About the bullet to the head. Believe it or not contrary to what we know from video games headshots don't necessarily mean death. There are many cases of people who survived getting shot in the head. In Rex's case it seemed like only parts of his auditory cortex and occipital lobe were damaged. This was just another showcase of the indomitable human spirit trope
@lucasmaloneywordsmith86614 ай бұрын
Not even just indomitable human spirit. Humans have so much brain mass that if damage to it isn't immediately fatal (like from an explosion or a very large caliber bullet, or some other brain destroying impact), we can usually survive as long as it doesn't hit the medulla. Granted we'll have lasting brain damage and handicaps, but we will be alive. Lizard King's bullet went through the outside lobes on one side with a handgun, so I wasn't terribly surprised when he got back up for about a minute before losing consciousness from blood loss.

A lot of people said Phineas was a completely different person even down to his mannerisms.
@SuperDrocket4 ай бұрын
I think Rex's personality change started before he was shot in the head. It probably started when he found out that Dupli-Kate was sleeping with Immortal, and suddenly he found himself on the wrong side of being cheated on. I think its important to remember that Rex is pretty young and immature at the start of the show. We're basically watching him (and other characters, especially Invincible) grow up as the show goes on. Getting shot in the head certainly sped things up for Rex, but I don't think it's because of any sort of brain damage. He's just getting older and growing as a person. That's really one of the primary themes of the entire comic book series: that people can change and become better.

Surprisingly, people survive bullets to the head more than you'd think. It's also worth noting that the caliber of the bullet (and a lot of other ballistics stuff, tbh) is very relevant here. For example, I think this is the Zodiac Killer (if I'm wrong and it's another killer someone let me know lol), but I recall a famous serial killer having surprisingly low lethality in his first couple murders because he was using a small caliber gun, to the point that I think one survivor had been shot a bunch of times, still lived for several hours, got taken to a hospital, and lived. Granted that wasn't in the head but I think it goes to illustrate that the gun used, the ammo used, and a lot of other factors make gun violence a vastly more complicated subject than it looks like it would be in games and movies. Also while Rex isn't necessarily Super Durability Guy I think he IS actually stronger and more durable than a normal human, just nowhere near as much as some of the tankier characters and it's not his main thing. *edit: I'd say calling him surviving this "miraculous" is entirely fair, it's just worth noting that it's the kind of very lucky thing that absolutely does happen. It's a bit on the rare side, but it's a thing. source: many years of writing stories that contained at least a little bit of gun violence, i'm by no means an authority but man you learn a lot of wild stuff

@Sanguinius876 The brain doesn't fully form til 25. Dupli Kate is eighteen. Maybe 20 if being generous. Barely even legal for ANYONE, still filled with teenage hormones, not that many years life experience, and a not fully formed brain ehich shows since she has that teenage attitude that she already knows everything about the world. I would have problems with a thirty year old dating somebody that young Due to the unequal power dynamic her age causes. If she was twenty five I'd be more okay with it. It's not about him being thousands of years old, it's about him dating somebody who's still essentially a teenager. I would be fine if he dated somebody like 25- 40. I'm scared for you and all of the people that agree that there should be such a strong age gap between a teenager and adult, and I think most media is disgusting and toxic for repeatedly paring teen girls with men thousands of years older. That apparently every single immortal person wants a teenager and not an adult if they're a man sets a bad precedent in our society that normalizes men the age of a girls dad to think it's okay to take advantage of fresh out of highschool girls. That this is a specifically a double standard forced upon women. Which helps with the social double standard that men are supposed to only want really really young girls, and only really young girls who are barely legal. Women who are old enough to understand what they want have no value cause they aren't teenagers. I've literally heard 40 old men say they would never date anybody over twenty. It's creepy that society has set a precedent that a girl freshly out of high school is the most attractive age to date, and that if she gains any more life experience after that she's become tainted and is no longer desirable. Literally all of this would have gone away if they simply aged Kate's character up more..
@sardonicus17394 ай бұрын
@@MalkuthSephira No one over 30 should date anyone under 20. Period. They're still a teenager with teenage hormones with almost no experience as an adult (like hell. Most 18 year olds are still in HIGH SCHOOL, or just going to college for the first time, and have no experience with being an adult), and who don't even have a fully formed brain yet as that happens at 25. This doesn't have to do with him being immortal but with her being insanely young for anyone with a major age gap to date, and creates an obvious power imbalance which is why most people would instinctively cringe watching a 40 year old man pick up his 18 year old girlfriend up from the local highschool. I'd be fine with it if she was over 25 as that's the age a person becomes a fully formed adult, with the same mental capacity as all other adults over that age but not a barely legal teenager. The fact that's okay with you says something bad about you as a person that you think people over 30 should date teenagers.

