Hernia Repair - again...

It is time to fix my inguinal hernia again. It has been three months since the first one failed and it has gotten a bit bigger and is quite sore. Tomorrow I am having it repaired for the second time.

You know, I’m a random who watches for foot advice. I’m currently watching over my mom deal with anxiety over her colon cancer. Slowly dealing with all the feelings that come up with the uncertainty and anxiety of having surgery after surgery. I’m sorry for your hernia and the subsequent chaos it has brought. It’s a lot mentally and for your body. We are all truly delicate machines.

Felt completely recovered within five days or so. My surgeon performs about 200 inguinal hernia operations a year and estimates that he has a failure 'about once a year.' Seems apparent that the expertise, dexterity, and experience of your surgeon are crucial factors, especially when it comes to laparoscopy. ... Thank you for your transparency and keeping us posted on this. I just said a few good prayers for your surgery today, and I will say a few more. I also pray that you might switch to walking instead of cycling for at least several months after the surgery in order to let the surgery heal. As an athlete I know how hard it is to not do the exercise that you are most passionate about. I know you must have a lot on your mind right now; possibly later you can tell us if the doctor plans to take out any of the robotic mesh that was placed in the first operation. Are they not able to remove the mesh from the laparoscopic procedure during the open surgery?

Praying for you ! I am scheduled for the robotic inguinal surgery next week. But now am highly considering the open approach. This approach seems like it is more straight forward, where the surgeon actually uses his hands. Any thoughts?

From what I remember you originally had mesh repair. Were there complications with the mesh? Are you having the mesh removed?

What does your surgeon say about how long you should wait before exercising or returning to cycling (90 - 180 days)? Does he think that you should be good to go back to your usual cycling routine eventually? Thanks for the update. Wishing you a perfect result that ends the hernia journey forever. Following in Jax. We discussed that at the initial visit but I am going to have a long talk with him at my post op visit in another month. Even though the typical answer is 6 weeks I am skeptical now that it has failed once. I will certainly let you know what we decide. I appreciate your viewership Janet. Thanks for your comment.

I had open repair 5 weeks ago, now 0 pain. My doctor also told me that never go for laproscopic repair.

Great videos. I had a robotic inguinal hernia repair three days ago. The first day I noticed that the bump was gone completely but as today I notice that I have a bump again where the hernia used to be. I don’t know if that is normal or if they had fail fixing it.

Where are you from, man? I just had my hernia repaired openly 3 weeks ago and hearing about a $6500 cost of surgery blows my mind...I had mine covered by health insurance, only paid for my mesh which was around $150

Well: If you are over 65 you probably have a medicare advantage plan which means you only have a copay. If you work for a company that pays for your health care then you are fortunate. If you have low income then you may qualify for a "Low income" policy such as what is offered under Obamacare. But the rest of us have to pay for insurance (like $500 a month) and also have a huge deductible. It sounds like you are one of the fortunate ones - be glad for what you have.

I found out at my primary appointment earlier this month that I have an inguinal hernia. They said I don't need surgery since there is no pain but that it will probably need to be repaired at some point in my 50s.

@@ben4376 I wish I had noticed and had gone to the hospital months ago before I lifted something heavy and opened a big hole on both sides. But I turned 50 last month and got hernia right on time. Do stomach vacuums, that should help.

@@ben4376 Yes, usually after strenuous walking or exercise or lifting heavy things. I already went for an ultrasound exam and they basically confirmed I have a one inch hole on each side.
