Heroes in History: Warmongers

[Note: I am aware of the odd video pauses in the beginning of the video. It's too late to fix them now, but know I'll be more careful in the future]
Here by popular demand, it's time for the next Heroes in History: The Warmongers! Our beloved warmongers take center stage as we discuss their historical counterparts: the landsknecht.
I find it so funny, because on my discord, a lot of folks were just saying she's a Warden 2.0, and as such is just based on gothic knights. Well I believe I can make the case that she's based on much more than that. Let me know what ya'll think!

To give you more information on your point about Warmommys armor: The warmongers "transformation is materialized through the forging of their blade and armor. Most of the Warmongers use materials from their past gear to reforge a new armor. Some take the gear from their greatest enemy (as the great Apollyon once did) and adjust it to their needs. All of their armor are also imbued with the power of the "Sacred Stone of Horkos," known as Draconite, that helps them spread the Corruption on the battlefield."

I haven’t seen anyone mention this, but the video mentioned that the landsknecht would adopt the techniques of the Swiss guard and use it against them. Warmonger fights like a warden but has some techniques that look taken from other enemies. Most notably her charging an enemy into the wall with her sword after a parry, the same way lawbringers do. Feels like this really helps to drive home on the landsknecht origins.

Landsknechte and warmongers Are verry different For example the weapons Landsknechte: lance/Pike Warmonger: Anderthalbhänder(Sword) Also the look and the armor Are verry different 'cause the Landsknechte Are from the Late 15th and 16th Century And the wormonger Looks like the 14th or the begining of the 15th Century And please sorry for my Bad english Im German and I try to deffend our history 🙂

Yes youre Right I know which weapons they use but she could be inspired from every single Art of Warriors like you say… She could be also inspired from a normal No Name Warriors with armor and sword or from a normal Standard guard for example cause they use all them weapons too

Alittle bit of Lore The law bringer Apollyon killed was the same law bringer that deemed her village not important to defend from viking invasion. So technically it wasent that he was weak, it was a bit of a grudge

Actually, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet but Warmonger's corruption feets actually play into this greatsword wielding "landsknecht" origin. The main effect of corruption in her kit breaks up the enemies ability to gang up on your teammates, a foundational principal in Italian and Spanish greatsword systems. Even in landsknecht tactics, it's argued that the "Doppelsoldner," the individual members of the regiment armed with halberds and greatswords used their weapons to cover the wings of the formation or to open holes in enemy formations to be exploited by the rest of the unit.

As much as I cringe every time I hear "Warmommy" I gotta say this is by far one of your better videos, I always thought the Warmongers had a very "Anti-knight" vibe to them and often times were very flamboyant and/or "show-off" like in their own right compared to like Warden for example, so I agree, the Landsknecht seem to be the best comparison to the Warmongers stylistically and spiritually, maybe not ideologically the same though.

Zweihänder is a german word. It literally means "two-handed" which very likely comes from the fact that it was a type of sword which is to be used with tow hands. Just wanted to spill this info.

you said that landsknecht taken swiss pikmen's strenghts and used against them, in the game there is a similare thing with lawbringer and warmonger, they both have the same parry punish, only differens is that lb guarantees a heavy while warmonger does bleed, but they both poke you and push you to a wall. Could be just a coincidence but i don't think so.

There is nothing in the lore stating that warmongers are female only, so it is possible there are males. Although not the greatest evidence for it being possible, we do know that despite being male locked, there are female highlanders since it's referenced from some lore from an order.

Its all accurate expect that there ARE males in the warmongers. The devs specifically said there were but told us they decided not to make a playable male due to time and money which when translated from excuse to truth they basically told us that they were too lazy to do it. As a matter of fact the male was already voice acted and in the original Testing Grounds where you first get to play against warmonger you can here a male and female warmonger as if they are in a fight. So yes. They do exist. And yes. When they let us down that was the primary upset of us players at the time if her release.

sorry dude but i think that under any definition it is not. bastard swords as you said can be used one handed and thus tend to be shorter than longswords while warmoms sword is clearly larger and cannot be used one handed, its just she that holds it that way to show of her strength and mastery of the weapon and even then she uses both her hands when atacking around 80% of the time. and when discussing the size of her sword i dont really get why so many people believes it to be too small for a zweihander, warmommy is definitely around 1.80, 1,90 m tall and if it were not for angle it would be easily seen her sword is as tall as she is wich is about an acceptable size for a real usable zweihander (her at rest animation when putting her sword on the floor may be deceiving as im pretty sure has the tip being buried on the ground) however the problem comes when cmparing a zweihander on the shorter side of its scale to a roster o oversized weapons and most importantly the way she uses it as if it where just a longsword or indeed a bastard sword instead of the significantly more flambuoyant zweihander tecniques that actually imply a lot of twirling around fantasy style

as for the landsknecht, i guess it was only a matter of time for mercenaries to run out of fashion. machiavelli hated the idea of using mercs - most would fight only when they were sure they would win, and their clients had no certainty of loyalty, because they could be bought off by others. still, for lack of another term... they are pretty cool and only now have i learned of them, thank you

I think you got confused abt the greatsword and the bearing sword.The greatsword was a sword used in battle to deal with pikeman and lightly armoured apponants, and due to the weight was not used fpr duels like a longsword, meanwhile the bearing sword was is basically a giant version of a longsword and was larger then a greay sword above the height of someone .These sword where used in parades and to also show the wealthy but for in battle they were never used.

@@RavenKnightYT hey man i just wanted to say that i dont think warmommys sword is actually too small fo a zweihander given its around as tall as she is (something ive seen playing a lot with her ingame wich actually wasnt all that easy as the angles and the way she posses the thing seem to almost be intentionaly making the blade appear smaller) and warmommy is cited as being 1.90 m tall wich wouldnt be unacceptably small for a greatsword

"Weapons of choice (for the Landsknechts) were the pike (5m/18’ long), the halberd (poleaxe) and the zweihänder (two-handed) sword. Let's try another.
