You get to see what strategies against Malthael lead to as well as the things the Malthael player can do even if he is losing. A very full hands on experience on a certain hero I'd say.

Just wanna toss out there that 'On a Pale Horse' has the highest winrate of the tier 1 talents at the time I'm watching this. It's what I usually take - because rotating faster is pretty good and generally you can use your 'W' to pass through units just fine. You can also use it to run in and right-click someone (so your E can be for catching up if they flee instead of your initiator).

I usually find the least played specs/talents/ulties to be the most rewarding. Gives you feeling of "creating something new" and pretty often surprises your enemies. E.G. ETC Stage Dive + Death Metal, Nydus before it was cool and the things you mentioned :)

Die Alone and Soul Siphon can make Malthael INCREDIBLY bursty. It's not as good for team fights but there are few people who can survive 1v1 when you can burst for ~20% of their life on top of autoattacks and trait ticks. With Last Rites you just have to get them to 33% life and you win (which can snowball out of control at 20 with Angel of Death). Again, it has its place (probably when grouped with all sustain dps), but don't underestimate his burst potential when spec'd that way. I can take most tanks in about 2 rotations, and for most of that they're running away ^_^

The thing I think Pally isn't quite understanding is that Malth will ALWAYS take about the same amount of time to kill every hero since Malth's damage comes from his passive, which always does 2.5% max health damage per application. He can't burst someone down like Karrigan. Malth can help heroes like Karrigan kill high health targets. (This is all just speculation based off of what I have seen i the stream as I have yet to play Malth for myself. However, I do feel that he is not suited for the play style of a traditional assassin.)

The best way to escape the Azmo laser, geometrically speaking, is to run perpendicular to the tangent of the circle. That is to say, run directly away from him. There were a few times were your escapes were suboptimal, and you were running parallel with him. That makes it easy for him to just cut across and keep you in the circle. That being said, you're only just barely fast enough to escape, so it takes a lot of precision.

Malthael actually kills lower health people faster, low max health doesn't in of itself counter him! His passive would kill everyone at the same time if no other damage is present. However his auto's aren't too low and his q does some damage, so he kills lower max health people faster. People with low max health just so happen to counter Malthael due to in general for having such low max health they instead have high mobility, high damage (dps or burst), or in the case of murky extreme health regen/invulnerability while having a strong slow. I find I can kill targets like a Li Ming even without Die Alone, just as Malthael one has to focus on weaving and picking the right moments to all in. If you play him like a Greymane (I know your example is different and it is true) you will fail.

Joseph Gallagher In term of balance, you lose some, you gain some. Durability, dmg, range, accuracy, mobility, sustain, CC or unique ability (global presence, health shredding, invisibility, invincibility). In Matty' case, his dmg and sustain is based on the enemy HP. No HP no dmg.

I've spammed him a ton in QM, easily my favorite hero, while yes he can seem squishy I feel like he's still fairly strong(With weaknesses of course, aka: murky tracer as mentioned) Masacre kinda just sucks with tormented souls because it mostly overlaps with it, plus you're losing soul collector or meme-nto mori for it which both are just absolutely insane. Edit: didn't watch the video till the very end just realized you mentioned this. Great video though!

I really enjoy playing Malthael. After a few games Q build is what I had the most success with. Lower cooldown, more healing, more damage and most importantly the slow is so damn strong. I don't know what Pally wanted to say which build is the most common because he never finished his sentence... o.O @4:17 seriously Pally.

I'm surprised he didn't mention the anti-heal on everyone he hits with his trait for the Variable in 7. That's pretty amazing if you're dealing with a high AOE healing person like Auriel and you're able to dive in, cutting her or Uther's healing down by a ton is pretty great. Pop it whenever the enemy has their heal off CD and boop em all with your team. Now is that better than cold hand? Probably not in most situations, but when it's useful it's great.

Malthael is one of the best camp takers imo, for siege you get some damage, but not that much, and you can take bruiser with minimal damage if you do that right, you just have to hit the camp mobs alternately to keep your trait on them (just go in circles clockwise or counter-clockwise) and spam q to heal (if you time it right you can heal from all 4 of the mobs). especially after 16 with memento mori, then he's quick too.

