Thank you all so much for such beautifully insightful comments on Solar Punk! I had a base grasp on what it was, but so many of you have provided fantastic information that I'll absolutely attempt to heed and interpret in further expansions of the base! The very common, 'clean and white minimalist' type of architecture aesthetic normally associated with this theme isn't the approach I wanted to take; and instead I'll be focusing more on the outer farming Solar Punk community aspect. This is why my colours are the vibrancy that they are as well. I hope I can build to expectations! 😄 ❤

solar punk is based on non western archtecture (like afro futuristic and american past civilizations), having the pure white and minimalist from western modern archtecture (often used in futuristics/utopian sci-fi) is so off to the theme... when you think in solar punk, think about steam punk (very detailed-ish) with modern eletricity instead of steam and a lot an a lot of life and water incorporated in the middle of the city and lots of color XD

I believe reasoning behind using mostly lighter colors is because they reflect the sun back, where as darker colors absorb more heat and therefore cause more warming effects (heat islands). So the lighter colors actually have a purpose in the solar punk aesthetic and movement!

Awesome to choose solarpunk! And with a bit of an Italian hint. A big thing in solarpunk is melding with nature and natural designs. Also, like how Japanese architecture gets combined with cyberpunk, different African architectural designs get used in Solarpunk pretty often; This comes from where Solarpunk originates as a concept and movement, a lot from its multicultural background

Not only are a bunch of hermits doing "punk" themes. Another theme I'm seeing this season is "cluster" bases. By that I mean Joel, Grian, Gem, Impulse/BDubs, and Pearl (probably missed some) are doing bases that are bunches of small buildings rather then one massive thing that can burn you out. A lot of smart decisions have gone into season 10 and I think this was another great one.

yea youre right. its very cool to see cause its honestly more in line with how my build projects usually go. i usually play with a group of friends and we always end up building a communal base town with each other, sometimes even transforming existing villager towns into full cities (we never do trading halls and usually just build protective walls so the villagers can move about free range lol). i never really get much building inspo from mega builds, but i definitely have been getting a ton of ideas from all these small ones. cant wait to build some of them once all the new blocks get added to vanilla

For adding more solarpunk, just keep in mind that you can push sustainable energy sources as much as you can possibly think of. Solar panels on roof, big wind turbines etc, and then add in a touch of "in harmony with nature". :)

I couldn't be more thrilled that you've chosen solarpunk! I'm going to be teaching a solarpunk unit to my eleventh graders soon, so here are a few themes to draw inspiration from: - Re-wilding: restoring ecosystems to their original balance. - This might look like leaning into the cherry blossom biome or inventing a narrative for the ecosystem balance of your own (using different mobs and plants?) - Indigenous ways of knowing - Solarpunk goes hand in hand with afrofuturism, but solarpunk is meant to be place-specific. (research architectural developments spearheaded by aboriginal australians?) An example local to me is the proposed community development of Sen̓áḵw in Vancouver. - Community - Solarpunk has a huge focus on communal spaces! The mail system feeds into this perfectly as a public service tbh. - Using what you've got - While solarpunk *can* mean polished white skyscrapers, it also means renovating old buildings for new purposes. Buildings with clear past purposes transformed into new communal use is common. - Natural materials - Related to the Indigenous ways of knowing, solarpunk will use natural materials local to the area, as global industrial sourcing is no longer a priority. - Dear Alice - If you have not seen the animated short "Dear Alice", it's many peoples' first introduction to solarpunk ideals, and it's also rich with visual inspiration. Take a look! (Sorry if this comment is a lot. I really never comment and this is my first. Thank you for your time)

I love the warm natural block palette used for these builds. I think that these soft sunny colors make for an excellent interpretation of solarpunk. I think that the subtle shift in colors as each building moves farther away from the starter base is very effective. I like that the mud factory is more industrial and closer to Tango's base and it more heavily features copper, mud, and spruce. The new sniffer farm is starting to climb the mountain and it looks bright and airy with the yellow and green tones from the birch and bamboo. I agree with Keralis's rating 10/10!

