This was a great video Peter! I'm sure many of us don't mind how long these videos are not only are we here to see trees and bonsai but were also here to spend time with our dear friend peter.i love the start of trees from the very beginning and one concept I always forget is the LINES! The beauty lies not only the pads and the trunk but the LINES. I think many people probably miss this concept but it opens up even more possibilities and more greatness to a tree. great video and thanks for all the knowledge.

Very interesting to look over your shoulder and to hear your thoughts about your decisions during the process of initial shaping. Just yesterday I worked on a Sylvestris straight out of my garden, more or less the same way (I hope...). And indeed, I really think you should take your time with a tree like this. Anyway, very instructive and very usefull, as far as I am concerned. One can already see what a beautiful tree this is going to be in about a few years. Thank you for sharing, mr Chan and mr Yosh!

I live in Southern Florida grow zone 10, a third of my 5 acres is two different types of pine trees probably 40 of them. I also have live oak trees and water oak with many mult trucks coming out of the main truck all together as part of the trunk, very interesting and very beautiful, anyway. My vote is for the pine to be tipped to the left, the central stem looked good up

When using the branch splitter how long will it take for the branch to heal? I assume that the wood fibers won’t reconnect. Is the branch after the operation still strong or will it break easily? Is the branch held together after healing by bark and cambium layer only? Thank you for the great content.

I just bought my first pine today. A young Black Pine. It's only about 20" tall, but will give me time to learn more about its care since pines are new for me. I have Tridents, Junipers, a Hinoki Cypress, a pair of Shimpaku, even a pair of Dawn redwoods, and several other species, but have never ventured into the realm of pines. I worry though, as I have yet to figure out proper foliage pruning for my Junipers to create pads, and now have the responsibility of developing this young pine. Time will tell......🤨
