I've been struggling with meth addiction since 14 and most people don't make it out. I'm 2 months sober and I owe it to fishing along with my supportive wife. On days where my cravings are the worst I'll put my LakesN'Rivers wading shoes on and wade 20 miles of Iowan rivers. I remember the first time I went fishing after getting sober and I was wading a new river in a new state with my Dock Runner Ugly Stick Shakespeare combo and I caught my, at the time, personal record 22 inch channel catfish. After wading back to my wife, who was sitting in a lawn chair getting sunburned, I realized that the feeling I got in my heart the moment I hooked the fish was equal to if not greater than the feeling of using. Ace brought me to your channel but your courage to share your story is why I'm stay. Thanks man.

I was so touched by your story & where the name came from. I am a recovering Alcoholic & have been sober for almost 11 years, Aug. 30, 2007. A couple of years later I was reintroduced to fishing & fell in love with it right away. Yes, I am addicted to fishing but unfortunately I haven't fished any great lakes. Just local ponds & tiny lakes. I have to go where I can get rides. I am blessed to have a great friend that is as addicted as I am, we can easily fish 6 to 8 hour days. I would love to go on a fishing charter one day or to fish some of the fabulous lakes in Minnesota. At 56 years old, I am happy with my addiction of fishing. Thank You for telling your story & Thank You for Addicted Fishing!

Heart touching story! I love what your brand comes from and what it stands for. I heard you talk a little bit about this on a live stream on facebook. I lost my older brother to a heroin relapse back in 2012 at the age of 28. I miss him dearly and every time i hit the waters its hard to not be reminded of him. I would do anything to have one more cast with him. Ever since his passing, i have set a goal for myself to get at least 1 person to become a fishing addict each year. So far i have not failed. I made this youtube channel for the purpose of sharing the joys of fishing, and teaching people something new in fishing. It is just like you said, nothing is more rewarding then seeing the look on peoples faces when they catch a fish for the first time. Especially a biggie. Thanks for sharing Marlin!

My Father was my best friend at the end of his life. We didn't always see eye to eye growing up but when I was 23 we learned how to Fly Fish together; we began a friendship which lasted until he was killed. I struggle now 4 years later to find a group of fishing partners. I am SO glad that Marlin, you found a fabulous group of Fisher Guys and Gals!! My Dad was killed by my brother during a 1st stage Psychosis. We had no indication of my brothers mental illness until this incident and my brother has been recovering well on the appropriate medications and Doctors. Fishing is a powerful tool, it can bridge unbelievable obstacles.

Marlin I've respected you from the time I came across this channel. Now finding this video makes me respect you even more. I grew up with alcoholics in my family and drugs all around me. Luckily my dad showed me the love of fishing. Though he had his demons, fishing always kept him and I from what I think would have been a shorter life. He died at 58 of lung cancer but the day before he passed we looked at old fishing pictures even though he was no longer able to speak. I could see that fire once again in his eyes. Peace brother. You and the gang keep up the amazing journey you are taking us all on.

I was married to an addict. I was awarded full custody of my 3 kids by myself from the age of 2, 4 and 5. I lost my oldest to mental illness when he was 25. All three of my kids were and are addicted to fishing. they grew up in a house with rods in every corner and a wrapping machine on the dinning room table. Both my son and daughter are still addicted to fishing and my son is instilling that love in his own son. They both live in Texas now but the first thing they want to do when they come home is go fishing. Thank you for sharing your story! It really made me think...

I have so much respect for you guys. I know the pains of addiction all too well. Nature heals everything, and specifically fishing for some reason. My theory is that an addict is after that sudden rush of euphoria, and hooking into a fish replicates a similar feeling. It's not the same, but it's similar - so yes, fishing is a potential treatment option imo.

I have to tell y’all, I have been a fishing here out of Scappoose for 40 years and never was a fan of the addicted NW movement. But this video changed everything for me. I grew up with my parents that welcomed foster children in our home my whole life and I have many foster brothers and sisters I call my family to this day. One year ago me and my wife decided that with our financial security, we would like to start fostering. We have since had many children and even newborns from the NICU in our home and absolutely love helping the children that have been left with a short straw in life, in hopes of making a difference. Keep up the good work, and if you and your wife ever get the chance to Foster, do it!

