The late Michael Marra [ RIP ] singing "Ae Fond Kiss", very much in his own style, from 1991. Dick Lee plays saxophone.

I could die a happy woman if I knew I would leave something as beautiful as this song for other generations to appreciate. Rest in peace, Michael. . .your music is a magnificent legacy.

Michael sings with such an honesty and realism you can so imagine Burns' angst. The accent and phrasing are the best I've heard from anyone reciting the Bard.

I dearly loved what this talented man shared with the rest of us. We booked him at our folk club a few months before he passed into legend. A gentle soul and greatly missed.

Its a combination of the voice and the pace that gets me with this version . I love the pauses combined with the piano . Outstanding . What a guy he was .

looking for a version to play my 7yr old, forced to play Michael Marra when I suggested she might not like his gravelly tones, both silent through-out, both gobsmacked at not only the sheer beauty of this song but this beautiful rendition, what a lose to Scotland and the world, thankfully he left an archive of music and songs to give to my daughter, Thank you Michael Marra

I rarely get goose bumps to music but am goose bumped all over. His tone on the word Nancy is sublime.

Beautifully sung and played, a heartfelt homage to the poem. He was a consummate musician even so early in his career. One of the best. Sadly missed for his music and the man he was.

What a talent Michael Marra was. First heard his voice working on Wildcat's "Border Warfare" in Tramway a million years ago - stopped me in my tracks. Nice sax on this, too. Thanks for posting.

Robert wrote these words for his "Nancy" - Mrs Agnes MacLehose. Mrs MacLehose was a married woman who Robert met and instantly fell in love with. They wrote letters to one another under the pseudonyms "Clarinda" and "Sylvander". Mrs. MacLehose was fated to leave Scotland to be with her husband in Jamaica. Burns and "Nancy" both knew they would never meet again......

Having been born and brought up in Burns and oor Nancy's territory this song was our anthem. I thought this was the top of the hit parade.
@ianbaillie68688 жыл бұрын
Simple song simply sung with his usual panache, nice sax ,did Burns inspire the tunes ? Whatever, enjoy then look for other versions.
