What even! This is such an awesome tutorial. Pretty basic in terms of the waves used. But some awesome sound design. Just goes to show how the wavetables don’t have to be crazy to get amazingly hard hitting and nasty sound design!
@Iceshrooms6 жыл бұрын
agreed. I heavily underestimated basic shapes but now I know you can get some crazy shit by messing with filters and post processing
@cody426936 жыл бұрын
If you guys want a more scientific explanation, it's all sine waves. Square, Saw, and Triangle waves are a bunch of little sine waves. Dope right? In fact a lot of your growly sounds come from a distorted sine wave.

Reason is a beast for making music. I strictly use Reason and have been for over 15 years. I do now use serum in it since VSTs are able to be used but Reason by itself is enough to make quality music out of the box. I love it.

Yea im so confused how he's using thor as the carrier for the vocoder. I thought you needed an actual audio track for the vocoder? Can anyone explain the cv routing?
@chud-dot-us-dot-gov6 жыл бұрын
Just plug the left audio output of the pitch modulated Thor into the modulator input on the vocoder.
@tylerkiley64883 жыл бұрын
Yea, I still don’t understand the routing... I understand carrier and modulator inputs something is still not right.... It kinda works but I swear the front is the same but just a peak at the back of the rack WOULD ACTUALLY BE GOLD! Dope sound, wish I could do it... Been here since reason 2.5 lol

yo im trying to recreate this bass, and i cant seem to figure out where that distortion is coming when he starts using the band-pass, it looks like he has a basic sine wave, and then there some random magic distortion when he shows the band-pass. Does anyone know?
@horballi28475 жыл бұрын
you can recreate the fm distortion in ableton, but when you started to use the bandpass filter, then it will sounds different. ex when he playing with the bandpass filter knob, the transitional part sounds watery, but if you wanna do this in ableton, then it will sound like you just moving a simple filter.

with saturator you can make it to sound like fm distortion. for the type swith to "waveshaper", set the lin to 0%, turn up "drive" & "curve" to 100, and "base" to 36. if this isn't sounds good, then you can play with the knobs

Yikes, reason is weird. Props for being able to do such great work with it.
@d-x3m8455 жыл бұрын
it's not weird at all, it's just like real machines connected with real cables, and it's all not that hard. any device looks like it's typical real life clone. I think stuff like FL and ableton are weird. I guess each it's preference, but i've been messing around with reason since the 3rd installment

Could you have a synth modulation another synth like this in ableton?
@NOLINK746 жыл бұрын
yeah you owuld have to have the vocodr set to external and run the sound of Synt_02(modulator) into the vocoder that is effecting(or modulating) your main sound, which in this video was that sine wave.
@cody00066 жыл бұрын
Phorella thanks friend. So have the vocoder on the 1st channel but have it run external modulation of a second channel which is another sine wave?
@NOLINK746 жыл бұрын
Anytime, not just another sine but the square plus the sine like what was stated in the video. The moduar (that goes into the vocoder) is the second version of thor in the video.

That might be the most intimidating vst I've ever seen
@doodoostickstain5 жыл бұрын
it's not a VST. it's a full blown DAW., designed specifically to mimic real rack-based studio hardware, complete with cable routing. if you can do Reason, you can walk into a rack studio and be at home. It was industry standard at one point.
@NOLINK746 жыл бұрын

how so? It's better than seeing "HOW TO MAKE SKRILLEX GROWL" for the hundreded time. Like we get it use a wavetable that is really good. Not much learning has to do with that tbh. Sound design is more than just the wavetable in serum

Noah Thomas you don’t need a serum tutorial for this bass. If you follow his instructions and try to replicate it in serum you could get the same sound.

@cody426936 жыл бұрын
It's just distorted sine waves with a BP filter sweep, distortion, and vocoding. Can be done in any DAW and any VST. If the terms confused you, you need to learn what he's talking about before attempting it. Trust me. I started not knowing any terminology and it took sooo long to understand.
