Hermitcraft 9 Ep 32: THE CUSTOM BIOME IS DONE!

Hermitcraft season 9 episode 32! I start to build my base inside of Scarland and create the mega mountain landscape to put the fantasy castle on top of it. The Castle will house my base and be the focal point of the theme park. It took 10 days to design and build the custom fantasy landscape design with 2 new tree designs. Also, I build the Scarland Trolleys for Main Street with 2 different colored trolleys. I hope you enjoy the builds and see you in the next episode of Hermitcraft!

Yeah... I think Grian (during the shared "Hermits Hardcore") mentioned that he's pretty sure Scar does it on purpose. But, it's like the saying goes "You only need armour if you're planning on getting hit." Have you considered maybe turning the land closest to Doc into essentially a Future Land that matches his eco futuristic sandstone building style? It would make the transition from one base to another a lot smoother and probably appease his dragon-powered rage quite a bit hahaha

if that is the case, invite doc along to collab for that section. heck, with doc's help, the perimeter could be a "second gate"; a place to marvel at all the farms and enjoy doc's growing boss petting zoo, that is if the machines cant find some sort of creative ride based retheme. If not a second park or dedicated section in its own right, then it can be the maintenance "closet" located "backstage"

I just got back from Disney today, and whenever I first got to the park my initial thought went to how well you’ve replicated Main Street. It’s amazing!! Also as a suggestion since you have half slab floors everywhere maybe you could find a way to make animals in Minecarts have a parade around Main Street because that would be hilarious

The parade thing is a good concept. I'm just not sure how it could be implemented, since the only regulated speed is really fast. Maybe there is a data pack for slow powered rail, or maybe the furnace cart could be utilized?

@@TimberJackEB There's actually a trick that can be done with a chest boat, minecart, and a chicken. You put the chestboat in the minecart, and the chicken in the boat, and it'll make the entire thing start going at a slow but steady pace. I think IlMango has a video on it.

With regards to the high XP cost you mentioned for naming items, if you name the item before you apply any enchantments it will always cost only 1 level and then you can enchant afterwards. Cheers!

I don't notice anymore how far apart Scar's videos are because I end up being amazed by his building and transitions and everything every time a video comes out, it's amazing he can even complete these big tasks in a few weeks.

Scar always get so much work done jn an episode its amazing. And his current style with the transitions (started as elven twirl) probably doesn't have a good ratio of hours played to minutes of content made. (I know Impulse talks about how 8hrs of grind equals 1.5minutes of video in a timelapse. Good for production quality and making progress, less good for filling up a 20min video.) I'm curious just how much playtime it takes scar to make some of his builds, that biome had to take forever even if he's really good at custom trees. (Both with and without time spent designing stuff in creative first)

I've said it before and I'll say it again- Scar paints with Minecraft as his medium. Watching these videos is like watching my friends talk about their paintings and other work. The stuff he talks about is the kind of stuff we talk about in art school. It's so much fun to listen to artists talk about their work and I get the exact same feeling listening to Scar Edit: I don't think the trolley ruins the sight line, but it is very central to the frame which makes it the main focus. If the goal is for the first thing someone notices from that direction to be the trolley, it's doing it's job perfectly.

Those trees really are such a good translation of Earle’s designs into both a 3D space and in Minecraft! It turns out that January 6th is the generally recognized day to take down Christmas decorations (a thing I only learned this year!) so you might be a bit behind on that! 😅

Thanks for bringing back the super fast grind mode and super fast build mode! I’ve desperately missed them. With the trolley placement, it might look better if it is asymmetrical. Having the structures / buildings themselves symmetrical gives a nice consistency to the place, but for organic / moving things, some unevenness and asymmetry can really add to the feeling of movement. (plus, it can help keep the important viewing angles open!)

Agreed! Asymmetry with the trolley while everything around it is perfect is a really unique way to imply that it's moving even though it's completely stationary. I think leaning into the asymmetry and moving it a few blocks further to one side will get rid of that slightly uncanny not-quite-symmetrical feeling he's concerned about.

