Funny that 2 of these sayings sound familiar to me, from different languages: Niin metsä vastaa, kuin sinne huudetaan - saksaksi: Wie man in den Wald hineinruft, so schallt es heraus (word for word: Kuin metsään huutaa, näin raikuu ulos) Pata kattilaa soimaa, musta kylki kummallakin - puolaksi: Przyganiał kocioł garnkowi (word for word: Soimasi pata kattilaa), here's just the fist part of the sentence, but the meaning is the same.

Yes, I love it how some sayings are so similar or even identical in different languages! Well spotted!

The sayings have their equivalents in English and other languages. I will be going to FInland later in the year and the language looks daunting. But I will learn some phrases our of respect for those I have to interact with and hope that they will forgive me mangling the words. A friend of mine who lived for 2 years in Finland told me "When you see the language, you know why they don't talk that much". I am sure he is wrong.

I thought the same thing ! It must be an expression that survived when Finnish, or other Nordic people, came to the U.S. That's really cool

Moi Varpu! My favourite saying is definitely #4 "Niin metsä vastaa kuin sinne huudetaan", but I always interpreted it as something you get back by how you do it, rather than speaking badly on someone, my bad! :D Great to see your shiny smile on YT, subscription done! Good luck and happy new year!

7. "Ei auta itku markkinoilla" on oikeastaan suomalaiskansallinen vastine muinaisten roomalaisten caveat emptor -periaatteelle: tehty kauppa on ostajan vastuulla eikä siitä voi valittaa (kirjaimellisesti "Ostaja varokoon")
