Your comments on how some people dislike that fact that you receive give aways is spot on. Those people also do not understand that when you receive a gift...along with that gift, comes a responsibility to care for it and to try to ensure it goes on to the appropriate recipient. People don't understand the weight of that obligation. You are blessed and I subscribe mostly because your channel demonstrates "doing the right thing" or the "right way in life". Everyday I watch and each day I close my notebook thinking I am better for watching and I am always thankful for your video's. Again. Thank you.

I absolutely love your channel. Not for just the content, but everything you and Mrs. W are about. With watching this videos as well as your others I have learned tons about wood working, family and stewardship. I love the way that you restore the tools and then send them off to help other wood workers. I know how expensive things can add up to be. I just started traditional woodworking and have been buying tools bit by bit as I run across them so I know how one can cherish the tools as well as the work put into them. Keep it up and no matter what don't let anyone get you down. Thank you for all your videos, especially the God in 60 series, those helped me the most.

wranglerstar It boggles the mind that any reasonable person would resent you having these tools, even IF you were hoarding them. I get most of my tools through estate auctions and treasure them more for the fact that somebody cared about them before I did. As long as they eventually leave your posession in good condition, you've done somebody somewhere a favour.

Wranglerstar you have been a huge inspiration to me. I have now been making axe handles with my grandfather and father for a few nonetheless now and making knives from raw prices of steel. I would have. Never gotten into collecting these tools and using them to build tables and tree houses without you. I sincerely thank you for changing my life from videos games and being focused on popularity to becoming a good, smart, strong man. Once again thank you for turning me for the better.

I really admire that you share these things the way you do, thank you for letting that fact be known. I also appreciate the fact that you care for and respect these things in a fashion that is to be admired. I have commented in the past on the ever growing volume of "stuff" you seem to be amassing, not because I'm envious but because I worry about the weight of those things detracting from the essence of what it means to be a homesteader and someone who relies less on stuff and more on ingenuity and determination to complete a task. One of my heroes is Richard "Dick" Proenneke and I see you as a contemporary version of him. Dick did more with less and I have come to admire and respect that facet of his character probably more than any other of his unique qualities. You serve as an example to others who wish to live a simpler more fulfilling life and knowing that an existence of such a life can be had with a handful of essential items is important. I would hate to think that anyone might become discouraged about making such a positive life change because they only own a few inexpensive hand tools or believed they needed a bunch of power equipment to start living the way you do. You have never asked to be looked at as any kind of icon or trend setter for the lifestyle you have decided to live but you have become one and it is important for everyone who enjoys your videos to understand that there are a multitude of ways to live the way you do and still be successful at it. I would love to see you offer alternatives or substitutes to the tools you use when you are working on projects, I think that would be encouraging and helpful to those viewers who aren't as blessed with such a large variety of tools and equipment.

I one day hope to find a brace and bit set along with an eggbeater hand drill. As my Grandson gets a few years under his belt I’ll introduce him to some of what I learned from Mr Amos. He was a fine finish carpenter and a fine man who spent time with me. I think of him every time I pick up a hand tool. I still miss him decades later. As an aside, I still watch the absolute joy you had upon inspecting the axes Prandi sent you. That was a special video. Thank you, Cody.

I liked your set of bits so much, I immediately went on Ebay and ordered a set. Got them a week ago. I love them...and you are right. They do cut a much cleaner hole than todays bits on electric or battery powered drills. I love these bits, the case and even enjoyed the vintage instruction manual. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the seller included three extra antique bits not included in the original set. I'm one happy Wranglerstar subscriber... Thanks a bunch...

I've taken some time away from the channel of late, but this video has reminded me why I subscribed in the first place. The points you raise about previous generations taking pride in their tools is clearly demonstrated here in this beautiful set of bits. You must feel honoured to have received them as a gift from a subscriber,. I think I speak for many viewers when I say that you have earned the right to receive beautiful tool gifts from viewers because we can feel safe in the knowledge that whatever we send you will be looked after and cared for. I hope to be in a position to send you something that will be of use to you from my vast collection, as I tidy up our 40 years of collecting and working with tools on our small holding here in the UK. Best wishes, Hugh