Hey Scar, did you know that Disney World has a tunnel network underneath it to assist in the travelling from one place to another for staff? It also helps keep immersion, such as preventing the event of seeing Buzz Light-year in the Pirate-land! I think that would be really cool to add to your park, and it could even add to that secret section near the waterfall!

I know it’d just be a small detail, but perhaps there could be a music disc constantly playing so that when you approach the waterfall, and specifically the bottom of it, you just hear water crashing down. It’d just be a really nice touch, and to gradually hear the crashing of the water as you approach would really add a little more realistic magic to the whole place :) Edit: Typo :D

I think the green trolly would work even better if it was like an 1/8 of the way round the circle or just offset in some way. It may even create a false sense of movement by not lining up perfectly.

I just sat at my desk mouth gaped open in amazement and wide-eyed trying to absorb every detail. My smile grew bigger and bigger with every block you placed. Plus Joe’s pinball machine isn’t done, Scarland is not done, Beef is about to release his card game, everyone has some pretty big projects so it’d be annoying to just have another ending like last time. Scar, naming an item always only adds 1 level to the cost on the anvil. The reason it's costing you 30+ levels to rename your tools is because every time you use an item on an anvil it gets an increasing "prior work" cost. If you rename the item while doing combining it with your enchanted books or other enchanted gear it only adds one level to the cost of the combination + prior work. But if you wait till you are all done and then decide to name it you pay the entire prior work cost + the one level for changing the name.

Gotta shout out two brilliant things. first one is those transitions between shots where you're mid flight through an area. I more or less needed to double take to process that anything had happened, truly magical. Second, I love the scaling of Scarland. It's so perfect in how from the ground it just looks huge, but the second you're flying around you can actually get anywhere super fast! Little subtle piece of theme park magic you've snuck in there that I really appreciate

Some things that would really had some life to the theme park would be - An entrance to buy the tickets - A few security guards roaming the park/ a security and infirmary lounge - a pickle and turkey leg cart - A water fountains

I think I'd move the green trolley. I get what you're saying about the symmetry of main street (having been there), but remember the trolley is supposed to move. I think by making it off the symmetry of the rest of the area, it also helps imply the movement of the trolley. I think leaving it where it is does clutter the beautiful sight lines and weenies you have from the trees and Founders Statue to where the Castle will be. Not that I need to tell you, but it sounds like the castle is the center piece, like the Castle Magic Kingdom, the Hat in Hollywood Studios, or the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom. You want to see it and have it highlighted from as many focal points as possible. If you can angle the tram diagonally (I know, tricky in Minecraft), maybe with the height of the sloped roof towards the castle, it'll provide another sight line and weenie to point you in it's direction. Sincerely from a much worse builder but a fellow Theme Park dork.

The fact that your tree's are inspired by the work of Eyvind Earl is utterly amazing and so cool. Sleeping Beauty (1959) is one of my favorite films of all time and even before you mentioned Earl I thought your tree's looked familiar. You are such a fantastic Minecraft builder and artist. Those are some pretty cool trolleys! As a railfan (train enthusiast), I’ve ridden tons of trains and trolleys in real life and build my own in Minecraft (mainly LRVs, which are very similar to trolleys but have differences), so seeing them built by you (and hopefully other hermits!) make me happy throughout my first (and stressful at times ) year in high school.

The ocean landscaping is so well done! (Panes on azalea is so cool and unique!) Custom trees are amazing! (Moss and granite? Chef's kiss! Trolley carts are adorably unique!!! However, I think the positioning of the green trolley covers the entrance of the adventure area and hindering the grandiose view of it from the ground level. Otherwise, it's cool! Your level of patience and attention to detail always astounds me. How can you dedicate so much time into a projects without getting burnt out? I could never!

I've really been missing super fast build mode, I know time lapses probably aren't super good for viewer retention, but you have no idea how much I crave that song. Also hoping to hear that part after the second drop at least a couple times this season, reminds me of getting near the end of songs on super hexagon, it always feels really special and substantial.
