I feel like this helps when you are in combat and it takes 10+ minutes for it to be your turn again and you roll a nat1 and basically your turn is over and you have to wait another 10+ minutes. At least here you got inspiration to look forward to next turn

This is why it helps to use teamwork when in combat. Your allies should help you if something like that happens. Yeah, Nat 1's suck but sometimes that's the fun. That you got a nat one and have to deal with it later. It just feels like ok we have to give you something for rolling bad. Here you go inspiration. I understand that it sometimes does work that way, but it also works in the opposite way as well.

It's all good. I don't give Inspiration as it is, won't be implementing this either. :D

If your character wasn’t inspired by their failure… just don’t use your inspiration :/ This allows player pacing because FAILING AND CONTINUING TO FAIL SUCKS, It’s boring. If you want that to be your story then just don’t use the inspiration. If you can’t get on let this as a DM… either not relying on rolls for things that will just disappoint you… or allowing your players to shape the narrative then you might want to just write a book.

That's funny. I like that. But you miss the point. It has nothing to do with the fact that it sucks. I understand that it sucks. It understand I can choose not to use it in a game. But if it is apart of the basic rules then players will argue about it not being in the game. I ran into that problem with flanking. - The bigger picture is that failure can lead to better things and sometimes a better story. If we just keep giving players all the advantages, then why even roll dice? Let's just sit around and tell the story. If failure isn't apart of the game, then there is no need for dice.

@@RulesLawyerDnD Failure is still inherently part of the game… part of this system. But prolonged failure is just unfun. If you just want there to be more risk just give them disadvantage on everything. That isn’t what makes the game fun… failure doesn’t make the game fun… having options in your storytelling does. So I’m that same vein so does giving player agency

Failure doesn't make the game fun. Having options does. This doesn't make sense to me. 01. Having options is great, but failure must be a part of that. 02. If there is no chance of failure, then there is no need for dice. 03. When I watch Crit Role, I honestly remember the nat 1s more than the nat 20s. 04. The reason I remember them more is because I remember what the players had to do to recover from that. 05. Just giving them advantage seems like a cop out to make the game easier. 06. Players remember the struggles and how they overcome them. Take away the struggle and you take away those moments. 07. I could be wrong but these are the experiences I've seen my players go through as well. Every table is different and have different experiences. To each their own.

@@RulesLawyerDnD 1. Failure doesn’t make the game fun, the chance of failure or narrative does. 2. Again, failure is an inherent part of the game.. giving someone advantage on things so they fail less doesn’t remove failure from the game. 3. Watching a show and playing a game is different. 4. I too remember how interesting the narrative of a tv show was. 5. If you just want a more difficult game then say that… 6. Letting you succeed on specific things you don’t want to narratively fail at because it makes for a poor experience doesn’t diminish that failure is still going to exist… it just diminishes the unfun failures. 7. You can just say “I like harder games where the characters fail more at critical times because I believe it makes the narrative better.” But again… failure isn’t fun, the narrative is fun. You can still have the narrative of failure without actually critically failing. (At least with significant fate and meaning)

See you and I see things differently. Yes failure is apart of the game, but to say failure isn't fun....come on now. 1. Failure is fun because of what you have to do to become successful. What did you do to overcome your failure. 2. This is why people play dark souls. 3. I don't want a harder game. Giving everyone disadvantage would be pointless as no one would want to play that game. Well most people. I want a balanced game. Because it sound to me like you like playing D&D on easy mode. So yes you can fail but there is a much lower percentage chance of that. If that's how you like to play then by all means play that way. 4. As a long time DM I've seen my players have way more fun when things are balanced. Because imagine playing D&D and you said let's just not care about bonuses. Anytime you roll a 3 or less you fail. This is the vibe your responses are giving me. Well if you ever roll a 1 then you can have advantage on any roll there after. Just play that way because that sounds a bit more accurate to what you want to experience. Nothing wrong with that just not balanced enough for me.
I tested 14 VTTs, this is the best one.
