for the nether tunnel, it should be little alcoves with a armor stand (possibly done by cleo) for each hermit. in each alcove, there could be a list of the stores each hermit has. the whole tunnel could have a single design, possibly quarts to look like a museum hallway, or each hermit could get involved and decorate their personal alcove. And at tye end just before the portal could be a wall map with bannered location markers.

I gotta say that I really like the ever progressing shop idea. It worked really well with Grian's barge of season 7, and it's working really well with the trash shop. It makes it so that the shop has kind of a history to it, and it makes the shop itself just really interesting.

Dig out holes in the sides of the tunnels for hermits to make their own little stands. That way each hermit can decorate their own portions and it can be a nice collab project, and you still get all the diamonds for building the portal in the first place :)

A good nether theme could be an art gallery which compliments the library theme of the main hub. You can use paintings as passageways which can connect to other shopping-district/starter village portals which would make it a secondary netherhub and the rest of the tunnel could be decorated with map art from other hermits or shopping district ads.

Suggestion for the nether tunnel to the shopping district: My idea is to keep the tunnel intentionally plain (maybe some simple deepslate design or something like that) and section it off a with arches like in the main tunnel with blank walls between. Then you can make a system where hermits can rent ad space for their shops on the walls (Maybe the rent diamonds go towards funding the quest system?). They can use whatever form of ad they want like map art, banner art or just simple signs. So when the hermits come down the tunnel on their way to do some shopping they can check out the deals of the day.

If you are going to keep adding floors to your shop, you should add an elevator and then put a sign on it that says "out of commission". It gives off vibes of an old shop with a stingy shop-keeper that can't be bothered to get someone to fix the elevator, so it just has an "out of commission" sign on it every time you go there, and I think that suits really well the premise of your shop

I would love to see, on the nether side (given that it's a tunnel), a warped and streched-out perspective of the overworld. The view would be from the overworld portal's perspective. It would contain landmarks and things that exist near and around the portal from it's point of view. The idea would be that you'd be previewing what would be found once you go through said portal, while also, giving the impression of approaching with great speed. It'd be cool to intermingle the stylistic choices you had made in the overworld portal's design as though the alien infrastructure and technology was what was making the entire portal/warped-speed perspective possible. I do not know how difficult or even practical this could be for you. I have not played since I was younger. It's just a thought and an interesting idea that I'd personally LOVE to see and I love the idea of the full build telling a kind of story. That's my suggestion.

Making a form of inspiration from Tango's building is a draw on Harry Potter with the floating candles and Hogwarts dining hall inspiration.