9:36 It actually happened in history, that people get shot in the head and survive, and that adrenaline is pumping them that whole time, so they can continue moving to a certain limit, and later are brought to the hospital and survive. In the show it's a bit exaggerated, but it's not completely impossible, only in special cases possible.
@Syntex3667 күн бұрын
Honestly the show didn’t even exaggerate. Phineas Gage is the most famous example of this kind of brain trauma being non-lethal. In the mid 1840’s, he was working on railroad construction and was tamping blast powder into a hole. As he did this, the powder ignited and shot the tamping iron like a bullet clean through his skull. He dropped on the ground motionless for about a minute, then managed to stand up and even speak coherently. He was even able to walk to a nearby doctor and recount his accident to said doctor as he stood there baffled. While Gage did suffer severe alterations to his personality and ability to function socially, most notably losing his ability to comprehend empathy and inability to have an “internal monologue” meaning he said anything he thought out loud like the worlds worst case of Tourette’s, he managed to go on living for over a decade and even began to healthfully adjust to his conditions before complications of the injury caused him to have a lethal seizure. And this was in the mid-1800’s, where they had zero idea how to patch something like that up properly. Him surviving even more than a week is incredible, let alone a decade.

I know a lot of people have already said that regular humans can survive shots to the head, but not a lot have really said why and there's 2 main reasons. The first is our skulls are REALLY GOOD at their job. They aren't just hard with some shock absorption to help out, but the fact that it is nearly round means it is great at deflecting blows or projectiles to the side. You can even see in this scene that while Rex had the gun *almost* against his head execution style, there was still some space and the bullet ended up being on the side of his skull instead of coming out between his eyes. The other big thing is that while our brains are obviously important and any removal will have some impact, there are spots that you can technically still live without. So you have the skull minimizing loss and the "maybe that part wasnt vital for survival" luck of the draw working together, plus adrenaline for Rex's Revenge. Edit: that being said between the stomach slash, missing hand, and bullet hole to the head he should have been out from blood loss.

Just saying, people have survived gun shots to the head, it depends where you hit them. However Rex was experimented on an altered as a child, he isn’t totally human. He’s a supercharge man, all of his human abilities are at peak. So he runs as fast as a human can, not super human speed, just fastest sprinter. He’s as tough as a person can get and as strong as a person can get without crossing into “superhuman” territory. He is humanity at its peak, we can most likely assume Kate using the clones with Immortal was a gift to him, but Kate using the clones with Rex was because one wasn’t enough 😂

Kate and immortal were super close because they had both experienced death numerous times and the fact that some of the "best" human bonding can, and does happen during times of great stress, loss, and conflict. Immortal feels that they both had a certain understanding of life and death that it made them more understanding of one another.

Wow that was the most slow reaction ive ever seen to Rexes head shot. For most other reactors ive seen as soon as the gun goes off everyone immediately switched to the 😲 on the spot, that ive personally commented in those videos finding amusement in them. But these two reacted with slow expression change of "...huh?" Though i noticed Montana caught herself and went straight to the 🤔 face. 😂😂

Rex has some superpowers, I don''t remember exactly what it is from the comics but he's like Gambit from X-Men and he has superior physical abilities than a regular human. He should be more resistant. I hope they do make a pre-history episode about him like they did to eve. He's pretty important in the overall story

the bullet hole is in the very corner of his head, you can clearly see its not directly through the brain, you can survive in real life with that angle of brain damage but you will never be the same

32:55 This shows why many of us hate the Amber from the first season. Obviously, it's understandable that she feels a little hurt that Mark didn't trust her and tell her that he's Invincible (but let's keep in mind that it's a very big secret and he didn't feel ready to share something like that, and that's respectable. Everyone has their own time). But the problem comes especially in the episode 6 from the 1st season (The one about the cyborgs attacking the university) where she is very critical of him even though she knew about his secret and he did everything he could to help and save other people. Many try to justify it by saying that Amber is a teenager and although she is, throughout the first season she is portrayed as a mature girl with a lot of emotional intelligence (but it is in that episode that image falls apart because they show her as a jerk), but we also have to consider that Mark is a teenager too and on top of all that he is also going through other situations and responsibilities because he is a superhero.

My guess for why Immortal was devestated by Kate's death was in the line "I thought we had more time". All his previous loves lived full lives and passed away. Kate was killed and her life cut short

Daniel von Bargen is a relatively famous actor who got shot in the head (not wanting to suffer from complications of diabetes), then called 911 himself and actually endured it much better than Rex in the show. He lived for three more years before dying from the aforementioned complications. According to statistics, the survival rate after a gunshot wound to the head is about 5 percent. But only 3 percent are able to restore the normal functioning of the brain and the body as a whole. And it also depends on the caliber, the location of the hit, the trajectory and other factors (Rex got a relatively good situation, the American railroad worker Phineas Gage in 1848 survived after being hit in the head with a crowbar three centimeters thick and lost 4% of the cerebral cortex and 11% of the white matter, and then lived for another 12 years working as a coachman and being on a good account with your employer)

Many people have survived being shot in the head. All it has to do is go through the right parts of the brain, and the right gun. As long as you avoid the parts of the brain that regulate things like your heartbeat and breathing, you can survive with entire sections of the brain just missing. One of the first things that you're taught in psychology is about Phineas Gage. The man who survived a large rod going through his head. He survived the incident but it changed his personality. He became more impulsive and irritable as his frontal lobe was damaged.