I've commented about this on other vids, but I'll repeat here anyway. Those are beautiful. I have that exact set, but in not nearly as good condition (to understate it). The ones I was given had been on the floor of a basement and had gotten wet. The wood case is a bit warped and worn, and the bits and brace were pretty rusted. I cleaned them up a bit, but I was unable to free up the ratchet in the brace. They are usable, and the bits are still sharp, but they have a lot of discoloration on them from the rust. Now that I've seen you cleaning and restoring tools, I'm going to re-clean this set. I don't have a bench grinder, but I do have access to one now, so I'm going to brush the bits to get the discoloration off. Then I'll re-clean them with Evapo-Rust again, if necessary. I'm not sure what to do about the ratchet in the brace, because I don't want to damage it, and I can't dis-asseble that part because it's seized up. However, I recently obtained a Stanley brace at a yard sale ($5.00) that is in excellent condition, and the ratchet works fine on it. Anyway, thanks for sharing all of this with us, W. Keep up the great work, and God bless you, Mrs. W, and Jack. Lucy & HR, too.

Doing my first real timber framing on a 4k sqft home right now and would love to have the time to do it the old fashioned way. When I wss a young telephone lineman..some 30 odd years ago..we used brace and bits to bore through poles for framing and hanging our cables. What torture! Hanging off the side of a pole trying to crank that bit through a foot thick creasote knotty pole! But they never failed to work and are pretty light weight to carry up and down pole all day. Now linemen have small gas drills to do the job. Great video..brings back memories.

Not sure why, but I have watched this video a couple of times now. This bit set seems to speak to me for some primal reason. I have had several wood workers, Carpenters and Tree Surgeons and loggers over the decades in my family. I think one of the Carpenters had a set very much like this but my memories are not as clear as they used to be. That is the only thing that makes sense as to why I like this video so much.

Great video! I inherited my grandfather bit and brace, which I believe was his fathers. It didn't come with bits however, and being a beginner woodworker I just have to use it. I'm in my early 20s so I grew up in an electrical age but have been collecting hand tools when I can find them. So to have my grandfather bit and brace is really something to cherish! I have managed to scrounge a few bits from pawn shops and such. It really is a joy to use! Hence my enjoyment of this video. Can a bit and brace effectively use bit with straight shafts? These I have! but finding the old type with the four sided taper is hard!

A nice set of bits Cody. I have a set that were a present when I started my apprenticeship in 1975. They are still in good condition and I was using them regularly for years. They wouldn't compare to the condition of those Irwin bits of yours but every carpenter/joiner I know are super careful not to chip or damage them in any way. That was the days before speed meant more than quality though.

If I remember correctly there were companies you could send your bits to and have some kind of chrome/alloy coating placed on them. And that it was a pretty common practice because these bits were a huge money investment back in the day that people had them dipped every handful of years.

After much thought I truly believe the comments are not at all about the negativity and rudeness as much as it is about challenging another person. People trying to fill an inner void by attempting to knock down another. It can drain you, if you let it. My guess is they and their opinions will end up in the same place as that iPhone 6. I would be proud to be held to the esteem of that legendary Irwin bit & brace set.

I enjoy the tools and can admit a spark or two of covetousness on occasion when I see how beautiful they are. But keep up your good works. Put the negativity out of your mind as best as you are able.

Women/Girls are Different from Men/Boys. I celebrate the difference. I know women who can do amazing repairs and assemblies using just a butter knife and a four inch, red pump, and I know men who can't figure out how to fix anything. We're all different. It's sad the negativity you get regarding gifts. The reverence and joy you have for old, quality tools is beautiful. Thank you.

Sweet!! I've been looking forward to these videos!! I'm soaking them up! I have also been looking for a nice set of bits to add to my tool collection, I have a really nice vintage brace that I've been wanting to put to good use, but I need the bits to go along with it. Recently looked online and found the sets like the one you have Cody, they go for around $70.00-$150.00. Nice job presenting them Cody!! I think Jack would love to work with those throughout his life. Hint, hint......

Was anyone else cringing until he fully seated the smallest bit? I was so worried there wouldn't be enough clearance to close the box and it would somehow damage something. Beautiful tools!

I agree with your every word. Well said sir. Watching your channel sends me back to childhood visits to my grandparents; memories I treasure. I don't agree with everything you say, but isn't that a good thing? In disagreeing with an alternate viewpoint, aren't you forced to examine your own? Being confronted with an alternate point of view doesn't give someone the right to spew bile. It's a sad indication of their own intellectual weakness ("Methinks the Lady(s) protests too much"). Warmest regards to you and your family, sir.

I'm just starting out with tools like this and have trouble knowing who's producing quality. Do you have any recommendations for "modern" auger bits that will last and cut cleanly?
