Katie Rae I am not sure what you are you talking about? I might be disabled but not dumb or unable to be responsible for the money I earn “at work”. Not at all tax payer paid! However those who are disabled and tax payer supported by Social Security/Disability are not all “weak people” that you see all too much. It seems you have a poor grasp of the disabled community as a whole. Just because a person is unable to walk, does not give them a life sentence of being subpar mentally. I enjoy this channel because I cannot travel much due to my physical condition and am grateful to be able to still be able to see the interesting parts of the USA.

I never knew about the past or what was there, but I absolutely loved dreaming about what I would do there. I could actually see the tower from my grandma's house. I was absolutely devastated when I saw parts of it get demolished as I got older. That place called the upper room was so awesome to imagine being my castle. Just uhhh I love it❤

Wish we had known you were in town. We would have joined up with you on this one, and could have given you additional information. I knew the place well unfortunately; I worked there from '85-'87. When Main Street USA opened, the trolley served as a fast food eatery with hot dogs, hamburgers, pop corn, etc. The pyramid building was the PTL World Outeach Center; basically it housed the property's administrative, security, and telecommunications. It was purposely built well away from the themed area. Directly across from the Upper Room used to be the Big Barn Auditorium and PTL Studios where Jim And Tammy had their daily shows. Though you stated the property had been revitalized, in reality the majority of the original park's 2300 acres has been sold off, and as you noticed, redeveloped with housing. Thanks for sharing!

Sort of like the old Ripley’s Believe It or Not! bit about every person in China lining up into several columns and marching into the sea forever without end.
@jeffreydieselshank84213 жыл бұрын
The time share system was exactly what they were doing. Sadly they did not keep track, over sold, doctored the books, and it brought down the house of cards. I attended the school there, and as a counselor had access to all over Heritage. Jimmy Swaggart is the one who turned them in, he reported the money issue and Bakker's involvement with Jessica Hahn. Falwell took over, but he wanted some of PTL's technology that Liberty did not have. People overlook the good done there. God does not share glory with man, for only God is worthy of worship and praise. People lost sight of the creator, and began to worship creation. Shalom.

The Heritage USA train that encircled the lake did, in fact, run along that gravel section as seen at the 7:05 mark. The gravel was the original train bed. Technically, was has always been referred to as the "island", where the water park once stood, wasn't really an "island" at all. It was technically a peninsula, surrounded on three sides by water. The original Heritage USA 'island" was never completely surrounded by water. And the train, did, in fact, run along that wooden structure that slices through the water at an angle. The train made counter-clockwise passes around the lake.

The atrium of the hotel, at the 2:48 point, is full of boring round tables and chairs. In the 80's, this area was full of high-end regal-looking antique-inspired fine seating. There were marble-topped tables and nice looking lamps. There was even a stately grand piano, and, in the far corner of the lobby, (to the far left corner, at the 2:48 mark) a small indoor swimming pool.

That place had such potential... it's a shame😞 I watched a full documentary on the Bakers and their situation...their drama was nuts! Still...awesome to see what the place looks like today. Thanks Jacob!👍

It’s an amazing movie even if you don’t care about her. It has so much information about the park and its rise and fall.

Great video Carpetbagger, thanks for creating and sharing it. In my time in the Charlotte area I used to frequent Heritage USA as I found nature taking it back interesting. The pyramid structure you talked about was the HQ for the site. Interestingly the water park and mountain were removed and were deposited to form the new main road into Pineville, NC near where the arcade Castle and go cart track use to be. I have a few pictoral videos on my channel showing some of the buildings and changes from 2004-2007.

Jacob, really enjoyed your video! I loved watching The PTL Club and loved Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker! I had their $100 book but, sold it in one of my yard sales for $5. I should've never sold it. I watched them on a big satellite dish my Daddy bought from his brother Albert. Really enjoyed your video!

I never got to go to Heritage USA as a theme park but when I was little they had Christmas light display ( Like Tanglewood) that you can drive through. My parents took me and my brother to see the Christmas lights one year,. Sad that is was abandoned. Carowinds could use a Rival to keep things interesting. By the way- My Husband and I took our kids to The Grievous Gallery in Salisbury because we saw your video on it and they had a amazing time. Thanks for doing what you do- If you didn't go to these places we wouldn't have known it was there.

I remember driving through all the lights there at Christmas!
This is amazing; I've never known about this for my 21 years of living in the Carolinas; it actually baffles me that most of the stuff down here is kept, even the Chuck E Cheese in Wilmington NC still has the animatronics, but it was made to be bigger; I visited it with my sister 2 years ago, it still has its Jr. Munch I believe and it's the only one to still have Pizza Cam with its latex mask.

It makes me feel all warm inside knowing a place like this shut down.

I seem to recall that the unfinished hotel tower was an effort to make good on the large number of lifetime memberships sold, each with promise of an annual stay. I know that we went there at least once when I was a kid but I don't remember much. I think it was there that they moved to a new studio and did it in the middle of a show, having the audience walk to the new one - we happened to be there the day of that. My parents would, around that same time, totally buy into what Mike Warnke's stories in the Satanic Panic so make of it all what you will.

The original exterior of the Main Street USA section back in the '80's looked very much like the interior section seen at the 3:23 mark. There were three floors to this section: the first housed a variety of shops. The second and third levels housed partner rooms, which were essentially high-end hotel rooms that the PTL partners stayed in during visits.
