Thank you for sharing. These videos have been helping me during my clinical practice. They are very educational, eye-opening, and I hope others can learn from Asha's story. Change is very difficult for most and some may see it as impossible. This is why prevention is so important. Our kids are the future and we need to not only educate them, but give them love and support growing up.

If these videos have taught me anything, its that if you love your kids and treat them like you love them, they'll probably be OK. If you treat them like crap, they will live an adulthood of various types of hell. The correlation between bad childhood and bad adulthood is undeniable. I wonder if that's why Mark always leads with the childhood question? Because he wants us all to know that we must treat our children with love, over all other considerations.

My youngest daughter 25 was hooked on Heroin and I didn't have a clue. She runs a cafe and so I started going in for lunch so I could see her and chat with her for a few. I noticed she was edgy,moody,itchy,unkept,dark circles under eyes,and had blotches on her usually perfect porcelain skin. I asked her if she was ok. She assured me that she was. That her and her boyfriend were both just working extra hard and extra hours to make ends meet. Of course after hearing that my husband and I would start bringing them groceries and loaning them money. Always seemed like $200 at a time. They always paid it back fast so I never questioned it. I didn't see my girl much that year...I text or called her..or dropped money off in her mailbox... And was getting worried and suspicious that more was up. Gut feeling. She was NEVER a party girl. More of a home body growing up. Left home at 22 to live with her boyfriend. Next thing I know she was calling me crying,bawling,asking for help..they were getting evicted,her boyfriend was caught selling drugs,they were just at the house turning it upside down and interagating her for the past 4hours,she was also pregnant! And worse she was using heroin. I was floored. I had no idea. Not even a clue. I didn't know a soul on heroin. Only read about it in the news. I was scared, no terrified for my girl. When she came to my door that day after that dreadful phonecall she was an empty shell of herself. Not the same vivrant,peppy,beautiful girl I saw months before. It was a long road ahead. Tho once her daughter was born my beautiful grandaughter....my girl stopped. She just had this awakening and knew that her baby was the miracle she needed to be strong enough to just stop and she did. Not that she doesnt battle that demon from time to time...she may never completely get over the craving for it. she just knows a little life depends on her and she's a great mom! I commend anyone out there who gets caught up in this devil's drug that ruins and takes lives! Trust that gut feeling mom and dad. And by the way...my girl and her boyfriend went to a friends house one night to pick him up to see a movie...the friends dad invited them in and turned them on to heroin. The Dad!!! That begun thier downward spiral of hell. It's every where. It isn't just a drug that poor, homeless,thugs do. Business owners,doctors,church goers,11 year olds......

She's right..cutting works just like any addiction, but it's never treated that way. I have cut for over 12 years, and also struggled with other addictions, and they work just the same for me. I've been in a few mental hospitals where people are always talking about their addictions to drugs and alcohol, but cutting is hardly recognized or spoken about at all. I remember my first time in the hospital it really upset me, because I realized I wasn't going to find help for it. They would have groups for drugs and drinking, but never cutting. Not even mentioned once... even with my arms bandaged and visible scars all over my body. No one saw it as an addiction on the same level. In some ways it is different, but the mechanism of addiction works just the same. I still struggle to this day and have made it almost 2 months now without cutting. Thank you for speaking on this. It made me feel just a little bit more validated in my struggle.

Got to talking to him and he just gave me some of the very thing that I came very close to ruining my entire life over. I’m still trying to rebuild parts of my life that I fucked up 2-3 years ago. And here I sit with it right in front of me begging myself not just go flush it. But something inside won’t let me. I need help. I don’t want to do this. Why am I not strong enough to get rid of it?! Knowing how badly I hurt everyone. I would give my life in a split second no hesitation for any person that I love so why can I not just say no to this one thing. But instead I sit here with tears rolling down my cheeks, my newborn baby boy in the next room, trying to convince myself that one time won’t hurt 😞 I’m disgusting.

I wish you would take this style of interviewing to the Kensington area of Philly. Similar population: homeless addicts with comparable histories of sex abuse. Asha is the most compelling subject of any of the channels that do this. I'd love to hang out with her. Smart, cool, fascinating, kind. But seriously: go to Philly.

The analogy of being a kid is really interesting and not one that I would have made but it makes sense. I think a lot of what gets people stuck in these situations, aside from the fact that housing is too expensive in La, is a self hatred and guilt. I bet some believe they don't deserve any better but I challenge that. They absolutely deserve love and respect and empathy and with more treatment centers and more affordable housing we could help people to get well. I know I would give money to any group that was actually providing a solution for people. The city of LA and the state of California waste 100's of millions of dollars NOT fixing the problem so I think it's time for private citizens to solve these issues.

Where there is life.. There is still HOPE. We shouldn't so quick to judge all the people on skid row, but rather pray for them to have a spiritual awakening so they can be set free from what ever they're demons are. The struggle is real.

"Have you ever thought you were TRULY suicidal or was it just for attention?" Please educate yourself on cutting and why people do it. This was a totally uncalled for and rude comment. The majority of people who cut are extremely embarrassed/ashamed of their scars.

@@nanilotti3321 He also said that he doesn't talk about it anymore because it will create problems between interviewees. I also don't think it's really our business to know how much he pays. I do know that he doesn't just pay people, but he goes way beyond that. Paying for rent, food, phones, IDs, medication and a whole lot more. He has spent around 200K of his own money so far.

How come this particular place has this serious epidemic and nothing's been done about it? Just wondering...
@powderandpaint143 жыл бұрын
In LA they decided to put all the homeless services in one place, so many people go there and of course there are drug addicts so the dealers go there too. There are so many people services can't cope.

Mark...where does the name Skid Row come from? Just curious as I come from a different part of the world.
@nanilotti33213 жыл бұрын
Skid row originated from skid road, which was a forest track over which logs were dragged to get to either water for transport or the mill. By 1915, skid road had come to be used to indicate a street or area of cheap shops and resorts, a relatively disreputable district

Why is it that heroin users all seem like creative, sensitive people but the character for meatheads is a bit different? Nust an observation
@carinafleming3 жыл бұрын
Heroin is an opiate, makes the user feel euphoria so it makes all their anxiety/thinking calm down. Meth is an upper so it’s usually people who are already up people who love a rush.
@CovertCrow3 жыл бұрын
Heroin calms anxiety in an anxious person. Meth stimulates it. It depends what kind of baseline person you are but people that are more sensitive tend to prefer opiates or downers because it calms the sensitivity while people who are less anxious or sensitive may prefer uppers because of the creative and "enhancing" effects they have.
