I posted this same comment the other day on one of bigfoot's recent Hermeto videos but I'm reposting it on more of his videos because its important Hermeto fans read it...... "All Hermeto fans owe an incalculable debt of gratitude to bigfoot. For over 15 years he's selflessly shared amazingly rare Hermeto shows and videos. Not for self-aggrandisement or to play "Mr Big" or to make money or to bestow favours on the priveleged few as an ego-trip. Its just for the love of Hermeto (and to spread that love). He's added massively to the body of work Hermeto fans and future generations can enjoy. Left to the people who control the Hermeto archives, I dont think any of this stuff would have ever seen the light of day (assuming it was ever even in the archives to begin with). In the same way, the archive gatekeepers to Hermeto's sheets (about 9000 compositions) refuse to give open-access to them (despite everything Hermeto has always publicly said about him wanting everyone to be able to play his music). Its sad to see. Most of the elite "inner circle" musicians associated with H seem more interested in promoting themselves off the back of Hermeto (or basking in the reflected glory of being close to him). For example it's literally impossible to get them to share their unseen "private" Hermeto sheets. Its like an "elite club" thing for them. Unlike the "inner circle" of musicians who constantly live off their association with the Master, Bigfoot has made a much more important contribution to Hermeto's legacy. He actually did something. He made a difference. One other thing - recently a friend told me something that should concern all Hermeto fans. Do you realise that no digital safety-copy exists of the main Hermeto' archive of sheets kept in Brazil? There's maybe over 8000 sheets in the exclusive control of Hermeto's son, Fabio. Another smaller archive is in the exclusive control of Hermeto's ex-wife Aline. If God forbid, there's a fire (like what happened at Rio's National Museum) then the entire archive will be lost forever. Its hard to believe this is true, but apparently it is. From what I hear Fabio will not let anyone video/photo the archive. For years he's refused all offers from serious/well-respected Hermeto devotees to take care of this for him for free. Why?? I hope someone out there can convince him to let the archive be video'd or photo'd (to safeguard against a calamity) As Sivuca and others have said, Hermeto is as important a composer as Beethoven, Mozart or Bach etc. In sheer quantity alone, Hermeto's body of work far exceeds any composer that's ever lived. Any library that has rare manuscripts digitises their catalogue for obvious reasons. So its utterly unbelievable that a digital safety-copy has not been made of the main archive in Brazil. Why in God's name hasn't this been taken care of???? This should be the top priority of anyone who loves Hermeto and cares for his legacy. In a recent interview Hermeto said he nearly burned down Fabio's apartment when he had an accident making Popcorn. That would have meant the entire archive of sheets would have been destroyed....this really should be a massive wake-up call to get the archive video'd immediately. That way the sheets can be re-written later. A cultural treasure like Hermeto's sheets (of equal importance to Bach/Mozart/Vivaldi/Stravinsky etc etc) needs to be preserved for the world.
