So which would be recommended for no arch heavy guy working in concrete in boots? Carbon or green? Wanting support to keep ankle from rolling inwards. Thanks.

Thanks Dr Dave Ive been following you since your first surgery great video as always!! You look great btw. I had my surgery late October still have limitations and things im afraid to try cause I’ve paid for it in the past like lifting things too heavy. But I also have lower back issues and hip labrum tear. So maybe some of yhe pain may be coming from those issues. I was reading one of the other comments and it said your wife tells you to stay positive and that’s absolutely right. Pain can play with your mind even level 1 or 2 but having family support is awesome and helps tremendously. God bless!!

Interesting video. I had (open mesh plug & patch modified technique) surgery self funded nearly 10 months ago as elective surgery here in UK is pretty poor at moment (1+yr wait minimu) besides paying into the system for 36 years. I had a 1cm indirect inguinal defect and a lipoma (which was removed) I'm 54kg 52 years old and at the time of hernia was running about 30+ miles a week. After surgery it was painful for about a week or two I stated walking the next day and within a few weeks was up to about 5-7 miles a day. It was 6 weeks before I started running again which was gentle and short for a week or two and kept to no more than 3 miles at an easy pace for 6 months before any speed work or longer distance and even now not gone below a 6min mile pace other than the odd short interval session. I also find doing shorter runs more often instead of longer runs seems to help things too. Sitting, bending and certain clothing has usually made things more uncomfortable for me. Only really started to loosen up at about 6-7 months and still get uncomfortable days now and then. I'm sure things will continue to improve for you as you describe similar discomfort to my own and likewise I'd sooner put up with slight discomfort from scar tissue etc. than a hernia that could strangulate. I had an excellent and very experienced surgeon with over 3500 of these procedures to his name and very high success rate . Best wishes

What I'm gathering watching a bunch of these videos is that hernia surgery is more complex and difficult than one would expect. Maybe it's best to go to a hernia clinic instead of a general surgeon where hernia surgery is basically all they do and is their specialty.

I've had 2 inguinal hernia repairs several years ago, at different times. Mine were done laparoscopically and I did have some soreness for the first few days, but it wasn't bad at all. Nothing at all like you described. In fact, I've had several surgeries, (knees, shoulders, appendix) and I felt the hernia repairs were easier than the others.

Dr. Dave although I appreciate your advice, have given a thumbs up, and agree we need to get much better at treating causes, people like me are forced to seek out over the counter solutions to treat corns and calluses because we simply can't afford to see a podiatrist. So if you have any advice other than "don't use the pads and see your podiatrist" i.e. what is safe to bring relief while we save up for a podiatrist appointment and new shoes, that would be very welcome. We want to follow your advice and do the right thing but many of us have to save up for weeks or months to get things taken care of in the health care system. Sadly it's a case of the haves and have nots.

I’m 2 weeks post surgery . I was NOT prepared for the pain of day two through day 7 . I couldn’t even lift my feet to get on the bed , I was screaming in pain and needed assistance . Needed assistance to get to the bathroom also. I still have a severe stabbing pain in my left testicle and penis , the doctor said that is caused by nerve damage and will hopefully go away . I’m still taking stool softeners to this day for the pain of straining is awful . I’ve been shot in combat and had some severe injuries but I’ve never felt pain like this before , thank God it’s starting to ease up on day 14 .

I’m day ten out from open mesh at age 66. Virtually no pain at this point. Might feel the nerve pain in the morning on occasion or when putting shoes on etc. life long weightlifter, but my days of intense training on anything are over. I’m still plan to lift, but with lighter weight and more reps. I took up a new hobby of playing a musical instrument. You’re younger than I am, but with your reoccurrence, you might reconsider intense biking as a hobby. My surgeon explained to me that even with a successful repair, scar tissue is only 85% as strong, and even less if repaired a second time.

Thank you for sharing these videos about your inguinal hernia. I had lariscopic surgery done 15 months ago. The bulge disappeared shortly afterwards but most of the symptoms continued. I've since had two CT scans, an ultrasound and a lariscopic examination of the mesh repair and inguinal canal. They found a small lipoma which was removed however the original symptoms are still continuing. I'm really clutching at the straws as all the tests and exams are not showing any kind of problem.

Hi Doc. I'd have preferred NO PAIN to very little pain after 4 months... I've read about so many patients that experience pain after some weeks when the doctors generally say "the procedure is very simple", "you go home the same day" or "you can drive the day after the surgery". They seem to ignore what patients say. I've also read 2 or 3 studies reporting pain/discomfort 5 years after the surgery in about 20% of the patients. 5 years after the surgery. Can you just imagine? 😮 Frightening.

@@frugalfoot4973 i understand completely, one of the lads here on youtube that is belt and symptom free also competes in Muay Thai so his body takes some damage. Most of the excersises are breath work, posture related and vacuum poses. Not necessarily ab work but deeper core work. Its worth a shot, the excersises wont add muscle mass just strengthen the tissue above the inguinal which allows scar tissue to form over time. about 15 mins of these basic targetted excersis per week helps (im 4 months in and tennis ball on the inguinal also extending into my testesvto a half a golf ball size, when it does pop out which is hardly ever)

Hey Doc. I have a question. So I specifically searched this, I was wondering if I could wear AFO braces with sandals like this?
@frugalfoot4973
@frugalfoot4973 Ай бұрын
Hi Ellen: An AFO is typically dispensed with the idea that it is going to be worn in a well constructed shoe with a deep heel and sturdy counters. I have never given permission to any of my patients to wear their AFO in a sandal. Best thing to do is to discuss this with your doctor who prescribed it and speak to the lab that dispensed it. Ask them to watch the video and ask them if they think it is appropriate for your own situation.
