Self-improvement is like gardening: You plant seeds and then tend to them regularly. The harvest of benefits comes much later, but there is a certain satisfaction one gets just from doing the work.

One of the first rewards we get is the feeling that we are on control of our own garden and are responsible for its harvest as well for its destruction.

I first read "SWITCH" and when he started talking about the Elephant and the Rider I was like "whaaaa?? Is he openly copying content???", started to google, but he soon begins to explain Chip and Dan asked to talk about his metaphor :D

I loved the Freudian slip “CBT is the best non therapy… non medication treatment” 😂😂😂 23:15… CBT is psycho education, not real psychotherapy. Mentalization based therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy is real psychotherapy and new psychotherapy trainees are missing the opportunity to learn real therapy and patients are getting quick fix and cheap 10 Session Mc Donald’s therapy which has been well demonstrated in research that has so much relapse… it’s also not true that we don’t know what “cures” In psychotherapy: what research says is that what cures is the therapeutic relationship; so reading a book is certainly not going to be helpful in the long run, although lonely, anxious people in need of therapy will believe that and go but the book… oh! And psychoanalysis has a much powerful metaphor than the elephant one: your mind is your mom/ caretaker and your body is your baby. And yes like Freud stated, 90% of our thoughts are unconscious, you treat it using awareness and developing a reflective mind, like a mom Does when attuning to their baby; not training it like a dog.

Haidt shouldn't worry too much about stealing that from Buddha. I don't think Buddha will sue him for copyright infringement.

I think that reflex breaking methods (EFT, Sedona Method, etc.) are much more effective for anxiety and other stable unpleasant emotional states than CBT.

+Brian Johnson I think it's true for everybody who has gotten proficient in those methods :) But yes, CBT can be useful too.

This guy is religious scholar nothing more. There is some basic common sense in some of what he says, but it seems heavily laced with nonsense. The CBT principles are true because ancient Greeks believed them? Nothing is really bad, it's just our thinking that makes it so? I'd love to hear them say that after being gang raped.