I mean, every enemy hero in that first game counters Malthael in some way. Nova is just low health, Tracer can rewind, Zul'jin slowly gets stronger and then kills you before you're trait ticks him down and Alarak can just pop counterstrike whenever. That leaves Leoric, but because of his slows and percentage based damage, he kinda does the same thing as you, but with an escape.

I feel like a mistake I see a lot of new Malthael's doing is feeling like they have to constantly reapply their trait every tick. I feel like you just need to reapply your trait every 3-4 seconds, or 5-6 seconds once you hit your lvl4 quest. I think once you open yourself up to this idea, you can suddenly choose other traits that aren't just about applying your trait every second.

I think you have the wrong idea about Die Alone. The single target damage is great for duels through the entire game and lets you get ahead in the laning phase. The way I think of it is that his passive only lasts 4 seconds and you're not going to burst someone down in that time, so you keep it on one person for trades and burst then you use his E for AOE heals. Trust me, play it very aggressively and you'll see what I'm saying.

So HOTLOGS has had audio ads for a while. On more than on occasion I would be asleep and then I would be woken up and scared to death by this loud ass audio and I had no idea what was going on. Because of this I don't use the site as much. I like the data I get from it but I don't keep it open to remind myself to use it now since I don't like having a heart attack at 3 am.

i was excited for this hero. i even bought him for 15k, instead of waiting for the price drop. maybe i'm missing something but he seems really weak. the healing is great but he doesn't seem to do much beside that. i can barely go in and have to spam death shroud instead. death shroud barely has any talents though and one is in competition with black harvest, which means it won't be picked. he seems to need a team built around him, which super sucks.

Something I don't understand when people say Murky is a counter cause his health is low. % of max Hp is the same % regardless of health total. The dot kills murky the same rate as a Stitches. Everything else deals more overall to his total than high health people.

Time to kill a Murky (barring his Bubble of course) is faster than killing a tank. Your autos and Q deal proportionally more to his, or any squishy's low health than to a tank. Your passive deals "less" but a % is a %. Your healing doesn't come from damage. Though yes, you are healing less because the healing is scaled on his health.

The reason Malthael cant kill murky isnt because his %life damage is too low, if anything, his damage is a consistently higher percentage of his life due to the low life pool of the murky and the additional damage of his auto attacks, the real issue is that murky has an extremely high health REGEN amount. Think of it like this, no matter what health amount, % life will always kill in the same time period, but if you add auto attack it changes. With high health, comes high % damage, with comparably low AA damage, but with low health you get high comparable AA damage due to the technically lower % damage. This means that a low health target with low regen will be killed faster than a high health target any level of regen. But if a hero, like murky, cant counter the overtime damage with a comparable heal over time of health regen, or ANY SELF HEAL, you basically counter Malthael. If you get a Malthael on an enemy teams draft, then start picking self heal heroes and you will never have to worry again, or possibly even a secondary healer like Kharazim or Brightwing.

I'm really struggling with Malthael. I really like him a lot, think he's incredibly fun to play. But the problem is that every single raned squishy seems to be able to counter me. I know it's probably an issue with my skill when it comes to movement but I am basically helpless unless I have an enemy tank to leech off of or a friendly healer to pocket me (in either case, I can get a ton of work done). Unfortunately there is almost always some kind of ranged glass cannon that can obliterate my hp before I have a chance to even enter the fight. Any tips to help me learn how to battle against ranged assassins?

What's an even bigger issue is the fact that every single Azmodan always runs his laser build now. I can count on one hand the number of them I've seen running his Q build ever since they improved his laser. Also, Hotslogs has been shit ever since he started doing the ads thing. Like, I understand needing to make some income. But at the very least you can fucking improve your website responsiveness, since you insist on having 4 moving adds going on at once. I can't even open the damn website any more because it crashes the fuck out of Firefox and Chrome.