There are actually quite a few stories of people surviving GSW to the head! In fact there's a few stories of people walking around and talking before medical intervention! It's usually bc the bullet exits the skull too, instead of being lodge inside the brain, and it also didn't hit any fatal parts of the brain, which tbh, just boils down to *pure dumb luck* . DGMW There will be brain damage afterwords, and a long healing process, but recovery stories of up to 90% functionality DO exist! It's very fascinating! The fact about the Nobel Peace Prize inventor is so sad when you realize dynamites original intended use, was for construction and creating tunnels for mining. It was truly meant to be helpful to the working class's hard labor, and it was twisted into weapons. He would've had every right to keep his money, and hide since he never tried to make it a weapon. But instead, he worked even harder to make a positive lasting impact on the world. Full respect to him.

As people have said, there are survivors of gunshot wounds to the head. Also, the TV show has not shown that Rex is tougher than a normal human. This is made clear in the comics.

I think that Omni-Man wrote the books as a way to help earth trust him and the empire when they came. As a, look how dangerous the universe is and how we are the only ones who can protect you, kind of thing. And when that didn't work, he stopped.
@SuperDrocket4 ай бұрын
Possibly, but personally I think it was more just that he needed money. A regular 9-5 job was kind of out of the question, and while he might be able to get a job being paid by Cecil/the government, that tends to come with the attached strings that Mark has been trying to avoid. Being an author is a pretty good choice: with super speed, he can probably knock them out in a day or two, maybe less, and writing sci-fi books is easy for him because he doesn't really need any sort of 'inspiration' to come up with stories, he just takes actual events from his life in space and adapts them. When the sci-fi book route doesn't work out (they apparently don't sell well), he winds up writing travel guides, which again for him are super easy.

Although not usually at such a close range, shots to the head are actually not as fatal(statistically) as people thing. Often times, the bullet just curves around the outside of the skull and the primary damage is a concussion. Other times, the bullet passes through parts of the brain cause damage, but not destroying anything vital and the other parts of the brain adapt to fill in for the damaged parts. However, given the range at which Rex was shot, it's safe to just say that he's about the luckiest sob you can imagine.

My guess is that they'll maybe do a Rex Splode Special between S2 and S3, because Rex isn't just a human that can make stuff explode. He does have some level of toughness higher than that of a normal human (though nowhere near as strong as Immortal or Monster Girl, for example). Plus, as others have mentioned, regular humans HAVE survived 9mm shots to the head and brain before. His backstory is actually sad af, but I don't wanna spoil anything in case they DO decide to do a Rex Splode Special. Also the awkwardness with Eve was also in S1 lol. After the fight with Doc Seismic in S1, she does lean in for a hug, but Mark bolts back to his date with Amber before anything happens. She also confides in Mark after Rex cheats on her. They don't spend too long on their friendship in S1, but in the comics they spend more time as superhero friends operating out of the same highschool

Immortal and Kate understood each other on a level that only they can. They both knew what it was like to die over and over and over again, and keep living. It's why he referred to her as a "kindred soul" and why her death is hitting so much harder than those of his previous lovers.

Point blank shot to the head would mean it would likely not ricochet around like if he was shot from a distance. Factor in the fact that Rex is a super human like Captain America which I think we're getting a standalone like Atom Eve before or during season 3 of Invincible that should explain his back story more.

One time a guy in real life got lit up by a firing squad and then the squad officer shot him in the head with his pistol to make sure he was dead... Only the guy wasn't dead, he played dead until the squad left and then managed to crawl away and find medical attention. You can survive and in rare cases even remain active after a pistol round through the dome, Rex just got lucky.

People can survive gunshots to the head. The spot you have to hit to guarantee a kill is actually small. Granted most people don't survive. But you see the shot was off to the side. Not down the middle. So it's actually feasible that he survived

You can be shot in the head and live, it’s surprising what humans can do so imagine a super one. My great uncle (May he rest in peace, he died this year) was shot in the head and has a very noticeable scar but he died like many years later.

There's actually several circumstances that help Rex survive a bullet to the head: - Lizard King is all talk. And LAZY. He didn't place the gun directly to Rex's head. - People in real life have survived bullets to the head when it deflected off the skull, travelling under the scalp to push out through the skin on the other side. Much like Rex's wound did here. - Rex DOES have somewhat enhanced durability when it comes to his explosion powers, which might have helped. - The dazed state and blurry vision Rex suffers while dealing with King Lizard fits someone who suffered a concussion he would suffer from the impact, even if it didn't penetrate better than actual missing brain matter.