Hi Pearl ! Absolutely love the theme you're going with, and I wanted to give some general facts of what constitutes [redacted], so that it could maybe help you build ! - Solarpunk is, as you said it, originally a movement: it's the radical inclusion of everybody and building a better life for everyone through relying on renewable sources, recycling and repairing. Basically the whole Repair Reuse Recycle - It also means being mindful of the capacity of an individual, which includes but are NOT limited to: disabilities, skills and general kindness and helpfulness to others - - The general aesthetics that you'll often encounter online are very focused on solar energy and greenery, but that's not the only sources of power you have at your disposal ! Things like windpower and hydropower are also very viable options ! - While Solarpunk really focuses on green energies and shared skills, it doesn't mean that science is completely disregarded ! As long as it's mindful of the environment and benefits people, it is absolutely a viable option - This is an opinion so take it with a grain of salt, but most of what you see online has got some very white builds with greenery sparkles here and there; while imo it's not wrong, it doesn't mean you have to cater to that, you can go wild with the colour palette of your builds ! - The postal service is actually very fitting of Solarpunk ! It's a community service and Solarpunk really focuses on that. I realize that this is a bit more on the political side of the movement, but I just wanted to share the bits of knowledge I have on this. Feel free to pick and choose or disregard though, I don't want to make it seem like I'm saying "you have to do this!!!1!1" Thank you so much for the video, I loved it ❤

Solarpunk is an awesome idea for a theme! The big thing with solarpunk is that it takes a lot of cues from steampunk, but instead of being about steam engines, gears, and cogs, it's more about renewable energy, glass, and nature. Lots of big glass walls/windows and open areas for curated biomes/nature. So much room for experimentation within that theme. Adding in the copper to mesh with Tango's base could make for a cool transition area moving from steampunk to solarpunk further up the hill for your main base.

I think I realized why I'm so in love with the direction pearl is heading with her base and theme this season! To me solarpunk fits pearl kinda perfectly? Solarpunk at its core is like coming together as a community to create a sustainable future and heavily interconnected with nature. Pearl literally started a mail network system for the hermits this season so theres easy and accessible ways to keep in touch or transport goods between each other at the press of a button! Her builds always hold such a beautiful array of colors and organics that already mesh beautifully, even when theyre supposedly at odds (ie. last seasons alien base) and I always feel like Pearl works in a different way with organics and natural elements to her builds. Instead of a "now that I have the build done, how can I add some green on top of it, or add more to it" I feel like Pearl really ends up using the different elements of her creations to support eachother and it really ends up elevating the whole thing! It seems more like a "well, if theres this part here, how would it impact the rest of the structure? How would I represent that through the build?" types of thoughts instead! I dunno, maybe its my artsy and nature-loving brain thinking about it too much. But I really think this theme suits Pearl wonderfully and I cant wait to see where it goes! Especially with her colorful style of building. (bonus since I realized I didnt put this thought into text yet, I think its even more perfect now that pearl has the flowers permit, being able to share that colorful community with the rest of the server!) Edit: I also want to say that when I think of solarpunk and pearl I specifically think less of the big white city type of style that tends to be pushed to the forefront, and more of the smaller communities and structures out in the "suburbs" if you could even call them that. almost like the more farm-style of buildings (maybe I'm biased since pearls starter house reminds me a lot of a colorful and cozy farmhosue!) but more of that style where we can actively see where all of the produce and resources are being gathered from, but can still see the bigger civilizations and cities above the treeline? I'm not sure how to describe it! I'm just so excited!!

Pearl! I just wanted to say I absolutely ADORE your time-lapses. Regardless of scale or complexity, your editing style and music choice really shines in every single one. I really want to highlight the slow-down at the horn riff especially. The way you bring the audience out of the time-lapse to focus on a specific moment of your build really sells the entire experience. It juxtaposes the fast complexity of the rest of the build to make us realise that every block placed in this time-lapse has just as much significance as the one you highlight in the slow-mo. It reminds me of the whole 'a picture says a thousand words' thing, and I really love it. Thank you for making such an awesome motif for your videos. It helps the pacing of your videos so much in my opinion. (Obviously you don't need to do a time-lapse for every video but each time you do, it's always a treat! :) Cheers! From a fan.

