Hey Herman, This is Lee Phelps. I worked with you about a month ago. You changed my grip to allow me to get the club face back to where it needs to be throughout the swing. This was a huge help. No more "stuck" swings. I found this video very helpful as well. Wish I could have got in another lesson before you ended your season. Thanks for all your help, Lee

This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. I had to mentally envision this and watch the pro's and then searched online for confirmation. This WAS IT! THANK YOU!

I've been trying to learn how to play golf for over 2 years now and I've really struggled to wade through the mind-boggling volume of differing 'expert' advice. I recently discovered your videos and I'm hugely impressed. I feel that I can now start to build a simple, solid repeatable swing (which is exactly what I've been searching for!). Thanks for your superb tutorials. I've certainly been Hermanized! Andy from the UK

Great video Herman....As the great teacher John Jacobs says in his book Practical Golf " In the good golf swing made from the correct set up there is no need to think consciously about transferring weight. The good golfers weight automatically transfers to the inside of his right foot going back to his left side coming through.

Excellent. I wish I lived closer so I could take lessons from you. Unlike most teachers, you know what the jargon means and you can illustrate it. Amazing.

Excellent review of the fundamentals. I like how you keep your explanations crystal clear and simple for the student. The tour swings reinforce the points nicely. Thank you, Herman!

Excellent analysis Herman. I cant get the ball high enough, my hands are so far forward at impact, my pro says I cover the ball unbeleivably. I can swing my 6 iron 105 mph, 98 mph normal and it only carrys 150 yards. Hopefully this will help. Thanks

Great video Herman, retaining that spine tilt through impact is so important and I understand it now. the only problem is that I can not do it?? My takeaway is good like you explained, i do struggle with a full shoulder turn but my real issue is that when i bump my left hip towards the target my upper torso and head slide over as well on the downswing. I just can not seem to keep my head back behind the ball....Any tips or tricks or drills to keep my head back. Thanks.

Thank you Herman, Great information on staying behind the golf ball... this should help a great deal in achieving that "like butter" pure-strike feeling through the ball. On another question... What type of material is your white indoor hitting-net? Thanks again for your well presented golf instruction. Peace ~ Jaime

It will surprise you. I have a net designed for a 10' x 10' x 10' hitting cage, but the reality is queen size hotel bed sheets work just as well. That's what you see hanging in front of my net to give a backdrop effect for the video. (BTW - no other more expensive material worked as well - blew a hole straight thru canvas in one swing, nylon tarp no good, sail cloth maybe but expensive.)

You don't see many good players leaning their upper body away from the target in the backswing as you demonstrate. They lean/tilt their body sideways with the left shoulder going down and behind the ball. Basically the whole of the body remains behind the ball until the followthrough and finish.

think of your y axis as it goes from your head to the ground. You actually rotate around that, just like in a baseball swing

an observation on back problem's seems to me that spine tilt and inertia created from winding up to get the driver smashed is possibly a contributor to a lot of lower and mid back aches and pains when i have been driving well and sending the ball 280 + i feel it after a round and a practice session Q is there precautions you have seen maybe in practice regime and or equipment choice i.e regular or less stiff shafts on long irons and drivers also since i have been taking divots i feel slightly more agro in the back ?

I'm a little confused. If the upper body stays behind the ball, how can you get a divot in front of the ball? I thought the lowest point of your golf swing is in front of the ball which is dictated by where your sternum is.

I am working on this move and have the same conceptual issue. Could you please explain this. How do the hands catch up with the ball or should I re-examine my ball position in light of this tilt.
@Robert-ts2ef
@Robert-ts2ef 6 жыл бұрын
Jansen, Iet me help you to understand: On the downswing, the sequence is as follows for a right handed player: The hips slide forward and start to rotate while the front shoulder moves up and the back shoulder moves down, around and forward. The plane of the shoulders on the downswing are quite steep to allow the arms and club to slot into an inside position getting ready to hit the ball. At this point, the lower body has now moved back toward the ball with the upper body slightly behInd it. The arms are roughly parallel with the ground at this point with the club cocked ready at the wrists and as the arms continue down with the centrifugal momentum the hands will be ahead of the ball prior to impact and should stay ahead of the ball as the club head catches up and makes impact with the ball. Keep in mind that the golf swing is not a series of step movements but a fluid swing where timing is the key. The best way to practice the move is to do it very slowly and deliberately to allow it to s8nk in to your muscle memory and gradually speed up. If your golf range allows you to play off grass, then set a tee down by the ball and check your divot afterwards to see if it started after the impact. It worked for me and I used to be off 28 and now play off 12 but then again I am 67 yrs old. Good luck.

your lower body will shift weight from back foot to front foot (when you keep the head behind ball) as Herman says. That automatic weight shift causes you to hit down and thru the ball thus taking a divot. Bobby Lopez has some great videos as well. The automatic weight shift is simply your hips clearing out for your arms to fall freely thru impact zone.

Excellent Video! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (probably on Google)? It is a good exclusive product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 after many years got amazing results with it.

This is why you have to get that shift of the lower body before you complete your back swing! Its moving your swing center forward. If you fail to do this early enough you will likely flip through impact or try too hard to hold the lag angle in the wrist creating a harpooning effect (bad). Its a tough game!

Assuming you hit the ball, you'd still be behind the ball after impact, LOL.

Staying behind the ball tends to make me hit up on the ball, which is fine with the driver but thin and bad with irons.
