Heroines of the Homeland 巾帼山河 || Lunar New Year @ UCI 🧧

Yingge dance, a traditional folk art originating in the Ming Dynasty, is a dynamic performance style from the Chaoshan region of Guangdong Province that fuses Southern martial arts with theatrical elements. Recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006, Yingge carries a rich legacy of movement and storytelling. 🎭
This original dance draws from the essence of Yingge to honor the legendary heroines of Chinese history-not only celebrating their fearless spirit on the battlefield, but also highlighting their wisdom, cultural influence, and roles as ambassadors of peace. 🕊️
英歌，起源于明代，是流行于广东潮汕地区的一种糅合南派武术、戏剧的民间艺术形式。2006年英歌入选第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录。舞蹈借用英歌元素，刻画了中国历史上的巾帼英雄形象，不仅体现在战场上的英勇无畏，还包括智慧、文化传承与和平使者的角色。 ⚔️

Yingge is actually a relatively primitive form of ritual dance, and it has traditionally been performed by men. It was only in recent decades that women performing it began to be encouraged. Moreover, traditional Yingge accompaniment consists only of rhythm without melody. This choreography truly opened my eyes! Bringing a folk art form onto the stage is no simple task. The coordination between the music and the female dancers' movements must be carefully considered, it is essential to both respect and preserve tradition while also adapting to the music to showcase the beauty of stage dance. Really impressive!

True. They only celebrate Chinese New Year. Chinese calendar is based on Lunisolar calendar, which combines both lunar and solar elements.