This means a lot bro. I have always been an outdoorsman and loved Bowhunting and fishing like no other. I struggled with an alcohol addiction really bad for awhile and it took me away from what I loved to do. I’m almost 2years sober now and found your channel. It’s helped get me back on track to who and what I was and am. I’m a lot like Jordan I’m a little different and do some wild things. I love to cook and forage. Been doing it my whole life.I can’t work a traditional job anymore and am going to try and make it on KZbin and do something like you with products and such. I saved and got the camera and gear. Got an old bow from a buddy and just need to save up for some fishing equipment before fall. It will be my first time going after salmon. I’ve been fishing for steelhead and trout my whole life in Michigan where I live. But was always deer hunting in the fall and missed the salmon. Sorry I’m long winded but addicted and stay fishy have kinda breathed life back into me and shown me that someone else is doing almost the same thing as I want to do. And if you can do it with hard work why can’t I. Much love bro. Thanks for being an amazing role model and person. Hopefully I get to meet you guys someday and maybe even go fishing together..😊

I have been following this channel for a little more than thirteen months and I really like the honesty of Marlin and the whole group of (Addicts) however this video / testimony reminds me that it is not just about seeing who catches more fish or who catches the biggest but it is about love towards life itself, both personally and towards the brothers and friends with whom we spend those moments in complete communion with our God and his creation, I thank the Lord for life of Marvin and for giving him the joy of sharing this video with all of us, I don't know if he knows God but there is no doubt that the Lord has always been with him, blessing his life during his family and personal battle, I I invite all believers and non-believers to seek first the peace that only God and his creation can give us and to surround your selves with friends and family who truly love you and value you without conditions, at the same time love your selves and remember that no matter the circumstances that we are going trough our Father who is in heaven loves us even more and is always with us even in those moments that are difficult to understand. or cause us pain. A shutout to all the wives and family for allowing us to enjoy these moments in communion and brotherly love in the company of the Lord, God bless you. Blessings to all especially to the fishing club of the Christian church of the Americas to Marlin, Jordan, Cameron and to all the addicted fishing team and to all the addicts out there, God bless you all. KEEP ON FISHING. KEEP ON FISHING.

Fishing helps me with anxiety and depression. Long story short, a year ago was the best year of my life, my now 4 year old son and my 1 year old son were fishing all the time last summer... until I tragically lost my 1 year old son on August 28. 2019. Since then I've lost all motivation to do anything, left work and did nothing. felt depressed, anxiety, suffered from ptsd and im not proud to say I felt suicidal because the story of how I lost my son was tragic and I suffer from complete guilt of "why couldn't I save him". But Recently I started fishing again and it helps me with my anxiety and depression, it brings so much joy and memories of my late son and I thank addicted fishing for inspiring me to keep fishing and teaching me all I could learn about trout fishing. Im on a healing path and fishing is my number 1 therapy in my life.

Damn dude...I’m new to your channel and just happened by on a clip because it was on the Columbia. I grew up in the PNW as well to similar situations but my family was destroyed by heavy alcoholism. Watching the destruction addiction takes on everything in its path is something I don’t wish on anyone. Growing up in it you either let it consume you as well or you use it to make you stronger and more determined to succeed in life. I wish I could say that I abstained and fought the good fight but I allowed myself to slip down that path, always wondering when it was gonna be my turn to ruin everything and everyone in my life. I got lucky and made it out...it’s amazing how you can see all the pitfalls right in front of you and know where they lead but still go down the same path anyway. Take care and all the best to ya man...

I can say that fishing and hunting both kept me on the straight line through life. They give me a natural high on life. They are very addicting. Thank you for the videos. Because of a few of them I've expanded in to trying new tactics for trout and other fish with the bubble and fly and also the braided line

Awesome story. Sorry for your losses. Glad you were able to take a different path and start up something you love to do. Fishing saved my life as well. I grew up fishing with my dad. When I graduated high school I went down a path of heroin addiction for 10 years. When I got sober ( almost 5 years ago now) I started fishing again and now I can’t get enough of it. My favorite is trout fishing for brookies. Just starting to fly fish and I’m loving it. Haven’t got it completely down yet but it’s a ton of fun and I love just being out there off the beaten path on some mountain brook here in New England where I live. If I could I’d fish all day everyday. Tight lines man and keep fighting the good fight.
