Heretic - first episode on max difficulty (100% secrets)

NOTE: this is an old video. For an updated, a lot better version check this one out: • Heretic - "City of the...
"City of the damned" single-segmented playthrough in "Black plage possesses thee" skill (max difficulty), getting 100% secrets in every level.
For my surprise, I was able to complete the episode on the first try, even not having studied the levels previously (hehe, my memory serves me well). I didn't like the playing though, so I studied the levels and re-ran it until I was happy with the result. Hope you enjoy it!
Note that sometimes it looks like I stood still for no reason: it's because I'm struggling with the mousewheel trying to select an item from the inventory :P

As far as I love Doom, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake, this is my favorite classic FPS of all time. So much time spent and good memories with this. Sadly, miserably underrated then and now. The music will be forever sublime in this game.

@@Fernito I've just discovered it and sure it looks great, like Heretic/Hexen with updated graphics. Tho honestly I still love the original Doom engine, to me they still look sweet and aged very well. But certainly I wanna play Amid Evil after seeing its footage, we don't have much stuff like that anymore.

I went back to this and Descent after 15 or so years. Both games I played so much as a kid. Now that I'm 29, I felt so sluggish compared to my kid self who would blaze around the map with just a keyboard lol (our old PC's mouse was broken and those were tight times to afford a new one). The charm and nostalgia were all there though and I especially loved how I would still get a gut feeling, like a sixth sense, whenever there was a secret area nearby. I still remember some sure but I get a goofy grin when I just follow my gut feeling towards a secret room/wall that I don't remember now but always did as a kid.

I like the fact that initially he uses the gauntlets of necromancer to pool those usual weapon's ammo. Risky but strategic.

I wish this game got the same love as Doom. Once I get through Doom II and 3 I think i might revisit this classic as well. Either that or another playthrough of Quake II and its expansions.

I know it's been 3 months but I just wanted to say, you are correct about the 35 frames per second. That's actually the rate at which the game is hardcoded to update. All game actions are performed in 1/35th second packets called tics. All games in the DOOM engine have this ticrate hard-coded. Modern source ports allow higher framerates for smoother display, and interpolate player and projectile movement, but the game logic is still locked to 35 FPS.

This game is so cool, need more stuff for it ! A nextgen game, with some nice cutscene about the story of the serpent riders and the heroes, could be cool but the gameplay must be like the same, with some add, fast and fast paced but i can dream. Heretic forever ! Hexen is very good but i prefer the heretic gamepaly :3 but shadow wood

haha yeah, it looks cool! It doesn't make too much damage though, and it wastes ammo like hell, so I never use it.

NO 1 does a playtrough when a player plays on max diffelculty and get NO secrets to help you out+ you need to kill all monsters + keyboard only, no mouse:) Now Thats fun. Cuz I've tried it, a fun challange:)

I didnt know that necrogauntlets can absorb health. But in nightmare, monsters cant respawn?

The highest difficulty in Heretic is equivalent to Doom's UV + fast monsters, so yeah, no respawn :)

@@Fernito Luckily the situation with Wolf 3D is been better. Since end of 2019 it is free to purchase in germany - uncut. But Star Wars Dark Forces, Heretic, Hexen, Return to castle wolfenstein, Postal-Games 1 and 2 and Mortal Kombat 1 - 4 are still forbidden. But the situation is going to be better and better and many horror-movies are finally free to purchase, for example The Evil Dead. :-)

@@Fernito Well, since DooM, every game that looked like a FPS was instant-censored or went on the Index. In the 90s they were never going detailed into the games (what is the goal of the game, what is the story in this game, how many influences the violent to the players, etc.). It sucks when a new FPS was released and in germany we read about the games in magazines, but it was never possible to buy them in a shop. But on marketplaces in the near of my town they were sometimes traders from netherlands they are selling on their stands the games, which i own some of them physical (Quake III Arena, Requiem Avenging Angel for example or Blood II - of course they are on the index too. ^^). It was a frustrating time, but very many nostalgic memories. :-) In Windows Store i found Heretic but it seems it is a strange fan-port and not official, not worth to buy it.

@@Dosgamert The thing is, I recorded a demo first, and then play it back and captured the screen, but the inventory scrolling doesn't get saved in the demo for some reason.

@@Fernito Thank you! I will. I just finished my HD recording (not in GzDoom but the real DOS version, that crashes after the first Episode cause it directs you to ORDER INFO, which isn't there). I'm playing 100% everything, took me a while 'cause somehow I didn't grow up with this one. And I play on the medium level. I'm a wimp hehe.
