able to craft the story. I’ve been meaning to check out the cook, the thief, his wife and her lover! Sounds interesting and I love when non horror can influence new horror stories! This is cast was amazing even after they already had established acting careers but Ari is the real breakout star! I’m jealous that he came from an artist family background. I feel like a lot of creatives have that in common and makes you think you have to have that to succeed. I wish I had that lol Your deep dives never fail to impress me! You have to be the best source of Ari Aster on the internet! Also love how much music is important to you just like me! Wish I was able to click with my tongue lol Thank you my dark mistress!

As someone who did a lot of acting in high school, that so deeply wanted to pursue it, I loved it so much… but I have very Jewish parents that wanted me to go to medical/law school. It has actually made me feel so much more at peace realizing that almost every actor you see in these bigger movies/roles nowadays are from either wealthy or very connected families. According to people in the field, something changed somewhat recently where the suits demand hiring well known actors bc I guess it makes the investors feel safer, and now it’s almost impossible to break through 😞

Hey Kylie im new to ur channel i jus subscribed today i loved ur take on Evil Dead Rise i saw it in theaters such a brutal bloody movie i agree its definitely better than the remake/reboot of Evil Dead. I loved alyssa sutherland as Ellie she is definitely a horror movie Queen now that movie is definitely not for those who cant handle gore did u know that when Ellie bites the guy's eye out thats Bruce Campbell btiing into an apple 🍎. My favorite horor movie has to be The Curse Of La Llorona knowing the legend makes that movie so much scarier & better i love the tie in wit Annabelle also.
