I remember attending a folk night at a hotel in Barnhill around 1971. It might have been the Woodlands Hotel. A slim, quite long haired young man turned up. He explained that he'd broken a guitar string and couldn't afford to replace it until the next "brew" payment. He then went on to entertain us with his original songs. This was a young Mick Marra at the start of his career. And what a great, inventive, original artist he turned out to be...

I think I heard this song once when I was around 10 years old. Nearly 30 years later and it randomly popped into my head and a bit of Googling brought me here. Enjoyed this!

A tragic loss for his own ones, Scotland & music. Many compare Michael to others but no one could compares to him, he was a unique talent. He has sadly gone, but his music will outlive us all. On to the golden shore Michael. R.I.P.

Farewell Michael. I'll never forget the time he came into the Guildford Arms in Edinburgh and we shared a few swallies. A real character, a lovely human being, a wonderful singer/songwriter and a Scottish legend.

This HAS to be sung in a sad and slightly tuneless way. Listen to the lyrics. My late wife found this a very sad song. as do I. But it is a CLASSIC in it's very unusual subject matter.
@rodsreel10 жыл бұрын
A vocal is a personal thing, a vocal with character originality and honesty means everything to me so Mick Marra is right up there wi Dylan and Willie Nelson and umpteen scots and irish singers. The pure voice singers of opera or boy bands I have no interest in.