I've loved solarpunk architechture for years, though I never knew the term. I think the most important thing with this, regardless of whatever style influences the actual shapes and colours of the build, is to always think about how the building exists as a part of nature rather than around it or in it. What kind of structures do we make to allow the diversity of plant life to remain as natural as possible? How do we protect the wildlife that gets displaced or otherwise affected by our construction? How do we minimize the impact we have on their habitat? Also for some real life examples I recommend singapore's green architechture, though the overall aesthetic is quite different from here

a massive part of Solarpunk is 'sustainability in the face of unsustainable systems'; one of the best micro-stories that captures the spirit of Solarpunk is, 'The Librarian smirked, as the Cops tell him that the library will be disconnected from the power grid, in retaliation for daring to let a warm building house the homeless... The Cops flip the switch. The lights flicker... & The Librarian's smirk grows larger as the lights stay on.'

I think something that could really pull the solarpunk feel together more is to add windmills! Big & small! In the yard, on the roofs of buildings. As for indoors, lots of patted plants and maybe use some lightning rods for piping will help sell the vibe. A lot of solarpunk art i've seen also has lots of big hoses or pipes for water around. Maybe you could use weathered/oxidized copper for those? Or warped wood fences for stuff that looks smaller.

I think Doc had a solid rendition of solarpunk last season, especially with his starter base/slime shop. It fit him well, considering the heavy automation + his homegrown tomatoes! I think a keypoint for going solarpunk is fitting your buildings and structures with their natural surroundings. Part of the appeal is using technology to work with nature instead of working over nature. Natural features should dictate what is build where, to enhance the character of said natural features (cliffs, rivers, forests) since in solarpunk man thrives wherever nature thrives! The "punk" in solarpunk indicates a rebellion from the modern day society of grey concrete blocks and soulless cities. It's the flower blooming through the cracks of a pavemented road. There's a bit of a rabbit hole here, and I've seen this discussion going very political very fast. Still, one of the images used a lot is the abandoned cities reclaimed by nature (again a good fit for Doc last season with his goatpeople lore). All this being said, there is no collectively solarpunk direction agreed on. Perhaps the "Dear Alice" yogurt ad (yes, an advertisement for yogurt. Don't ask.) is the closest thing there is out there. We ain't got a Blade Runner or a Bioshock Infinite for solarpunk (yet), so feel free to give this the spin you want to and to bring your own vision over. It's an exciting time for solarpunk pioneers, as there are no wrong answers, only good questions! Can't wait to see what you come up with! TL;DR: Solarpunk is a high-tech nature-grounded style that challenges the idea of a grey depressing technological future.

You are my favorite Minecraft builder! I love your styles, especially how you integrate your builds with the terrain and add elevations.. I hate it when builders "clear" the terrain to build on a straight land. I love how your base is nit just a few boxes.. it has overhangs, garages, chimneys and bridges and all the lovely details that add so much to your base. Also I love your unique choices of color.

Solar punk is one of my favorite design aesthetics and om so excited to see your take on it! If you're still looking for ideas, I'd suggest looking into Adobe and Cobb houses, eco-brutalisim and mid century modern styles (especially some of frank lloyd wright's houses but there's sooooo many more options than just his work) there's also been some excellent animations involving solar punk , including a chobani yogurt ad of all things. There's so much to explore and I'm so happy we get to see your take on it. You'll do great💛

Pearl, I have been absolutely loving your arc this series. I really recommend "A Psalm For The Wild Built" by Becky Chambers. It's a short hopepunk/solarpunk book set in the distant future after industrialisation has been and gone, and robots have been freed & abandoned humans to live in nature. The main character is a 'tea monk' who travels on their bicycle powered wagon to towns to provide tea & talk to the residents. There are some really lovely descriptions of the world the main characters live in, and I think could be really inspiring for your build this season.

So many of the Hermits are so close to each other that I genuinely don't think there will be any natural terrain specifically in the Magic Mountain & the Pearl, Etho, Tango area. The Cyberpunk City being sorta the center piece of all the Punk themed builds is gonna be SO cool.

So happy to see some solarpunk in minecraft! Excited to see what you come up with. Lots of Ghibli films will actually use solarpunk-inspired builds and machines and have an overal nature-like aesthetic that meets mechanical elements. Also earthships have some super funky forms and designs that some solarpunk artists will base their designs off. Super excited to see what you do with the theme Pearl! There are so many subgenres in solarpunk that I can totally see your style becoming a new mix of all this, with a lot of original twists :D
